BACKGROUND
The Monmouth County Vocational School District (MCVSD) prepares students for higher education and the evolving workplace. MCVSD administers the Academy of Law and Public Safety. ALPS provides a college preparatory program in criminal justice that serves the community by providing exemplary learning experiences in areas such as Criminal Justice, Private Security, Criminal Investigation, and Corrections. Every law course is offered at the college level. Students must enroll in 40 credits of course work per year and successfully complete 80 credits to graduate. Students can earn as many as 24 credits from Brookdale Community College and 9 credits from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

MISSION STATEMENT The Academy of Law and Public Safety, a personalized academy with a career focus, provides a rigorous theme-based curriculum in conjunction with community and higher education partnerships. Monmouth County students acquire knowledge, skills and professional ethics while utilizing the latest technology related to criminal justice.

FULL-TIME PROGRAM
The Monmouth County Vocational School District proudly launched the new full-time Academy of Law and Public Safety for students entering their junior year of high school. The Academy of Law and Public Safety is a two-year program for students that have a strong interest in law, criminal justice, and public safety with the goal of enrollment in a post secondary criminal justice program. The Law and Public Safety Academy provides a customized educational experience, aligning students’ learning needs with 21st Century Skills. The Academy of Law and Public safety exemplifies learning, community, and excellence in Monmouth County, New Jersey.

Field experiences and work-based learning provide
student experiences in various law enforcement
settings throughout the county. Forensic science is
taught through “hands-on” planned projects, which
include identifying fingerprints, hair and fiber
analysis, and handwriting analysis.
The Law Enforcement curriculum is
designed to prepare high school students
for college and for careers in the field of
criminal justice. Students are challenged
to achieve in an integrated curriculum
environment that is led by a team of
math, science, English, history, physical
education, and law enforcement teachers.
