The area is onthe Cumberland Plateau, which runs northeast to the Allegheny Mountains ofPennsylvania. In early nationhood, this was the western frontier lands of DaveyCrockett and Daniel Boone lore. The Plateau contains some of the largest stretchesof contiguous forest in the eastern United States. Big South Fork is a river andrecreation area comprised of 125,000 acres. Big South Fork has countless horseriding trails and outdoor activities and is known for having one of the highestconcentrations of natural bridges and arches in the United States.
