New local laws support safer communities
council has worked to
strike a balance between
community expectations
and the rights of individuals
while protecting the health,
safety and environment of
the regions communities.
If you want to view the local
laws you can fnd them
on councils website at
www.moretonbay.qld.
gov.au/local-laws
Moreton Bay Regional
Council now has
one set of local
laws covering the
entire region.
In most cases, the local
laws, which cover issues
such as the keeping of
animals, parking and
the management of
nuisances, will mean
business as usual for
council and residents.
Community feedback
has played a key role in
developing the six new
streamlined laws, which
replace more than 100 old
local laws and are designed
to provide certainty and
consistency for residents.
In developing the laws,
The website also provides
factsheets on issues such
as parking and keeping
animals, to set out in simple
terms what the laws mean
for most people.
If you want to know howmany animals you can
keep on your property,
council has a calculator
which can be found in
the animal ownership
section of the
website at
www.moretonbay.qld.gov.

Copies of the local laws
can be viewed at the
Caboolture, Redcliffe
and Strathpine customerservice centres. CD copies
are available for perusal at
Caboolture, Redcliffe and
Strathpine libraries.

Division 1
Duke Street, Meldale Road, Bullock
Creek Road and Way Street, at
Meldale, are being upgraded. The work
involves reconstructing road surfaces,
clearing drains and the construction of
a cul-de-sac on the southern end of
Way Street.
Division 2
Bellay Road, at Beachmere, which was
heavily affected by Januarys oods, is
being upgraded. Works include clearing
drains, reconstructing the road and
sealing existing driveway entrances
where necessary.
Division3The arboretum in Norfolk Esplanade,
at Caboolture South, is receiving
additional pathway lighting. The new
LED lighting will match facilities installed
earlier this year and will allow locals to
enjoy more parts of the park when the
sun goes down.
Division 4
A new concrete footpath on the
southern side of Alexandra Court, at
Deception Bay, will provide improved
pedestrian access from Deception Bay
High School to Moreton Downs Drive.
Division 5
Access to the Redcliffe foreshore
will be improved by a new concrete
footpath being built on the northern
side of Baldwin Street at Redcliffe. It
will run from the existing footpath to the
intersection of Prince Edward Parade.
Division 6
The area around the Redcliffe Jetty is
being dredged to improve access and
safety for local tour boat operators and
private vessels. The work is expected
to be completed by early October.
Division 7
A new concrete footpath in Voltaire
Crescent at Petrie is part of an ongoing
plan to continue to link footpaths in the
area and encourage residents to get
out and about.
Division8The construction of a new footpath
in Tosca Street at Cashmere will link
the street with One Mile Park, while a
new footpath on the northern side of
Jeff Jones Court at Bray Park will
improve pedestrian access to Bray Park
State School.
Division9Jacaranda Park, off old Northern Road
and Wruck Crescent, at Albany Creek,
now has new playground equipment
that includes a climbing frame and
slide, swings, spring toy and a spinner.
Division 10
The playground at Lionel Burton Park
at Bennetts Road in Everton Hills has
a new slippery slide, rubber underlay
and landscaping. A new playground
net climber is being added to George
Willmore Park at Ferny Hills.
Division 11
Work is well under way on emergency
repairs to Mt Nebo Road (near Jollys
Lookout) at Mount Nebo, after a rock
fall earlier this year reduced the roadto one lane. Crews are working to
remove fallen rock and anchor the rock
embankment.
Division 12Alcock Road at Elimbah from Field
Road to 57 Alcock Road is being
upgraded to improve safety. The
project, expected to take about 10
weeks, involves reconstructing the road
surface, clearing drains and the sealing
of existing driveways where necessary.
Below is a snapshot ofconstruction works either underway or recently completed inMoreton Bay region.
Where applicable, council will have
trafc management measures in place
to ensure the safety of pedestrians and
motorists during construction projects.
Your patience is appreciated while the
works are carried out.

QSEC sets galloping pace
The $17.285 million
council-built centre, which
received Australian and
Queensland government
funding assistance, will
provide an exciting new
venue for international,
national, state and elite
championships, while also
meeting local and regional
equestrian and sporting
club needs.
The recently-opened
centres site covers
more than 30 hectares
between the Caboolture
Showgrounds and the
Caboolture Historical
Village.
QSECs facilities include
one of Australias largest
covered sand arenas,
state-of-the-art audio-visual
capabilities, spectator
seating, all-weather sand
and grass arenas, warm up
areas, 150 stables, eight
wash bays, 48 campsites
with power and water
access, additional informal
camp sites, meeting and
training rooms, and a
licensed bar.
The rst major equestrian
event, the Nathan Horse
Floats 2011Queensland
Dressage Championships,
will be held from 7 to 9
October, and the centres
management has already
received bookings from
equestrian groups and the
wider community through
to 2015.
As well as major events,
the centre will host master
classes with elite equestrian
competitors, school tours
and learn-to-ride programs.
See www.qsec.com.au for
more details.
Two major foreshore
parks at Scarboroughwill be getting facelifts
with work expected to
begin in September.
The projects, in Endeavour
Park and Scarborough
Beach Park, are in keeping
with each sites master
plan and will deliver some
important new facilities in
time for Christmas.
At Scarborough Beach Park
council has just completed
Improving Scarboroughs foreshore
an upgrade of the car park.
Improvements at the northernend of this much-loved park
will include new picnic shelters,
landscaping with additional
shade trees, an improved
cycleway and new playground
equipment. Scarboroughs
iconic pines will remain a
prominent feature of the
landscape.
The $300,000 rst stage of the
Endeavour Park project will
comprise new shelters, tables,
seating, a drinking fountain,
barbecue, playgroundpathways and associated
landscaping. Large
expanses of open space
will also be retained, along
with the spectacular views
of Deception Bay and the
Glass House Mountains.
By enhancing facilities in
both parks, council aims
to ensure they remaincherished community areas
for years to come.
Recycling easier
at Bunya
Recycling has become even
easier at the Bunya landll
site now that it has its own
resource recovery area.
Residents using the waste
management facility are
now directed to an area
where they can dispose of
their waste into designated
sections, depending on what
they are carrying.
It means a greater percentage
of recyclable material such as
cardboard, garden waste and
timber can be recovered, and
less waste goes into landll.
Similar resource recoveryareas can be found at
Caboolture and Dakabin
waste management facilities.
Cabooltures world-class Queensland State Equestrian Centre (QSEC) is gearing up for an action
packed year, with its rst major equestrian event locked in for early October.

Road works improve Murrumba Downs commute
Council has transformed
Dohles Rocks Road into a
four-lane arterial-standard
road between McClintock
Drive and Elm Drive.
The improvement means
the road, which had been
struggling to carry 15,000
cars a day, can now easilyhandle 25,000 cars and is
safer for both pedestrians
and vehicles.
The Dohles Rocks
Road project has also
involved installing new
telecommunications
cables and gas
mains, sewer mains,
drainage, lighting, trafc
signals, pathways and
landscaping.
Work has also been
completed on McClintock
Drive so that it connects
Dohles Rocks Road with
Goodfellows Road.
The missing link section,
which allows McClintock
Drive to feed into Goodfellows
Road, was initially built so it
could be used as a detour
while the Dohles Rocks Road
works progressed.
The detour has now been
improved to a nished road
standard complete with
pavement, drains, concrete
footpaths, a pedestrian
refuge, sound barrier fencing,
lighting and landscaping. The
work also involved adding
concrete footpaths leading to
Undurba State School.
The $9.7 million road works
have taken just over 18
months to complete.
Soccer scores at Samford
An old house will
gain a new life as
the headquarters for
the Samford Rangers
Football Club asa part of councils
plans for Samford
Parklands.
Cash House, an old
Queenslander that was
already onsite, will be
relocated and given a
makeover that will reopen
its closed-in verandas andprovide facilities including
toilets, a kitchen area and
meeting room.
Meanwhile, work is
continuing on creating
senior and junior sized
playing fields and practice
areas on the eastern side
of Mt Samson Road ofSamford Parklands.
The project will deliver
soccer fields for district-
level competition and
is part of the ongoing
transformation of the
parklands into a multi-
sport and recreation
area for Samfordand its neighbouring
communities.
Major upgrades to Dohles Rocks Road and McClintock Drive are now making travel through
Murrumba Downs easier and safer.
