This year’s Auction could not have been accomplished without the dedicated efforts demonstrated by our Auction volunteers.

To our dear friends who have continued to step up year after year to help out on the Auction and to the new friends we have met in this journey, we “Thank You” from the bottom of our “Yellow Submarine.” Each of you have made this journey across “Abbey Road” a “Good Day Sunshine.”

At times it may have seemed “Like a Hard Days Night,” but in the end we are proud to be a part of such an important event that raises funds to support LFCDS’s mission to provide excellence in education.

We hope you enjoy this “Magical Mystery Tour” of an evening as we “Come Together” in support Lake Forest Country Day School and our children.

“All Our Loving,” Julie and Patrice

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Lake Forest Country Day School Annual Auction, All You Need Is Love. The Auction has been a landmark event each spring at LFCDS since 1983. Tonight we will be celebrating our 29th Auction as we honor this year’s co-chairs, Julie Slobodnik and Patrice Wetzel, and their team of hardworking volunteers. This year, Julie and Patrice will introduce electronic bidding to our community. A technological step forward that will allow everyone to relax and do their bidding from their dinner table or anywhere they would like in the room. I’m sure this new approach will bring an exciting conclusion to the close of the Silent tables.

When the bidding is over we hope that you will stay and enjoy the entertainment that the Co-Chairs have arranged for us. Although the focus of the evening is fundraising, this special event is also a celebration of our community. Parents, Faculty, Staff, Alumni and Donors all come together each year to enjoy the spirit of the event and the fruits of their labor. It is an extraordinary evening.

So I hope you will all be there to enjoy the good food, great wine, wonderful friends and good times for the benefit of your children, the students of Lake Forest Country Day School.

Sincerely,

Michael E. RobinsonHead of School

124 Broomball Party at Hot Shot Ice ArenaImagine ninety minutes of fun energizing activity! This broomball party includes full ice and equipment (brooms, balls, and nets) at the rink. Broomball is a game very similar to hockey in its formation and rules, but also incorporates some soccer strategies. The game is played on a hockey rink with two teams consisting of six players on each side (a goalie, two defensemen, and three forwards). Similar to hockey and soccer, the object of the game is to score more goals than the opposing team. A player uses a stick (a shaft with a molded broom-shaped head) to maneuver a six-inch diameter ball up and down the ice. What a great party for kids or adults.

Subject to availability of ice, two- to four-week notice required.

605 2008 Oregon: “The Best of the Best”These are NOT available–Exclusive Wines! Six Boutique Labels from an Outstanding Vintage!

There’s no doubt that 2008 is one of the best vintages to date ever produced in Oregon. Critics have been gushing with praise, and the proof is in the bottle. These Pinots are first characterized by beautiful fragrance: perfumes of spicy black and red fruits that soar from the glass. Next, are the mouthwatering flavors that result from copious amounts of densely packed, yet impeccably balanced fruit. All in all, the wines are stunning examples of elegance and finesse. Although thoroughly enjoyable now, these will all benefit from time in the bottle. This collection of labels represents artisan winemaking at its best. As in Burgundy, the best bottles are a result of site-carefully tended vineyards that over time have proven to yield small amounts of the finest raw material. Add the knowledge of cutting edge winemaking technique by masters of the craft, and you end up with “The Best of the Best”.

2003 The Matriarch—The 2003 Matriarch is a ripe, spicy, supple-textured effort offering beautiful plum, anise, black currant, tobacco, and toasty oak notes. Full-bodied, lush, and concentrated, it should drink well for 10–15 years. Robert M. Parker, Jr.’s, The Wine Advocate: 90 points (December 2006)

2005 Harlan Estate—“The 2005 exhibits a gorgeous thick-looking, ruby/purple color in addition to a beautiful nose of burning embers interwoven with crème de cassis, roasted meats, sweet black truffles, and spring flowers. A hint of lead pencil shavings also emerges from this cuvée, which seems to want to be both a Pauillac and a ripe vintage of La Mission Haut-Brion. Full-bodied, dense, pure, and revealing sweeter tannin than I remember, it can be drunk now, but it will no doubt display even greater complexity in 10, 20, and 30 years.” Robert Parker, Wine Spectator: 96 points (December 2008)

2005 The Maiden—Harlan’s second wine, The Maiden, is marvelous in 2005. Ripe, opulent fruit and notes of unsmoked high

613 Hundred Acre Vineyard 2007 Shiraz Summer’s Block Ancient WayThe wine is unmistakably Hundred Acre, easily mistaken for a powerful Napa Cabernet but delighting with the uniquely succulent dark fruit exclusively available from the finest Aussie Shiraz! Powerful, elegant, complex, packed with concentrated black fruit including succulent plums and figs with layer upon layer of subtle spice, mocha and captivating nuances that linger on the palate for a full :60 finish. This wine bears more resemblance to its sister wine than it does to any other Shiraz made before. With the Kayli-Morgan Cab and the Ancient Way Shiraz side-by-side, the stylistic similarities are striking, one with nuances of Napa Cab, the other of Barossa Shiraz…this rare gem is a thriller now and should evolve into a 98+ point Classic with a couple of years of bottle age, peaking around 2015 in our estimate.

The Trifecta approach is slightly different from most—rather than spending energy on trying to make each year’s wine similar to what may be expected from a previous vintage, we prefer to concentrate all of our efforts on what we refer to as “unique vintage excellence”. We pay close

attention on what Mother Nature blesses us with at each harvest, and focus on making the best cabernet possible by blending the best selections from the most relevant micro-climates The color is intense, ruby red with dark highlights on the outer rim. On the palate hints of smoke and sweet tar appear mixed with some black pepper, spice, black cherry, fig and a hint of plums. As it continues to develop on the mid palate blueberries and blackberries become evident, along with hints of sweet vanilla and honey. On the back the tannins are delicate but evident, providing a gorgeous backbone and balance, velvety smooth, with an extremely long, elegant finish.

619 Château Margaux 1996 Premier Grand Cru ClasseThe 1996 Château Margaux, which was bottled in September 1998, is undoubtedly one of the great classics produced under the Mentzelopoulos regime. In many respects, it is the quintessential Château Margaux, as well as the paradigm for this estate, combining measured power, extraordinary elegance, and admirable complexity. I tasted the wine on three separate occasions in January, and in short, it’s a beauty! The color is opaque purple.

The wine offers extraordinarily pure notes of blackberries, cassis, pain grille, and flowers, gorgeous sweetness, a seamless personality, and full body, with nothing out of place. The final blend (85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, and the rest Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc) contains a high percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon.

651 Mollydooker 2009 Velvet Glove Shiraz“What makes the 2009 Velvet Glove Shiraz near perfect is the amazingly rich, velvety texture that has a finish that goes in your mouth for over 30 seconds. I have tasted all vintages of the Velvet Glove and this could be the very best every made.”—Cork’d, Brian Pasch: 99 ratingRobert Parker: 96 points

Marianne and Jeff Silver

652 Château Longueville Pauillac-Medoc au Baron de Pichon-Longueville 1990“...an extraordinary bouquet of charcoal, incense, creme de cassis, blue and black fruits, and a hint of licorice as well as an impressively long finish...”—Robert M. Parker Jr.: 96 points

Pritikin, Nadler and Mirabelli

653 2005 Smith Haut Lafitte - Double Magnum“The inky/blue/purple-tinged 2005’s extraordinary nose reeks of charcoal, incense, scorched earth, abundant blackberry, blueberry, and cherry fruit, toast, and spice. Good acidity, huge but sweet tannin, and fabulous precision as well as definition characterize this full-bodied, super-concentrated effort. It should prove to beamong the longest-lived wines yet made by the Cathiards.”—The Wine AdvocateRobert Parker: 95 points

Binny’s Beverage Depot

654 Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars 2005 Artemis Cabernet SauvignonAs you savor this elegant blend, scores of different flavor notes emerge from the harmonious whole, like interweaving musical lines. In the nose, you’ll notice black cherries, red plums, and spicy notes of truffle, tea, and spice. Taste and more flavors emerge: raspberry, red currant, orange peel, a bit of cocoa powder and ginger. Fine-grained tannins and balanced acidity contribute to the rich mouth feel and carry through the perfumed cherry-vanilla finish.

Gail and Terry Boudreaux

655 Dom Pérignon 2000 Vintage“This is a classic Dom Pérignon vintage. It’s big and fruity initially, a mouthful of ripeness. Then the texture and structure of this dense wine come through. It’s as much wine as Champagne, rich with apple and fresh pear flavors vying with yeasty and a tense crispness.” —Wine Enthusiast: 95 points

Tamara and Brian Gamache

656 Léoville Barton 1995 - Magnum“A beautiful wine, with layers of ripe fruit, berry, cedar, vanilla and light spice. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a long finish. Very, very classy stuff.”—Wine Spectator: 94 points

657 Terlato Family Vineyards Angels’ Peak 2006 - Double MagnumThe 2006 Angels’ Peak has a deep garnet color with aromas of black fruit, tobacco and mocha. Smooth, rich and full bodied with soft, round flavors, plumy fruit and soft tannins with a lush mouth-feel.

The Terlato Family

658 Joseph Phelps 2004 CabernetThe 2004 Cabernet boasts ultra concentration and lusciousness. The wine is a striking example of the vintage with aromas of soy, graphite and hints of baking spices, as well as generous amounts of Bing cherry, cassis, and other dark fruits in the fragrant nose. Sweet oak, spice and compelling grapy extract lead to a long, persistent finish.

Gail and Terry Boudreaux

659 Caymus 2008 Special Select“The 2008 Special Select Cabernet Sauvignon Special Selection is the first example of this cuvée to include Merlot (about 14%) in the blend. The Merlot component has given the wine a cocoa/chocolate nuance to its black currant, licorice-infused fruit. The tannins are velvety soft and the wine is beautifully textured and full-bodied. It is ideal for drinking now and over the next 15 years.”—Wine Spectator: 94 points

Marianne and Jeff Silver

660 Joseph Phelps 2001 Insignia - MagnumWith complex aromas of black cherry, plum, chocolate, currant and toasty oak, the wine displays layers of flavor and richness that disguise its power and longevity. “A triumph. Aged nearly two years in all-new French oak, this massive wine stuns with its superb balance. Manages the elusive challenge of reining in hugely ripe black currant, cherry and oak flavors and sweet tannins while keeping the palate impression soft and alluring, almost feminine. Just gorgeous right out of the bottle, but should develop effortlessly through the decade and beyond.”—Wine Enthusiast: 96 points

Julie and Mark Slobodnik

661 2006 El Nido (Jumilla Spain)“The 2006 El Nido is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Monastrell aged for 26 months in new oak. Aromas of wild blueberry and black currant are room-filling. Dense, layered, and totally hedonistic, it has serious depth and concentration, impeccable balance, and a 60-second finish.”—Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate: 97 points

662 The MacPhail’s Collection Limited Bottle - 30 Year Old Single Malt ScotchIt is full-bodied, finely balanced, complex, and graceful, and mellows with age. Nose: Date, dried fruits, walnut/chestnut. Tasting Notes: There’s a rich, generous spirit as well as burnt orange, rooty, honey.Palate: Smoke under the rounded nutty dried figgy notes; Honey and soft malt.Finish: Slightly tannic.Comment: An old bugger, but the character still shines through the sherry.

Heather and Bill White

663 St. Jakobi 1998 Shiraz Barossa Valley, Product of Australia“Rich, generous, smooth on the tongue and powerful through the finish, it’s a full-throttled Barossan red. But it doesn’t seem tricked up at all – it seems authentic. It tastes of port-like blackberry, chocolate, fresh cedarwood and toast. It’s powerful, warm and polished; at its best in the middle of winter. It would warm you up in a very pleasurable way. 94 points”—Campbell Mattinson/Gary Walsh (The Big Red Wine Book)

Debbie and Tom Hodgkins

664 Silver Oak 2005 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon“Good deep red, ruby color with musky aromas of cassis, licorice, game, tobacco leaf and brown spices. Velvety sweet and deep on the palate the wine has a silky feel and an elegant long finish.” —Parker Rating: 93 points

Karen and Scott Wolff

665 Far Niente 2007 Estate Bottled Cabernet Sauvignon“The finest Cabernet Sauvignon from Far Niente I have ever tasted may be the 2007 Estate. Its dense purple color is accompanied by fragrant aromatics of crème de cassis, spice box, under brush and forest floor. Voluptuously textured and full-bodied superb purity and depth. A layered, complete finish.”—Robert Parker: 93 points

Karen and Scott Wolff

666 Robert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon 2006 Reserve Napa Valley“The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve offers a beautiful perfume of violets, black currants, subtle oak and spice characteristics. This full-bodied, creamy textured Cabernet possesses superb concentration levely purity and a multilayered mouthfeel.” —Robert Parker: 94 pointsTanzer IWC rating: 93 points

668 Château St. Jean Cinq Cepages Vertical (1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002)Château St. Jean Cinq Cepages Vertical with a book of tasting notes and DVD by its winemaker. Wine Spectator, Wine of the Year, perennial Top 100 wine and Parker 90+ pointer. Enjoy the opportunity to taste the progression of this coveted Sonoma Bordeaux-style blend and compare your palate’s experience with that of winemaker Margo Von Staaveren.

Susan and Kenny Bozorgi

669 Dominus 2006 Estate Bottled Cabernet“There are 6,500 cases of the superb 2006 Dominus (91% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot). Its dark plum/purple color is accompanied by aromas and flavors of truffles, forest floor, black cherries, black currants, and Asian spices. One of the finest wines of the vintage, it is complete, full-bodied, and seamlessly built with beautiful ripe tannins, low acidity, and a luscious, layered mouthfeel. The aromatics are even more evolved and complex than the 2005’s. The 2006 should drink well for 20-25 years. “ —The Wine Advocate: 96 Points

671 A Trio of Tequilas!Semental Reposado—(translation: laid down or rested) – Golden color, creamy and spicy aromas of sandalwood, vanilla bean, dates, dried pineapple and black pepper. A silky and supple entry leads to a dry, yet fruity mouth feel. It is delicious and very flavorful.Cuervo Añejo Tequila Reserva de la Familia—This tequila is a Gran Reserva, aged beyond what is required for Añejo Tequila. The Family keeps the best of its tequila, aging it in a private cellar in New American Oak and French Oak Barrels until it has reached the highest level of excellence. It is truly one of the very best.Don Julio 1942—In 1942 Don Julio Gonzales founded his distillery in Los Altos de Jalisco from the cultivation of the agave to the bottling of the final product; he refined an intricate process that produces one of Mexico’s most exquisite Tequilas. This Tequila coats the palate with roasted agave and vanilla flavors, sun ripened tropical fruits and spiced under tones to create a wonderfully unique Tequila experience.

Karla and Rob Johnson

672 Migration 2008 Pinot Noir - One CaseThe nose displays bright cherry, strawberry compote, violet and rhubarb layers, alongside more exotic elements of Asian spice, hickory, earth and roasted meats. These aromatics are echoed on the palate, and further supported by juicy acidity and notes of strawberry, plum, toffee, pie crust and a hint of white pepper.
