The Library Encourages Students to Date…Books
For the month of February, favorite books such as Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Ripley’s Believe it or Not have been jailed. The crime? Stealing the joy of reading a variety of books from our students. To encourage students to try something new, we are offering blind dates with books.
Students read a brief description on the covered book and choose a date.
Upon completion, they rate their date to help others determine if they might enjoy an outing with the same book.
We strongly believe there are unknown books students will fall in love with if given a chance! Coming Up
Scholastic Book Fair is coming February 25-March 1.
Be on the lookout for the flyer and information about using eWallet as an alternate form of payment.
Happy Reading! Mrs. Alsobrook

Science & Social Studies Mrs. Schier & Mrs. Wall
We completed our study of Microworlds this week. Students did a great
job developing their observational skills. We are now switching to Social
Studies and are studying Chapter 10, Forming a New Government. Students
are learning how the U.S. Constitution was written and adopted, how political
parties were created, and examining the westward expansion of our country. A
study guide is in this folder for a test on Thursday, February 28.
D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) sessions continued this week.
Officer Elliott from the Auburn Police Department conducts these sessions for our
fifth-grade students. It is a wonderful opportunity provided by the City of Auburn!
Math
Mrs. Paris & Mr. Wynn
Ch. 7 (Multiplying Fractions) is well under way. Students have learned many ways to
understand, draw, and solve problems involving fraction multiplication. We plan to work
through the rest of the chapter next week before reviewing & testing during the week of
March 4-8. If classes remain on schedule, the test should be on March 6th. Each lesson is
also reviewable on Youtube. Search mathwingo with the lesson number (Ex. 7.5) and watch
with your child. We will also continue to quiz previously taught material in the coming weeks
to check for retention. As always, we thank you for your assistance and support!
