The Grapevine October 2019 All are Welcome Dear Clarkesville First Family, Sunday, October 27, 2019, is our congregation's "Giving Sunday". I urge you to plan now to attend these two important events: Sunday morning worship (8:30, 9:00 or 11:00) and the Celebration Luncheon at 12:15 in the Fellowship Hall. The church will provide the chicken and drinks and everyone is encouraged to bring a covered dish. This spiritual-growth-oriented process is designed to enrich our biblical understanding of Christian Stewardship. Rather than focusing on the need of the church to receive, the experience concentrates on the need of the giver to give for his or her own spiritual development. We believe that you are concerned enough to attend on Giving Sunday and make your financial commitment as an act of worship in the church sanctuary. Jesus summed up the spiritual connection between God and money this way. "Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also(Luke 12:34). Financial stewardship is treasure man- agement that helps us to escape the trap of selfishness by keeping ourselves spiritually focused on God. John Wesley said If people were more alive to God, they would be more generous. Each of us makes one of two choices in life. We either become emotionally attached to our money, or we become emotionally attached to the God who gives us the money. Although we often hope to do both, in our hearts we know that cannot happen. Financial stewardship helps us to over- come the temptation to break the First Commandment and put the false idol of money first, ahead of the God who revealed His love for us through Jesus Christ. Our annual stewardship campaign is not a fundraising event. It helps each of us to grow spiritually in our relationship with God through faithful management of all that God gives us. The theme for this year's stewardship campaign is "Give Faith a Fighting Chance, I Hope You Dance”. The sermons will be based on Ecclesiastes 3:4, A Time to Dance”: October 13 – FAITH IN FAMILY – Mark 3:31-35 October 20 – FAITH IN FINANCE – Mark 12:41-44 October 27 – FAITH IN FUTURE – Matthew 6:25- 34 Blessings, Jeff Spivey Keith Cox Finance Chair Senior Pastor

There’s something wonderfully compelling about Celtic music. Whether it’s the lively rhythms or the stylistic ornamentation, this music has a unique and joyous sound! What better way to tell the joyful story of Christmas! Even though it originates in a different part of the world, there is something about the earthiness of the Celtic style that seems right at home in the cobblestone streets of Bethlehem. Have You Heard by Joel Raney is a cantata for SATB choir that revisits the Christmas story using this Celtic style. There are familiar Christmas carols, but also some familiar Christmas texts set to beloved Irish and Welsh folk songs. These, combined with original music and scripture-based narration, complete a surprisingly refreshing re-telling of the Christmas story. Join us at either the 8:30 or 11:00 worship

services on December 8th for the presentation of this wonderful cantata. A meal celebrating the chancel choir will follow the 11:00 service in the

Fellowship Hall.

October is a busy month at preschool. The Clarkesville Fire Department will visit and teach about fire safety and show us the big fire truck. We will learn about fall and the change of the seasons. In the Bible, we will learn that made a way for His people to escape slavery and He gave them ten rules that showed them how to live, how to be close to Him and how to be happy. When they reached the city of Jericho, they trusted and obeyed God and the walls came down. David teaches us that we can do anything with God.

YOUTH & CHILDREN

In His Service,

Susan Weidner, Director, CFUMC Preschool “Rooted in faith, growing in love"

"We are kicking off the fall season with fun! Our kid's ministry is back into our normal Wednesday night routine with our "World Changers" program every Wednesday night at 6:30pm in the Children's Wing. In September, the Clarkesville Kid's children's ministry was able to go on a field trip to the zoo! 13 kids and 6 adults traveled to the North GA Zoo, and we had a blast seeing some of the unique animals God created! On October 16th, we are having a parenting workshop called, "Healthy Boundaries in a Screen Driven World." Children’s ministry expert, Julie Young, will lead this workshop on helping parents navigate the tough conversation of screen time. Julie has spent over 37 years in Children's Minis-try. She is the co-founder of Family Adventures, a non-profit, family focused, Christian ministry. She is currently the Preschool Director at Neighborhood Alliance Church in Longwood, Florida. All parents and grandparents are welcome to join us for this workshop!" Courtney Young, Children’s Director

Second Story Youth is in full swing!

We are enjoying Discipleship classes,

Sunday youth worship, and our prayer

breakfasts! Thank you, church family,

for all the prayers and resources you

send to help us do the Lord's work in

and for our youth and build His

kingdom here in Clarkesville.

Bailey Tam, Youth Director

OLDER ADULT MINISTRIES

"Our Contemporary Worship Service, also known as the Connection Service, is growing at a steady rate. We are averaging 70+ adults and children each Sunday with new visitors each week! I want to personally invite you to come join or visit the Connection Service and experience what God is doing within our congregation. The Connection Service starts at 9AM in the Connection Building, which is in the previous bank building located to the left of Walgreen's. Tune in to the songs we sing on Sunday on our Spotify playlist, "CFUMC Connection Setlist." You can stream the music online that we will be singing each month. Come worship in song, the reading of the God's Word, and in fellowship with the CFUMC Contemporary Service!"
