All About the Primary Stage - March 2019

What's inside?

Dear AA community, we are delighted to share with you some of our highlights during the past

two months. We have enjoyed fun celebrations, showcased presentation and communication skills,

welcomed opportunities to work on new challenges, embraced active learning engagements,

implemented different strategies and acknowledged our achievements. Learners successfully

embodied the IB Learner Profile attributes and PYP attitudes inside and outside the classroom.

Enjoy looking through our journey!

Crazy Hair Day

Our learners were given a fun chance to show their creative side by getting imaginative and amusing

their classmates with a crazy hair style.

Drama Week - Grade 3

Each learner chose a family member to join them in a wonderful acting activity. Parents and students

indulged in two hours of dramatic fun as they performed to the audience.

Musical Workshop - Grade 4

Our students and parents were invited to an interactive musical workshop where they explored

different musical notes and built new skills. Afterwards, they used the notes they had been practicing

for to create a musical piece that was exhibited at the end of the workshop.

Student-Led Conference

The student-led conferences allowed the learners to take responsibility of their own learning by

leading the conference and demonstrating their understanding of certain concepts. Our learners

discussed and reflected upon samples of work through their 4th unit of inquiry that they have

previously chosen to share with their parents. This gave parents a clear insight into the kind of work

their child is doing and offered a great opportunity for them to discuss it with their child.

Battle of the Books

The Battle of the Books reading competition was held over winter break, where students competed

over who could read as many books as possible. We are so proud of all students who participated!

Our winners went on to read stories to KG Students.

• Most read: Hassan Qaryab, Nahed Hommami, Naya Al Husseini, Amira Shahatit, Ra'ad

Baddad, Salma Baddad, Celine Abu Obeid and Yasmin Abu Rous.

• Raffle Winners: Naya ElFanek, Tamara Wishah, Salma Abu Sharkh, Salma Makahleh and

Omar Qudah.

Alchemist Lab - Grade 3

Our 3rd grade learners attended an interactive workshop organized by the Alchemist Lab under the

topic of Adaptation to help support their unit of inquiry.

Grandparents' Visit - Grades 1 & 2

Grade One

Learners from grade one invited some of their grandparents to help them find out more about the

second line of inquiry,"How the development of inventions shape the present." They explored

different artifacts from the past and investigated the concept of ‘change’ under the theme, 'Where

we are in place and time.'

Grade Two

As part of their unit of inquiry under the theme, “Who we are”, learners invited some grandparents

to explore the third line of inquiry, "The history of our parents’ and grandparents’ childhood

memories." Our grade two learners enjoyed listening to their stories as they made authentic

connections to the theme and the central idea.

Show and Tell

Show and Tell is an activity which allows children to express themselves confidently and build their

communication skills. Our grade 1-5 learners got the chance to present to their classmates and

teachers about different topics.

Morning Assemblies

Our morning assemblies encourage learners to exhibit their presentation and communication skills by

sharing new ideas and information on a weekly basis. They also include guest speakers,

presentations and fitness.

categories : under 8, 10 and 12 years. Swimmers, families and coaches from different schools enjoyed

the competition. We are very proud of our swimmers who did an excellent job and achieved amazing

Teams are practicing for upcoming events. We are looking forward to seeing their talent on the mat!

Best of luck to them!

Challenging, Relevant, Engaging and Significant (CRES) learning

engagements through the inquiry cycle

Guided by the inquiry cycle, our little inquirers engaged in diverse learning activities that stimulated

their brains and activated their PYP attitudes, IB learner profile attributes and transdisciplinary skills.

Our learners exhibited their exceptional ability to reach conclusions and take action.

1 - Tuning in: Grade 3 learners inquired into technology and inventions. They completed a mind map using the chalk-talk

strategy to discuss the pros and cons of the internet.

2 - Finding out: Our grade 4 learners used manipulatives to further understand equivalent fractions.

3 - Sorting out: Learners used blocks and dienes blocks to create multiples of 10.

4 - Going Further: In order to further understand the differences between similar and congruent shapes, our grade 5 learners visited the virtual reality lab and observed the shapes in 3D.

5 - Making connections to real-life applications by counting money.

6 - Our creative learners from grade 3K read up to 200 stories in Arabic for their classroom competition. We appreciate their efforts in instilling a love for reading in Arabic!

7 - Making conclusions: Learners visited the science lab where they conducted an experiment on physical and chemical changes in connection to their second line of inquiry.

8 - Taking Action: One of our second grade learners took action by integrating his show and tell presentation with the current unit of inquiry

Toyota Dream Car Art Contest

Learners in Amman Academy were given the opportunity to participate in 'Toyota Dream Car Art

Contest'. We are so proud to announce that two AA students won this global competition, one of

which is in the Primary stage!

The learners were asked to hand draw an artwork, which shows their dream car. They were allowed

to use any standard drawing medium they liked as long as they don't use digital tools to create their

artwork.

In the age group 8-11: Selina Al Omar from grade 5K won third place and her drawing was sent to

Japan. We are very proud of her!

Mother's Day Celebrations

Grades 1 and 2:

What better gift to give than the gift of knowledge? We were delighted to invite the parents for an

interactive workshop entitled “Learning through Play”. This workshop was facilitated by “Edu-Notion”

and aimed to provide parents with skillful ways to engage their children in fun experiences at home

to further develop their skills. Our grades 1 & 2 students joined their parents for a fun art activity

following the workshop.

Grades 3, 4 and 5:

This year we planned to celebrate Mother’s Day in a special way! The parents spent a fun, exciting

and challenging time with their children playing bingo and engaging in other creative activities and

challenges.

World Down Syndrome Day

In an effort to spread awareness regarding Down Syndrome, Seeds of Hope Center has created a

campaign, which aimed at inviting members of our community to wear odd socks as a message to

celebrate our differences. Primary stage teachers took initiative and participated in this campaign, in

order to make a positive change in their community.

The End!
