SNAP 2012 AnalysisNow we will have a look at the detailed section wise analysis

    of SNAP 2012.

Quantitative & Data InterpretationThis was the easiest section in the entire exam. However,

there were some Data Interpretation sets, which were tricky

in nature. The topics in this section from which the questions

    arrived were as follows:

    F Data Analysis

    F Geometry

    F Variance

    F Logs

    F Time and Distance

    F Percentage

Analytical & Logical ReasoningThe total number of questions in the Analytical & Logical

Reasoning section was 30. Each question had 2 marks which

made the total number of questions 60. This was the toughest

section in the SNAP 2012 paper. The topics of the section

from which the questions were asked are as follows:

    F Coding-Decoding

    F Letter-Series

    F Venn diagram

    F Cubes

    F Facts Inference Judgment (FIJ)

    F Blood Relations

    F Double Line Distribution

    F Odd Man Out

    F Verbal Analogy

General EnglishThe number of questions in this section was 40 and the

marks for this question was 40, i.e. 1 mark for each question.

The section was a mix of Verbal Abilities and Reading Com-

prehension. There was 1 Reading Comprehension passage.

The passage was simple to comprehend and the questions

     were direct and easy too.

The Verbal Ability or the English Usage questions were onthe following topics:

F Vocabulary – Synonyms, Antonyms, Substitute, Sentence Equiv-

    alence

F English Grammar – Active & Passive Voice, Parts of Speech,

    Punctuation

    General Awareness

The General Awareness section had 40 questions and had

1 mark for each question. The difficulty level of the section

was easy. The questions were mostly on current affairs. Static

GK questions were also there. The Current Affairs questions

were on sports, advertisements and brands, personalities,

business, politics etc. The static GK questions were on

India’s Constitution, History, Geography, Economics etc.

Preparation TipsIf you have prepared for CAT 2014, IIFT 2014 and XAT

2014 exams, then taking SNAP will not be of much difficulty.

As you can see, the sections and the topics of questions or the

SNAP 2014 syllabus are similar to the other MBA entrance

exams. The General Awareness section is common for IIFT

and XAT as well so a common preparation will suffice.

Taking mock tests regularly, say twice a week will provide

you enough practice. While taking the tests, make sure that

they are time bound. Choose your questions carefully so that

they are not much time consuming and ensure accuracy of

    the questions you are attempting.

The overall difficulty level of the exam is much easier com-

pared to the exams like CAT, XAT and IIFT hence you need

not worry about getting very tough questions to solve. Still it

is better to be prepared for the toughest than be overconfi-

    dent about your preparation.

tion wise difficulty level, topical distribution and the ideal

number of attempts and time allocation.

Here is what Kudva has to say about SNAP 2013.

SNAP 2013 was characterized by a simple Quantitative

Ability section, moderate level Analytical and Logical Rea-

soning and General English sections and a tough GK section.

Quantitative Ability (Suggested time allocation30-35 minutes)Like SNAP 2013, most questions in Quantitative Ability

section were fairly easy. The section was dominated by Arith-

metic, particularly Work Pipes and Cisterns, Time Speed

Distance, Percentages, Averages and Ratios. Additionally

there were also questions on Geometry, and Modern Math,

    Level of difficulty

    Topic Easy Medium Difficult Total

    Work, Pipes & Cisterns 5 0 1 6

    Time, Speed & Distance 1 1 3 5

    Percentages 4 0 0 4

    Geometry 3 1 0 4

    HCF-LCM 3 0 0 3

     Averages 3 0 0 3

    Simple Arithmetic operations 3 0 0 3

    Permutation & Combination

    (Only Fundamental Principle of Counting) 2 0 0 2

    Profit & Loss 0 2 0 2

    Ratios 1 1 0 2

    Mixtures &Alligation 0 1 0 1

    Geometric Progression 1 0 0 1

    Indices 1 0 0 1

    Logarithms 1 0 0 1

    Total 30 6 4 40

of types Permutation & Combination (only simple questionsusing Fundamental Principle of Counting), Set Theory and

Venn Diagrams. There was no question on Data Sufficiency.

Most of the questions were solvable within less than a

minute. However one question set on Time Speed Distance

with three questions was fairly tough and time consuming.

There was no alternative with a correct answer in one ques-

tion on Work, Pipes & Cisterns, which confused a lot of

    students.

A good number of attempts for this section would be 32-35

     with 90% accuracy.

Analytical Reasoning-Logical Reasoning(Suggested time allocation 40-45 MINS)This section contained a good mix of questions from Cod-

ing, Sequences, Data Interpretation and Verbal Reason-

ing. There were two Data Interpretation caselets involving

tables, containing two questions each. One DI set was of

moderate level of difficulty and had close options. The other

caselet was easy. However, some students reported that one

of the questions had multiple correct alternatives. There

was one caselet with three questions on Venn diagrams. The

questions were straight-forward but the wording of the ques-

tions was somewhat ambiguous. There was one question on

Visual Reasoning and two Verbal Reasoning questions on

Syllogisms which were easy. Overall, this section was easy

to moderate level of difficulty and was easier than that of last

     year SNAP.

A good number of attempts for the AR-LR section would be

    25-27 questions with 85-90% accuracy.

General English (Suggested time allocation25-30 MINS)Unlike the previous years, this section had two RC passages

    - one of about 400 words with 4 questions and the other of

about 800 words with 3 questions. The first passage was

philosophical and tried to persuade the reader that ill temper

is one of the most destructive elements in nature, but the

questions were simple enough. There were two direct and

simple questions here and one easy vocabulary question and

one medium vocabulary question. The other passage had a

purpose based and a tone based question, which were of a

medium level, and one easy direct question.

The remaining 33 questions were distributed as follows:

    Level of difficulty

Question Type Easy Medium Difficult Total

    Synonyms 2 4 2 8

    Grammar (Replace the highlighted phrase) 3 2 0 5

A good number of attempts for this section would be 28-32

    questions with 80-85% accuracy.

General Awareness (Suggested time allocation10-15 MINS)Out of the 40 questions, few (7-9) were based on current

affairs. There were quite a few questions on International

Affairs (13-15). Unlike the previous years, many questions

    (16) were based on economics and finance. About 12 ques-

tions were easy, 12 were of a medium level and 16 were diffi-

cult. In 10-15 minutes, one could have attempted 18-22 ques-

tions. The accuracy in this section would be low (50-60%).

Overall, the cut offs are estimated be similar to last year’s

i.e. around 100-105 for SIBM AND 95 -100 for SCMHRD.

*Expected SNAP cutoff data is based on last year’s trend and experts’ inputs

Shortlist CriteriaTill last year, candidates were shortlisted on the basis of their SNAP scores. This year onwards, candidates’ past academic

records will also be considered. The candidates’ SNAP 2013 scores will be scaled down to 40 and the academic profile will be

scaled down to 10. The formula is as follows:

    Weights for Shortlisting

SNAP Score out of 180 Scaled Down to 40 (A) Academic Profile (AP) Score out of 15Scaled Down to 10 (B)

    Total (A+B)

    40 10 50

The above score will be converted to percentile and the respective institutes will communicate the cut-off score to the Univer-

sity. University will announce shortlisted candidates for respective program (s) of the institutes (16th January 2014).

Computing Academic ScoresSIU will compute the Academic Profile Score as follows:

     AP = (A*1) + (B*1.5) + (C*2.5)

Where A = Score assigned to 10th Marks.

B = Score assigned to Std. 12th Marks.

C = Score assigned to Graduation Marks.

Tables below show how scores for A, B & C are assigned:

    (A)

Percentage Score in Xth Exam Score

    60-69.99 1

    70-79.99 2

    >=80 3

    (B)

Percentage Score in XIIth Exam Score

    60-69.99 1

    70-79.99 2

    >=80 3

    (C)

    Percentage Score in GraduationExam

    Score

    60-64.99 1

    65-74.99 2

    >=75 3

SIU mentions, “While computing marks of Std. X, XII &

    Graduation, candidate should adhere to:

All the subjects that appear in the mark-sheet of 10th and

12th Std. examinations will be considered irrespective of

whether the Board/University considers them for calculat-

ing the percentage. For bachelor’s degree, marks obtained

in all the subjects as mentioned in the mark-sheets in all the

years will be taken into account. If a candidate has a 5 year

integrated Master’s degree, percentage of marks obtained

in the first 3 years will be considered as bachelor’s degree

percentage. For candidates appearing for their graduation

examination, the average percentage of the marks obtainedin all the previous semesters will be computed.”

New Final Selection Procedure: WAT Replaces GEIn the past years, the candidates had to appear for Group

Exercise (GE) and Personal Interview (PI) rounds separate-

ly for the institutes in which they were shortlisted. This year

onwards, SNAP selection criteria have undergone change.

The GE round will be replaced with Written Ability Test

(WAT) and the WAT-PI round will be common. Speaking

on this changed procedure, Dr. Rajani Gupte, VC, SIU says,

“The decision was primarily towards more transparency and

also to be a student friendly University. Also we had done an

in-depth study from SNAP aspirants as to what would help

the aspirants towards a seamless, transparent and efficient

process. We have already implemented the Common Reg-

istration process and are geared up for all the subsequent

    steps.”

Computation of the Final Merit ListThe final merit list will be prepared by the institutes indi-

vidually on the basis of the following formulae:

    Weights for Final Merit List

    SNAP & AcademicProfile Score

    Writing AbilityTest

    PersonalInteraction

    Total

    40 + 10 = 50 15 35 100

According to SIU, a candidate would also be able to see his/

her selection status in each program that he/she had beenselected for in a consolidated format.
