TEACHER

A child teaches itself. But you can

help it to go forward in its own

way.

What you can do, is not of the

positive nature, but of the

negative.

You can take away the obstacles,

but knowledge comes out of its

own nature.

Education is the mother of leadership...Wendell L. Willkie

Counselling can help students….

Faculty and staff to observe signs of distress in students – Erratic, absences, declining academic performance, poor emotional control, moodiness ……

Understand them change negative patterns Intervene in these situations Express concern about well-being. Provide free and confidential help (Uplift). “Most students respect faculty a great deal, even if they do

not always demonstrate that respect; and your intervention

may make the difference for that student.”

Good teachers care more about their students learning than they do about their own teaching.Prof. Dr. S. Swapna Kumar

values regarding proper conduct in

the workplace

~Professionalism~ in the Workplace

“Don't try to fix the students, fix ourselves first. The good teacher makes the poor student good and the good student superior. When our students fail, we, as teachers, too, have failed.”

Questions to Discuss in a Department If a student has been exhibiting unusual behavior and

other students are complaining, what should I do? What are my rights as a professor? What are my students’ rights? What if a student confides emotional difficulties to

me? What if a student presents me with an overt or veiled

threat? Can I tell a student to leave the class and not come

back? What should I do if my students begin challenging my

authority? Classes are getting larger and students harder to

deal with. What can I do?Prof. Dr. S. Swapna Kumar
