    D.P.P. - 4

    1. Identify the products:

    2.

    Suggest a suitable mechanism.

    3. Explain briefly the formation of the products giving the structure of the intermediates.

    4. Identify the products.

    5. An organic compound (C9H9Cl) A decolourises Br2 water and when heated with NaNH2 in leq.

NH3 produced another unsaturated compound (B) which does not exhibit geormetrical isomerism

(C9H8). The compound (B) on treatment with dil H2SO4 and HgSO4 gives (C), which on vigorous

    oxidation with acidified KMnO4 produces 1, 4 benzenedicarboxylic acid. Identify (A), (B), (C) and

shown how (C) is formed from (B). Treatment of (C) with CH3MgI followed by acidification

produces a compound which on dehydration followed by catalytic hydrogenation produces D.

Identify D. An isomer (E) of (B) on reduction with Na in liq. NH3 produces (F) Which exhibits

trans- stereochemistry. Write structures of (E) and (F). What reagent would you use to converting

    (D) to (G) which is a geometrical isomer of (E). Give the structures of (G).

    6. Give the structures of (A) to (E).

    7. Identify A, B, C and D in the following.

Also select pairs of isomers if any.

    8. Show the products of these reacn.

    (a) Ph CH = CH - CH3 + HBr ? (b)
