PERSONAL STATEMENT
I am a motivated and enthusiastic individual, with a track record of acquiring new skills and working in teams of different sizes and purposes. Over my six years at university, studying civil engineering and then architecture, I have had plenty of opportu-nities to work in teams and under pressure, delivering projects on time and to specification. I recently headed a team of Not-tingham University students whose sustainable pavilion design was chosen by EcoBuild to be constructed and presented at the 2012 EcoBuild exhibition, Nottingham Castle during the Olympics and in Old Market Square for Nottingham Light Night 2013.
I adapt well to new situations and am extremely keen to travel with my work and studies as can be seen from my year abroad in Perth and travelling experiences. I am also keen to get involved with projects outside the sphere of education, for example Duke of Edinburgh Awards and volunteering societies which expand my life experience as well as letting me associate with a more diverse range of people. I have had quite a few interactive jobs, which have encouraged my communication skills and improved my confidence both within and outside the Architectural field.

RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE
Adam Dudley Architects (August 2012)Working on a current project using AutoCAD and Sketch Up to produce 3D computer model of a housing extension allowed me to put what I had learnt in second year into practise. I also visited a variety of both current and past project sites in Edinburgh which I found particularly interesting.
Kaboyi Primary School, Uganda (July 2011 – August 2011)Teaching Health, Hygiene and Sanitation to large groups of children and adults much improved my confidence in public speak-ing and organisational skills especially when creating community committees. I also taught Fuel Efficient stove construction, as well as worked alongside an engineer to construct a water tank and source.
Theakers (Oct 2010 – Present)Working as a stock taker often means working long hours, and is a position that requires good organisational skills and concen-tration and is a large responsibility.
Guy Holloway Architects (August 2010)During the month of work experience with an architectural practice I learnt more about the model making process and worked with AutoCad drawings to produce a replica of a rollercoaster. Mostly it tested my patience and perfectionist skills. It also gave me invaluable experience of the work place and how an architect’s office functions. I also had the chance to go on site to watch the proceedings for another project.
William Harvey Hospital (Aug 2008 – Sept 2008)Working as a clerical assistant for Appointments involved a lot of responsibility and inputting of data. It improved my interper-sonal skills as I had to converse with patients, colleagues and doctors.
Acorn Work Experience (February 2008)Working for a week in Besancon, France hugely improved my French language skills as well as my speaking confidence. The experience also encouraged me out of my comfort zone and tested my ability to interact with new people.
Hydrotherapy Department, Kent and Canterbury Hospital (Sept 2005 – Sept 2007)My job as a Poolside Assistant involved assisting the physiotherapist with the patients both inside and outside the pool. This job gave me the opportunity to interact with a wide range of patients and health professionals.
RESPONSIBILITIES
EcoBuild Team Leader (Dec 2011 – Present) This involved organising a group of 14 students throughout the duration of the design and construction process as well as the presentation of the pavilion during the week of EcoBuild and at other events since. This really reinforced my team working skills especially as a leader but also hugely improved my organisational skills, delegation skills and time keeping of both myself and fellow students. It also gave me an opportunity to engage and work with people in the Architectural field and a range of University faculty members outside my studies.
Unit Representative, Second and Third Year (Oct 2011 – Jun 2013)This involves collating issues that fellow students have with the course and communicating these to other representatives and staff in regular meetings throughout the year.
Sourcing and Transport Manager for the charity FoodCycle, Bristol (Sept 2010 – Jun 2011) This was a large responsibility however allowed me to give back to the community as well as experience more teamwork. This was also the first experience of working with a team to achieve a socially responsibility result as opposed to a report or presentation.
Civil Engineering Social Representative (Sept 2008 – Jun 2011)In this role I organised events for my peers at Bristol University outside of study hours in both second and fourth year.
Volunteered for Dept. of Environment and Conservation, WA, Australia (Dec 2009 – Jan 2010) This involved working with a dolphin conservation group, on a pearl farm and on a dive boat. This introduced me to a very different culture and work ethic in particular it was very interesting and demanding working with animals. It also allowed me to further my diving experience in one of the best spots in the world.
‘Accountant’ Young Enterprise (Sept 2005 - June 2006) This role really focused my organisational skills as well as taught me about some aspects of accountancy.
Volunteer Carer at Kent and Canterbury Hospital nursery (Sept 2005 – Sept 2006)This involved supervising young children safely and keeping them active.
Volunteer Tennis Coach at Kings Recreation centre (2004 - 2006) This not only improved my tennis skills but allowed me to work with younger children and motivate and control groups.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I regularly play tennis, swimming, squash, dancing, skiing, yoga, hockey and kickboxing.I am a keen traveller and since starting university have travelled around Eastern and Southern Asia, Indonesia, Australasia, America, East Africa and parts of Europe as well as lived and studied in Perth, WA for a year and Uganda for three months. I have a driver’s license, clean criminal record and good I.T skills in both Microsoft Of-fice and Adobe Photoshop and InDesign. I have basic knowledge of EcoTect, AutoCAD and Sketch-Up, used whilst working at practices however have primarily hand drawn my studio work whilst at university.
