Road safety

Road safety has absolute prior-ity. Only operate your car radio if theroad and traffic conditions allow youto do so. Familiarise yourself with theunit before setting off on your jour-ney.You should always be able to hearpolice, fire and ambulance sirensfrom afar. For this reason, set thevolume of whatever you are listen-ing to at a reasonable level.

InstallationIf you want to install your car radio your-self, please read the installation andconnection instructions that follow theseoperating instructions.

AccessoriesOnly use accessories approved by Blau-punkt.

Remote controlsThe most important functions of your carradio can be accessed safely and con-veniently from the steering wheel usingthe remote controls RC 08, RC 10 orRC 10H (available as an optional ac-cessory).

The radio cannot be switched on/offusing the remote control.

AmplifierAll Blaupunkt amplifiers can be used.

CD changerYou can connect the following BlaupunktCD changers:CDC A 02, CDC A 06, CDC A 08, CDCA 072 and IDC A 09.You can also connect the CDC A 05 andCDC A 071 CD changers by using anadapter cable (Blaupunkt no. 7 607 889093).

Compact Drive MP3As an alternative to a CD changer, youcan connect a Compact Drive MP3 toaccess MP3 music tracks. If you con-nect a Compact Drive MP3, you will firstneed to use a computer to store the MP3music tracks on the Microdrive™ harddisk inside the Compact Drive MP3.Then, when the Compact Drive MP3 isconnected to the car radio, you can playthe tracks like normal CD music tracks.The Compact Drive MP3 is operated inthe same way as a CD changer. Mostof the CD changer functions can alsobe used with the Compact Drive MP3.

Removable control panel

Theft protectionAs a way of protecting your car radioagainst theft, the unit is equipped witha removable control panel (release pan-el). Without this control panel, the carradio is worthless to a thief.Protect you car radio against theft bytaking the control panel with you everytime you leave your vehicle. Do not leavethe control panel in your vehicle - noteven in a hiding place.The control panel has been designedto be easy to use.

Note:● Never drop the control panel.

● Never expose the control panel todirect sunlight or other heat sourc-es.

● Avoid making direct skin contactwith the control panel’s contacts. Ifnecessary, clean the contacts witha lint-free cloth and some alcohol.

➮ First, pull the control panel straightoff the unit and then out towardsthe left.

● The unit switches off after the con-trol panel is removed.

● All the current settings are saved.

● Any CD already inserted in the unitremains there.

Attaching the control panel➮ Slide the control panel from left to

right into the unit’s guide.

➮ Press the left-hand edge of thecontrol panel into the unit until itclicks into place.

Note:● When attaching the control panel,

make sure you do not press thedisplay.

If the device was still switched on whenyou removed the control panel, it willautomatically switch on again with thelast settings activated (i.e. radio, CD, CDchanger/Compact Drive MP3 or AUX)when the panel is replaced.

Switching on/offThere are various ways of switching theunit on/off:

Switching on/off using the vehicleignitionIf the unit is correctly connected to thevehicle’s ignition and it was not switchedoff using button 2, it will switch on/offsimultaneously with the ignition.You can also switch the unit on even ifthe ignition is off:

➮ To do so, press button 2.

Note:● To protect the vehicle battery, the

unit will switch off automatically af-ter one hour if the ignition is off.

Switching on/off using theremovable control panel

➮ Remove the control panel.

The unit switches off.

➮ Attach the control panel again.

The unit switches on. The settings (ra-dio, CD, CD changer/Compact DriveMP3 or AUX) that were set before theunit was switched off will be reactivat-ed.

Switching on/off using button 2

➮ To switch the unit on, press button2.

➮ To switch the unit off, press button2 for longer than two seconds.

The unit switches off.

Adjusting the volumeThe system volume can be adjusted insteps from 0 (off) to 66 (maximum).To increase the volume,

➮ turn the volume control 3 to theright.

To decrease the volume,

➮ turn the volume control 3 to theleft.

Setting the power-on volumeYou can set the default volume at whichthe unit switches on.

➮ Press the MENU button 7.

➮ Keep pressing the or button5 until “ON VOL” appears in thedisplay.

➮ Set the power-on volume using the and buttons 5.

To help you adjust the volume moreeasily, the volume will be increased /decreased as you make your changes.

If you change the setting to “LAST VOL”,the power-on volume will be the sameas the volume level that was set beforethe unit was last switched off.

Note:● To protect your hearing, the maxi-

mum power-on volume that can beset for “LAST VOL” setting is “38”.If the volume was higher before theunit was switched off and “LASTVOL” was selected, the volume willbe set to “38” the next time the ra-dio is switched on.

Switching on by inserting a CDIf the unit is switched off and there is noCD inserted in the drive,

➮ Gently insert the CD with the print-ed side uppermost into the driveuntil you feel some resistance.

The CD will be drawn automatically intothe drive.

You must not hinder or assist the driveas it draws in the CD.The unit switches on. CD playback be-gins.

Instantaneous volume reduction(mute)This feature allows you to instantane-ously reduce (mute) the volume to a lev-el preset by you.

➮ Briefly press button 2.

“MUTE” appears in the display.

Setting the mute levelYou can set the unit’s mute volume lev-el.

➮ Press the MENU button 7.

➮ Keep pressing the or button5 until “MUTE LVL” appears inthe display.

➮ Set the mute level using the and buttons 5.

When you have finished making yourchanges,

➮ press the MENU button 7 twice.

Telephone audio / navigationaudio(only on the Santa Cruz CD32)If your car radio is connected to a mo-bile telephone or a navigation system,the unit’s volume will be muted as soonas you “pick up” the telephone or assoon as a navigation announcement ismade. The caller or voice output willthen be heard over the car radio loud-speakers. In order for this to work, themobile telephone or navigation system

must be connected to the car radio inthe manner described in the installationinstructions.

You can find out from your Blaupunktdealer which navigation systems can beused with your car radio.If a traffic information message is re-ceived during a telephone call or whilsta navigation announcement is beingmade, the traffic message will only beplayed after the call or voice output isfinished.

If you are already listening to a trafficannouncement and a telephone callarrives or the navigation system wish-es to make a voice output, the trafficannouncement will first be heard. Oncethe traffic message is finished, you canlisten to the call or the voice output.

You can set the volume level at whichtelephone calls and the navigation voiceoutput will first be heard.

➮ Press the MENU button 7.

➮ Keep pressing the or button5 until “TEL VOL” appears in thedisplay.

➮ Set the required volume using the and buttons 5.

When you have finished making yourchanges,

➮ press the MENU button 7 twice.

Note:● Using the volume control 3, you

can directly adjust the volume oftelephone calls and navigationvoice output (whilst they are beingheard).

Mute while telephoning(Alicante CD32, Kiel CD32, Porto CD32and San Remo CD32)If your car audio system is equipped witha mobile telephone, it will automaticallyswitch to mute when you use the phone.This will only work if the mobile phoneis connected to the car audio systemas described in the installation instruc-tions.

The volume will be reduced to the con-figured volume mute level.

Confirmation beepFor some functions you will hear a con-firmation beep if you keep a buttonpressed for longer than two seconds.For instance, after storing a radio sta-tion to a station button you will hear aconfirmation beep. The beep can beswitched on/off.

➮ Press the MENU button 7.

➮ Keep pressing the or button5 until “BEEP” appears in the dis-play.

➮ Use the and buttons 5 toswitch between the options.

“OFF” means beep off, “ON” means thebeep is switched on.

➮ Press the MENU button 7.

Radio modeThis unit is equipped with an RDS radioreceiver. Many of the receivable FM sta-tions transmit a signal that not only car-ries the programme but also additionalinformation such as the station nameand programme type (PTY).The station name appears in the dis-play as soon as it is received.

Switching to radio modeIf you are in CD, CD changer/CompactDrive MP3 or AUX mode,➮ press the BND•TS button <.

Or

➮ keep pressing the SRC button 6until “RADIO” appears in the dis-play.

RDS functions (AF, REG)The RDS functions AF (Alternative Fre-quency) and REG (Regional) extendyour radio’s range of functions.

● AF: If this RDS function is activat-ed, the unit automatically tunes intothe best receivable frequency forthe station that is currently set.

● REG: At certain times, some radiostations divide their programmeinto regional programmes providingdifferent regional content. You canuse the REG function to preventthe car radio from switching to al-ternative frequencies that aretransmitting different programmecontent.

Note:● REG must be separately activated/

deactivated in the menu.

Switching REG on/off

➮ Press the MENU button 7.

➮ Keep pressing the or button5 until “REG” appears in the dis-play.

“OFF” or “ON” is displayed alongside“REG”.

To switch REG on/off,

➮ press the or button 5.

Switching the RDS function on/offTo use the RDS functions (AF andREG),

➮ press the TRAF•RDS button ; forlonger than two seconds.

The RDS functions are active whenRDS lights up in the display.

Selecting the waveband /memory bankThis unit can receive programmesbroadcast over the FM, MW and LWwavebands.

Note:● The MW and LW wavebands are

not available on the Kiel CD32.

There are three memory banks for theFM range and one for each of the MWand LW wavebands.

Six stations can be stored in each mem-ory bank.

Selecting the memory bankTo switch between the FM memorybanks and the MW and LW wavebands,➮ keep pressing the BND•TS button

< until the required waveband /memory bank is displayed.

Tuning into a stationThere are various ways of tuning into astation.

Automatic seek tuning

➮ Press the or button 9.

The unit tunes into the next receivablestation.

Setting the sensitivity stationseek tuningYou can configure the radio to only tuneinto stations with a strong reception orto also tune into those with a weak re-ception.

➮ Press the MENU button 7.

➮ Keep pressing the or button5 until “SENS” appears in the dis-play.

➮ Press the button 5.

The display shows the currently set val-ue for sensitivity. “SENS HI6” meansthat the tuner is highly sensitive. “SENSLO1” means it is set to the lowest sen-sitivity setting.

If “SENS LO” is selected, “lo” lights upin the display.

➮ Set the required sensitivity usingthe and buttons 5.

➮ Press the MENU button 7.

Tuning into stations manuallyYou can also tune into stations manual-ly.

Note:● You can only tune into stations

manually if the RDS function is de-activated.

➮ Press the or button 5.

Browsing through broadcastingnetworks (only FM)If a radio station provides several pro-grammes, you have the option of brows-ing through its so-called “broadcastingnetwork”.

Note:● If you want to use this feature, the

RDS function must be activated.

➮ Press the or button 5 toswitch to the next station on thebroadcasting network.

When using this feature, you will onlybe able to switch to stations that youhave received once already. To do so,use either the Travelstore function orallow the automatic seek tuning featureto run once through the entire frequen-cy range.

Storing stations

Storing stations manually

➮ Select the required FM1 / FM2 /FMT memory bank or MW / LWwaveband (MW and LW are notavailable on the Kiel CD32).

➮ Tune into the station.

➮ Press one of the station buttons 1 -6 : for longer than one second tostore the station to that button.

Storing stations automatically(Travelstore)You can automatically store the five sta-tions with the strongest reception in theregion (only for FM). The stations arestored in the FMT memory bank.

Note:● Stations that were previously

stored in this memory bank are de-leted in the process.

➮ Keep the BND•TS button <pressed for longer than two sec-onds.

The station storing procedure begins.“T-STORE” appears in the display. Afterthe process is completed, the stationstored in FMT memory location 1 willbe played.

Listening to stored stations➮ Select the memory bank on which

the station was stored.

➮ Press the station button of the sta-tion you want to listen to.

Scanning receivable stations(SCAN)You can briefly play all the receivablestations. You can set the scanning timeto between 5 and 30 seconds in themenu.

Starting SCAN➮ Hold down the MENU button 7 for

longer than two seconds.Scanning begins. “SCAN” appearsbriefly in the display followed by thecurrent frequency (which flashes).

Stopping SCAN and continuinglistening to a station➮ Briefly press the MENU button 7.

Scanning is stopped and the station thatwas tuned into last will remain active.

Setting the scantime➮ Press the MENU button 7.

➮ Keep pressing the or button5 until “SCANTIME” appears inthe display.

➮ Set the required scantime usingthe and buttons 5.

When you have finished making yourchanges,

➮ press the MENU button 7 twice.

Note:● The set scantime also applies to

scanning in CD and CD changermode.

Programme type (PTY)Besides transmitting the station name,some FM stations also provide informa-tion on the type of programme that theyare broadcasting.For example, the programme types canbe:

Using the PTY function, you can direct-ly select stations of a particular pro-gramme type.

PTY-EONIf you specify the programme type andstart seek tuning, the radio will switchfrom the current station to a station ofthe selected programme type.

Note:● If no station is found that corre-

sponds to the selected programmetype, you will hear a beep and “NOPTY” appears briefly in the display.The station that was listened to lastwill then be tuned into again.

● If the tuned radio station or anotherstation on the broadcasting net-work broadcasts the required pro-gramme type at a later point intime, the radio automaticallyswitches from the currently tunedstation or from CD mode / CDchanger / Compact Drive MP3mode to the station whose pro-gramme type matches the one youselected.

Switching PTY on/off

➮ Press the MENU button 7.

➮ Keep pressing the or button5 until “PTY ON” or “PTY OFF”appears in the display.

➮ Press the or button 5 toswitch between the settings.

When you have finished making yourchanges,

➮ press the MENU button 7.

Selecting the PTY languageYou set the language in which the pro-gramme type is displayed.

➮ Press the MENU button 7.

➮ Keep pressing the or button5 until “PTY LANG” appears inthe display.

➮ Press the or button 5 toswitch between German, Englishand French.

When the required language appearsin the display,

➮ press the MENU button 7 twice.

Treble reduction feature duringinterference (HICUT)The hicut feature improves receptionduring poor radio reception. If interfer-ence occurs, the treble is automaticallyreduced thus reducing the interferencelevel.

Switching hicut on/off

➮ Press the MENU button 7.

➮ Keep pressing the or button5 until “HICUT” appears in thedisplay.

➮ Press the or button 5 toswitch HICUT on/off.

“HICUT 0” means no reduction will bemade; “HICUT 1” means the treble andtherefore also the interference level willbe reduced.

➮ Press the MENU button 7.

Selecting a programme type andstarting seek tuning

➮ Press the or button 5.

The current programme type appearsin the display.

➮ If you want to select another pro-gramme type, you can do so bypressing the or button 5whilst in this display.

Or

➮ Press one of the buttons 1 - 6 :to select a programme type that isstored on one of these buttons.

The selected programme type is dis-played briefly.

➮ Press the or button 5 to startseek tuning.

The next station corresponding to yourselected programme type will then betuned into.

Storing a programme type on astation button

➮ Select a programme type using the or button 5.

➮ Press and hold the required button1 - 6 : until you hear a beep.

The programme type is now stored onthe station button 1 - 6 : that you se-lected.

Traffic informationreception

Switching traffic informationpriority on/off➮ Press the TRAF•RDS button ;.

Traffic announcement priority is activewhen a traffic jam symbol lights up inthe display.

Note:You will hear a warning sound

● if you leave the reception area of atraffic information station that youare currently listening to.

● if, while listening to a CD, you leavethe reception area of a traffic infor-mation station that you are tunedinto and the subsequent automaticsearch cannot find a new traffic in-formation station.

● if you retune the radio from a trafficinformation station to a station thatdoes not broadcast traffic informa-tion.

If you hear the warning sound, you caneither switch off traffic information pri-ority or tune into a station that broad-casts traffic information.

CD modeYou can use this unit to play audio CDs,CD-Rs and CD-RWs with a diameter of12 cm.

Risk of damage to the CD drive!CD singles with a diameter of 8 cmand contoured CDs (shape CDs) arenot suitable for playback in this unit.We accept no liability for any dam-age to the CD drive that may occuras a result of the use of unsuitableCDs.

Switching to CD mode● If there is no CD inserted in the

drive.

➮ Gently insert the CD with the print-ed side uppermost into the CDcompartment until you feel someresistance.

The CD will be drawn automatically intothe drive.Do not use force when inserting the CD.You must not hinder or assist the driveas it draws in the CD.CD playback begins.

● If a CD is already inserted in thedrive.

➮ Keep pressing the SRC button 6until “CD” appears in the display.

Playback begins from the point at whichit was last interrupted.

Selecting tracks➮ Press one of the / or / but-

tons 5 to select the next or previ-ous track.

If you press the / button 5 once,the current track will be played againfrom the beginning.

Quick track selectionTo quickly select tracks backwards orforwards,

➮ keep one of the or buttons 5pressed until fast-reverse / fast-for-ward track selection begins.

Fast searching (audible)To fast search backwards or forwards,

➮ keep one of the buttons 5pressed until fast searching back-wards / forwards begins.

Random play (MIX)➮ Press button 5 (MIX) :.

MIX appears in the display. The nextrandomly selected track will then beplayed.

Cancelling MIX

X-BASSThe X-BASS feature can be used toboost the bass at low volume levels.

Note:● You can adjust the X-Bass settings

Adjusting the X-BASS boostsettingsThe X-BASS boost can be set in stepsranging from 1 to 3.

“XBASS OFF” means that the X-BASSfeature is switched off.

➮ Press the X-BASS button 8.

➮ Keep pressing the or but-ton 5 until the required setting ap-pears in the display.

If the X-BASS boost is set to a value of1, 2 or 3, the X-BASS symbol appearsin the display.

Setting the level displayThe level display briefly provides a sym-bolic display of the volume and thesound control settings whilst you are ad-justing them.When you are not changing any set-tings, the level display can also be usedto display the car radio’s output level(“PEAK ON”). You can also choose todeactivate the level display (“PEAKOFF”).

Switching the level display on/off➮ Press the MENU button 7.
