Algebra 2A 2017 - 2018

Homework Homework will be assigned every day. I will provide the homework solutions to you via email at the time that the homework is assigned. I do this so that you can check your answers as you go and KNOW that you are doing the problems correctly.

I will usually give you some time, during class, to start your homework assignment. I encourage you to ask me questions during this time so that you are confident about what you need to do to finish at home. I will walk around just to help you. We will go over any problems you got stuck on at home at the beginning of class the next day. I expect that you will check your own homework at home with the solutions I give you.

Each homework assigned is worth 5 points. I will grade you based on whether or not you completed the entire assignment, showed all of your steps and made corrections (in colored ink) to the problems as we went over them in class. If you don’t show your work, you won’t earn any points.

The purpose of homework is to give you time to practice your skills at Algebra. Practice is necessary in order to learn the algebraic procedures. These are skills that you will need for every other math you ever take.

Homework that is up to two days late will be marked down 20%. Beyond that it will be marked down 40%.

CalculatorsYou will need a calculator in class every day. For this class I recommend the TI 30XIIS. It costs about $15. You may use a different calculator, but it may not work the same way, and I may not necessarily know how yours works. I will demonstrate lengthy calculations on the TI 30XIIS. You may NOT use your cell phone as a calculator. You may use your iPad as a calculator in class but not on a test. Make sure that you have a calculator for tests as I only have a few extra that I can loan.

If you are interested in investing in a graphing calculator that you can use throughout high school and college, OLL math and science departments all recommend the TI 84 family of calculators.

Grade Computation

Quarter Grades are based on the following:

• 30% homework

• 70% tests

Semester final grades are based on the following:

• 80% semester grade

• 20% final exam grade

iPad Requirements

You will need to bring your iPad, fully charged, every day. Daily homework assignments and solutions will be accessed through your iPad.

Failure to bring your iPad or have it charged such that you cannot do your work will result in your losing homework points or earning a detention.

Cell Phones

Please be aware of the school policy regarding cell phones. If I SEE your phone, I will confiscate it and turn it in to the office.

Algebra 2A 2017 - 2018

Hall PassesThe only acceptable time to request a hall pass to use the restroom is BEFORE class begins or after I have completed instruction. Not only is it a disruption to have students randomly asking to use the bathroom, but I do not like students to miss key concepts by being out of the room. If you anticipate needing the restroom, ask me before the bell rings - I will permit you to go at this time.

ProductivityThis class period is dedicated to Algebra 2A. All work during this class period will be for this class. If you are working on assignments for other classes, I will confiscate the assignment. I will only return the confiscated assignment to the appropriate teacher at the request of that teacher.

Contact InformationEmail is the fastest and easiest way to reach me. I will make an effort to reply to any email that I receive before 8:00pm. Please do not hesitate to email me at any time. I absolutely do not mind. When emailing me, please do so from your school email account as I am not allowed to reply to a personal email account of a student. My email address is [email protected].

Check Your Email!

As an alternative to making paper copies I will email you electronic copies of things like worksheets and the solutions for the daily homework. Additionally, I use email as the method of communicating with my classes about both assignments as well as administrative issues. As such, you need to be responsible for checking your school email at least once each day.
