Capital Food Fight Robert Paschen, 26 min. On a cold day in January 2009, the initial salvo in Washington’s mobile food war was fired. In four years, D.C. has become one of the top five food truck cities in the country. Some say it’s because of a loophole in the law. And politically connected restaurants and building owners are using back channels to squash the little guy. But trucks are fighting back ... big time. This political fight is happening in cities across the country as communities cope with an exploding food truck industry that is raising questions about capitalism, social media and the future of business in America. Special guest: Robert Paschen.

This is NormalDerek Watson, 21 min. Every morning nearly half of the world’s population will wake up and walk 6 km round trip, on average, to fetch water from open and contaminated sources. Pumps of Oklahoma is involved in development work to not only drill wells, but to teach villagers how to drill and maintain the wells—creating jobs, livelihoods and sustained safe water.D.C. premiere

Welcome to the 2013 Alexandria Film Festival!

Our seventh festival is bigger and better than ever! We have expanded our films from 40 to more than 60 and are screening at the recently restored Old Town Theater, the Lyceum, Charles Beatley Central Library and, for the first time, the United Way Mary M. Gates Learning Center. Over 200 films were submitted from all over the world, and films from France, Italy, the U.K., Germany and Brazil are among the international offerings. We also feature appearances by a number of filmmakers—from as far away as India and as close as the Washington metropolitan area.

We hope you enjoy “Celebrating Independents”!
