The present map shows the current situation on the flood delineation in the area of Alcoa(PORTUGAL). Thematic layers, assessing the delineation of the event, have been derivedfrom post-event image RADARSAT-2 © MDA (acquired on 12/02/2014 06:29 UTC, GSD 3 m)Ltd. All rights reserved.The estimated geometric accuracy of this product is 3 m CE90 or better, from nativepositional accuracy of the background aerial image.The estimated thematic accuracy of this product is 85% or better, based on previousexperience in using medium-resolution SAR data for flood extent delineation. Please beaware that the thematic accuracy might be lower in urban and forested areas due to knownlimitations of the analysis technique.Only the area enclosed by the Area of Interest has been analyzed.Map produced on 23/02/2014 by GAF AG under contract 257219 with the EuropeanCommission. The products elaborated in the framework of current mapping in rush mode activation arerealized to the best of our ability, within a very short time frame during a crisis, optimising theavailable data and information. All geographic information has limitations due to scale,resolution, date and interpretation of the original data sources. The products are compliantwith GIO-EMS RUSH Product Portfolio specifications.
From the beginning of 2014, Portugal has experienced about 50 consecutive days of rain.Since 9th of February the situation has become more critical with strong winds, heavy rainfalland rough seas affecting the country. Relentless rain caused major rivers to overflow andsome communities have been completely cut off by water. Massive waves were also whippedup, flooding several seaside establishments. The region hasn't experienced from many yearsa so long and so hard winter weather.
No restrictions on the publication of the mapping apply.Delivery formats are GeoTIFF, GeoPDF, GeoJPEG and vectors (shapefile and KML formats).
