ALCCOFINE 1206

ALCCOFINE 1206 performs in superior manner than all other mineral admixtures used in concrete

within India. Due to its inbuilt CaO content, ALCCOFINE 1206 triggers two way reactions duringhydration

Primary reaction of cement hydration.

Pozzolanic reaction: ALCCOFINE also consumes by product calcium hydroxide from the

hydration of cement to form additional C-S-H gel, similar to pozzolans.

This results in denser pore structure and ultimately higher strength gain.

INTRODUCTION

As a result of growth in advance technology in concrete, high performance concrete (HPC) has gained

world wide popularity in the construction industry since 1990. In practice, high performance concrete,are generally characterized by high cement factors and very low W/C ratios. Such concrete suffer from

two major weaknesses. It is extremely difficult to obtained proper workability, and to retain the

workability for sufficiently long period of time with such concrete mixes. High dosage of high range

water reducing agents(HRWR) then become a necessity, and resulting cohesive and thixotropic, sticky

mixes are equally difficult to place and compact fully and efficiently. These problem indicate that

there is probably a critical limit for the water content below which high HRWR dosage become not

only essential but also unhelpful and undesirable, and often even harmfull from a durability point of

view.

ALCCOFINE 1206 is a specially processed product based on slag of high glass content with high

reactivity obtained through the process of controlled granulation. The raw materials are composed

primary of low calcium silicates. The processing with other select ingredients results in controlled

particle size distribution (PSD). The computed blain value based on PSD is around 8000cm2/gm and is

truly fine. Due to its unique chemistry and fine particle size, ALCCOFINE 1206 provides reduced water

demand for a given workability, even up to 70% replacement level as per requirement of concrete

performance. ALCCOFINE 1206 can also be used as a high range water reducer to improve

compressive strength or as a super workability aid to improve flow.

PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES

ALCCOFINE 1206 also possesses reactive silicon dioxide (SiO2) in amount sufficient to providesignificant pozzolanic activity and benefits, in addition to the hydraulic properties of the cement. This

is largely associated with lowering the calcium hydroxide [Ca(OH)2] content of the concrete by

converting it into more CSH binder and lowering permeability. In hardened concrete, Ca(OH) 2 is

weaker than CSH, additionally SiO2 in ALCCOFINE 1206 reacts with the Ca(OH)2 to produce more CSH

binder. This means that correctly proportioned mixtures made with ALCCOFINE 1206 and Portland

cement can exhibit higher strength, greatly reduced permeability, and potentially greater durability in

many environments when compared to plain Portland cement concrete.

FINENESS, WATER DEMEND AND COLOR

ALCCOFINE 1206, although finer than Portland cement, does not typically have a higher water demand

compared to Portland cement in concrete. This is believed to be true due to its low absorption and

denser packing features (smaller particles of ALCCOFINE 1206 nestling between the Portland cement

grains).

Unlike gray Portland cements, ALCCOFINE 1206 is typically an off-white color. This is attributed to a

combination of inherent chemical and physical properties of blast furnace slag granules. Generally,

higher dosage rates of ALCCOFINE 1206 in a mix design will yield a lighter, brighter concrete color.

CONCRETE: PROPORTIONING

ALCCOFINE 1206 concrete may be proportioned by the same methods as Portland cement concretes.

When developing and/or selecting a concrete mixture, make certain that it meets the jobrequirements and applicable documents.

CONCRETE: MAKING AND HANDLING

Concrete made with ALCCOFINE 1206 protects the concrete from premature drying during all stages

of finishing and curing. As with all exterior concretes, proper curing and sealing are essential to obtain

maximum durability.







Generally the higher the ALCCOFINE 1206 dosage, the slower the set time. This provides some

advantages during hot weather concreting. Retarding admixtures and cold weather tend to slow set

times of ALCCOFINE 1206 concrete.

CONCRETE: COLOR

Sometimes, concrete made with combinations of ALCCOFINE 1206 and Portland cement may turn

green of blue-green in color, particularly if proper water curing has been applied. This is usually

attributed to either higher ALCCOFINE 1206 dosages, or to the use of a more finely ground GGBS

product. Once exposed to air for a few days, the concrete surface will usually become light gray or

nearly white with most Portland cements.

ALCCOFINE 1206 is shipped, handled and stored similar to Portland cement. As with all cementitious

SUMMARY

The advantages of ALCCOFINE 1206 are observed in the concrete mix design, the initial rate of

strength development was found to be more as compared to other cementations material.

The use of ALCCOFINE 1206 can be effective in enhancing the properties of concrete, both in its fresh

and hardened state. Due to the lower water demand, ALCCOFINE 1206 can be ideally used to:

Use of more cost-effective admixture dosages

A combination of above

ALCCOFINE 1206 is a new generation supplementary cementitious material (SCM) with a built-in high

tech content. In spite of its high fineness it does not increase water demand at the dosage range of 5

to 15 percent of normal OPC in general. In fact concrete slump is seen to be improved, due to the

dense packing of cementitious material, producing low void content. The use of ALCCOFINE 1206

results in hydrated cement matrix to comprise of very small pores.

Strength development increases drastically at early ages and the later on strengths are higher

compared to traditional supplementary cementitious material due to its unique PSD. Judicious use ofALCCOFINE 1206 can produce concrete of superior properties and performance in every way
