Overview

Use this scenario to install Linux, Middleware and B12 BSC software for a 9130 BSC

Evolution, in order to have the desired BSC version.

The purpose of this method is to install a BSC which is not yet integrated in the network.

The procedure is applicable only at the BSC site.

The 9130 BSC Evolution has the following Ethernet network connection:

• One External Network for connection with OMC-R

• Two local networks

As follows:

– Local Service Network 0 (IP 172.17.y.x)

– Local Service Network 1 (IP 172.18.y.x)

Copy BSS Packages from MXPF CD2 on NEM

Procedure

Copy files from MXPF CD2:

...................................................................................................................................................................................................

1 Insert the MXPF CD2 in the NEM PC CD-ROM drive.

Note: If the NEM PC has more than one optical drive (CD or DVD) available, keep

one drive enabled and disable the others.

...................................................................................................................................................................................................

2 Start the RedHat from NEM as described in “Start RedHat from NEM” (p. 2-8).

Note: From the NEM_RedHat, check that CD->Use Physical Drive: is selected.

...................................................................................................................................................................................................

3 From the RedHat NEM, mount the CD:

mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom

mount: block device /dev/cdrom is write-protected, mounting read-

only

Note: If the CD was already mounted automatically, the output is:

mount: /dev/cdrom already mounted or /mnt/cdrom/ busy

...................................................................................................................................................................................................

4 Write down the filenames of the BSS master file and descriptor file which will be used

during the installation.

cd /mnt/cdrom

ls | grep '^...M.L' | grep -v 'BSX'

The previous command gives you the name of the BSS master file.

ls | grep 'MXSW'

The previous command gives you the name of the descriptor file.

...................................................................................................................................................................................................

5 Install the 9130 BSC Evolution software CD on the NEM:

Procedure

Attention: Try to connect with the BSC terminal immediately after you observe the

active LED on the OMCP board, otherwise is very possible to lose some

FIRMWARE-NOT-UP-TO-DATE alarms for a small number of boards.

Check the the status of BSC with the BSC terminal:

...................................................................................................................................................................................................

1 Open the BSC terminal:

On the NEM PC, click on Start->Programs->WinBSC->9130–>B12–>Windows 9130

BSC Terminal B12, and introduce the Virtual IP address of the BSC.

The Virtual IP address is 172.17.33.1

The Compressed Report View window opens.

...................................................................................................................................................................................................

2 Wait until the status in the Report Type field is SYSTEM INITIALISATION.

...................................................................................................................................................................................................

3 At the BSC terminal, enable the alarm reporting.

...................................................................................................................................................................................................

4 Check if the FIRMWARE-NOT-UP-TO-DATE alarm was reported and for which boards.

If the alarm is:

• Present, it means that a newer firmware version is available and is recommended for

application. Perform Firmware Upgrade from the Alcatel-Lucent 9130 BSC Evolution
