ALBURY PUBLIC SCHOOL PROUD Member of the crossing point learning community Week 7 Term 1 14 March, 2018 Congratulations to the P&C for the Welcome BBQ last Friday evening. We were blessed with another superb autumn day and evening for the event which was pleasant and well worth the effort put in by many. An especially big thank you to Justine and Claire and the band of merry supporters who did the advertising, organised the games, music, sausage sizzle and logistics. The buzz was positive and there were many, great idea, lets do it again sooncomments to be heard. This Thursday I will be meeting with the 12 school leaders to discuss the school plan. These student leaders have been canvassing their peers throughout the school to get a student perspective on the way forward. I look forward to hearing their feedback and words of wisdom. The school plan is slowly coming together and will result in a number of changes to school structures and focus areas. It is a very exciting time to be at Albury Public School. The plan will be available on the school website from Day 1 of Term 2 and will guide our operation for the next three years and beyond. Week 7 Term 1 14 March, 2018

Congratulations to the P&C for the Welcome BBQ last Friday evening. We were blessed with another superb autumn day and evening for the event which was pleasant and well worth the effort put in by many. An especially big thank you to Justine and Claire and the band of merry supporters who did the advertising, organised the games, music, sausage sizzle and logistics. The buzz was positive and there were many, “great idea, let’s do it again soon” comments to be heard.

This Thursday I will be meeting with the 12 school leaders to discuss the school plan. These student leaders have been canvassing their peers throughout the school to get a student perspective on the way forward. I look forward to hearing their

feedback and words of wisdom. The school plan is slowly coming together and will result in a number of changes to school structures and focus areas. It is a very exciting time to be at Albury Public School. The plan will be available on the school website from Day 1 of Term 2 and will guide our operation for the next three years and beyond.

EASTER CELEBRATIONS With Easter approaching the K-2 students and teachers are planning some activities. On Thursday 29 March (Week 9) K – 2 students are invited to participate in the Albury Public School Easter Dance Off. Students from Kindergarten are encouraged to wear an Easter hat for the dance off. Students in Year 1 are encouraged to wear an Easter mask and Year 2 students carry an Easter basket.

Hats, masks and baskets will be made at school with the help from students from a primary class and parents. Students are encouraged to bring in a named bag of materials prior to Friday 23 March to make their Easter hat, mask or basket. Parents/carers are invited to come along and enjoy the Easter dance off, however, older siblings and students in Years 3 – 6 are not invited to participate due to limited space. Parents/carers are asked not to request their older child’s involvement in the Dance Off, including as spectators as this is disruptive to class learning. I appreciate your cooperation with this matter. RIVERINA SWIMMING Good luck to our swimmers who will be competing at the Riverina Swimming Carnival against other schools in the zone. I know you will do your best and congratulations for getting to this level. We are strongly encouraging and reminding students to think of others and to look for opportunities to fill someone’s bucket with happiness. I hope that you have a fabulous week. Lianne Singleton, Principal (Rel)

This year’s Ride2School Day falls on the Gold Cup half-day public holiday. Once again we will have “bike-trains” operating from different parts of Albury. These will be led by teachers. We encourage parents to ride along too, especially if your child has limited experience riding to school. The “bike-trains” will not run in the afternoon. More details about the “bike-trains” will be in next week’s newsletter. Unfortunately there will not be bike mechanics at school on the day. We encourage parents to begin planning and practising safe routes to school and talking to their children about bike safety. Dylan Clift.

CHARLES STURT UNIVERSITY PLACEMENTS Last Wednesday, 8 pre-service teachers from Charles Sturt University (CSU) began their Observation Placement at Albury Public School. These pre-service teachers will be working in Kindergarten and Year 1 classes, one day a week for the next eight weeks. Our school values this partnership with CSU as a way of building and maintaining productive links with our wider community and to assist in the development of the ‘next generation’ of teachers.

IMF Science Investigations In 1MF we have been exploring how materials change. We made spaghetti towers and discussed if it was best to use

cooked or raw spaghetti. We found out raw spaghetti was best because cooked spaghetti was too stretchy and sticky.

The raw spaghetti made our towers more stable and solid.
