With some products, it is not uncommon for the user interface to be in 30 or more languages. Language is therefore a necessary component of exported products. Given that this fact has not been fully recognized, language could be considered a product’s “final component.” Moreover, if a user interface is of poor quality, it can lead to shipment stoppages and other major problems. Provides ideas on expediting UI localization

ALAYA INC.

ALAYA INC. will be exhibiting at the 12th Embedded Systems Expo (ESEC), becoming the first localization

company in the event’s history. At this year’s ESEC, which is being put on by Reed Exhibitions Japan at Tokyo

Big Sight from May 13 to 15, Alaya will present its expertise on creating multilingual embedded systems for

exported products around the theme: “Facilitating Global Success: How to Expedite Localization.”

Language: An Exported Product’s Final ComponentForeign language user interfaces are embedded in home appliances and machinery for export. With some products,

it is not uncommon for the user interface to be in 30 or more languages. Language is therefore a necessary

component of exported products. Given that this fact has not been fully recognized, language could be considered

a product’s “final component.” Moreover, if a user interface is of poor quality, it can lead to shipment stoppages

and other major problems. This is why language is an extremely important part of a product, one that can affect the

fortunes of export companies developing business activities around the world.

Alaya: A Localization Company for the Export IndustryLocalization refers to the process of creating user interfaces and manuals in multiple languages. Since dozens of

languages are often needed, conducting localization efficiently requires specialized knowledge and technologies.

Most export companies thus outsource this process. Localization companies support Japan’s export industry with

specialized know-how, and Alaya is one of the fastest growing companies in the industry.

Simultaneous Global Product Launches with Expedited UI LocalizationBased on its experience in localizing numerous manuals and user interfaces for major home appliance and

machinery manufacturers, Alaya has accumulated localization know-how that draws on both linguistic and IT

expertise. The mission at Alaya is to utilize its unique technologies and experience to provide support for export

companies that are seeking success on overseas markets by building systems for simultaneous worldwide product

launches ahead of their competitors.

Further Growth as “The Localization Innovator”Alaya is seeking to raise the awareness of export companies and embedded systems developers regarding the

importance of localization and the power of its solutions for successful global development. Alaya made the decision

to exhibit at ESEC for the first time to learn about the needs of potential clients firsthand and further improve its

service levels. Everyone at Alaya will work toward making the event an opportunity for further growth as “The

Localization Innovator.”

About LocalizationLocalization refers to the process of translating user interfaces, manuals and other communication materials for

home electronics, industrial machinery and other products into the languages used in the countries and regions

where the products will be sold, while also making changes and improvements to dates, currencies, units and other

notation in line with local custom and practice.

What Makes Alaya Different?Localization companies are usually either printing companies or translation companies. Alaya is the former. In the

translation industry, which is marked by many small companies, Alaya has a staff of 90, three sites in Japan and

four overseas, making it one of the industry’s largest. The company has a translation network covering 50 countries

and regions and develops proprietary tools for improving work efficiency and raising the precision of quality control

processes. As a localization specialist, Alaya is involved in these and a range of other initiatives.

Almost every Alaya staff member directly involved in product production is able to communicate in English. Plus,

more than a few employees are conversant in additional languages.

Alaya’s head office in Tokyo’s Daikanyama district features a red and white design motif throughout, the company’s

corporate colors, and an abundance of artwork. This bright, creative space draws rave reviews from staff and

visiting clients alike.
