emotional intelligence, clarifying purpose, disciplined execution and enhancing mental toughness.

COACHING PHILOSPHY

Alan utilises solution-focused coaching as a vehicle to harness the power of positive psychology

into executive’s lives. He has developed an acclaimed coaching framework called The Solution

Turbine which is highly effective at unleashing leaders (and their teams) toward high

performance. When used with an organisational focus it assists with optimising change, clarifying

strategy, enhancing performance reviews and conflict management etc.

The solution focus is not a traditional expert led coaching approach seeking to help managers

dissect their organisation’s problems and weaknesses, rather it looks at what is wanted instead.

Pointing the solution turbine at the organisation amplifies what is required as well as instilling a

sense of urgency to ensure its delivery. It is not an off-the shelf or ‘one size fits all’ approach as

each organisation (and individual) is different. A main tenet is to view organisations and their

people as the experts on themselves. A solution focus approach involves asking useful questions,

which is simple in essence but not so easy in practice. The solution turbine is there to assist

organisations and their people in realising their full potential - as Lewis E. Platt, former CEO of

Hewlett-Packard, put it, ‘If only HP knew what HP knows we would be three times more

productive”.
