    Magicians and Mentalists. when on stage, do have a blind spotThe eyes of the audience cannot see beyond it even thougn they dosee the location of it which appears most natural. The blindspot is the size of a playing card and is covered by themagician's working hand and fingers. Although small it appearsthat the magician can pull a dozen fat r a b o I t s from it.

    Manipulators make the most of this spot. A gambler canproduce a winning poker hand from it. A card magician can producea whole deck of cards in the shape of a fan. The Mentalist,however, gets the most benefit from it. The Mentalist works withthe mind which has no dimentions. The billet worker can trainhis thumb to create miracles behind the blind s po t",

    CARPUSGRAPHY: The art of writing secretly in the palm of thehand, with a swami gimmick worn on the thumb of the same hand ona card concealed there may be new. The technique to be detailedhere was sought after for many years. The end result was spawnedby the idea behind ACIDUS. WHERE EVERYTHING IS DONE BY ONE HANDthat apparently, to the eyes of your audience, is motionless.

    When the cement dries and the card isfolded, all sections will be glued togetherinto a wad except section A, Fig. 2.

    I use a card, Figs. IA and IB, thatmeas u res 1- 5 / 8th inch by 3- I / 4. This cardisfolded accordion fashion into four sections,A, B, C, and D. As shown in Figs. IA and lB.Sec t ion s BandC, rna r ked withacr 0 s s , aretreated with rubber cement (or any glue).PLUS the undersides of sections C and Darealso treated with rubber cement.

    To accomplish the above!ffect we need to learn thelrt of PALM-WRITING. Wellso need a gimmicked cardthat will hide in palmpositiuon. Let's call thisgimmicked card "C-I."

    Place a trombone paper clip as $hown in Fig. 3. The cliplocks up sec tons B, C and D, (which are rubber cemented together)leaving section A open to do the secret writing in. Nextplace spots of rubber cement on sections A and D, as shown by thesmall crosses in Fig. 4.

    After the spots of rubber cement dry up, if you close downsection A on top of section D (Fig. 4), you will discover thatthe rubber cement will not 'take' as long as the paper clip is inplace. No matter how hard you squeese the wadded billet CI, itwill not seal as long as the paper clip is in place!

    Your gimmicked billet CI is now ready for action.

    PREPARATION: In your writing hand you have anchored the Clbillet as shown in Fig. S. You have your favorite secret writeron the tip of your thumb. Recommended is a boon writer with 1istoblack lead.

    As can be seen in Fig. 5, the CI billet is of a sizebe pinched snuggly between the fingers, leaving the blank

    to write in. If the reader's hands are larger oryou must prepare the Cl billet to fit your hand.

    Fig. 6 shows that the tip of the thumb can very easily reachsection A of the billet for writing. After the writing is done,the CI billet is closed and turned over. )he CI billet as seen bythe audience is shown in F'l g , 7. All looks well so far.

    RECOMMENDED PRESENTATION: You are standing at a streetcorner with some friends, or inside a bank or building, or havingcoffee in a restaurant. You listen for the conversation of yourfriends until someone mentions something unusual. "My niece Nancywas killed yesterday in a car crash" Says one. Or "my daughter hada baby. She is going to name him John."

    Since no one is watching you, you have all the time you needfor doing the secret writing. "Strange that you should say that!"You bud in. "I had a terrible dream last night and saw a fatalcar accident. These things happen to me often. I heard a namementioned. It was Nancy! What a coinci1ence!? and I got outof bed and wrote that name down in this card." You pretend topull the card from your coat pocket. You show the billet so thatit looks to your friends like Fig. 7. "I sealed it solid with glue(do not mention rubber cement).'1'1)

    Here you remove the paper clip and squeeze the billet to sealit. and hand it to your friend. He will have some trouble openingit.

    In the above effect, the wadded billet was kept out of sightuntil produced from the pocket.

    In Blind Spot II A folded index card is in sight from thebeginning.

    We will use an index card that mesures 3 by 5 inches blank onboth sides.

    TO PREPARE THE CARD BEFORE THE SHOW:

    Fold the index card inhalf the long way as seen inFig. 8. Then fold it theopposite way to break thecrease. This is needed onlyfor creasing the card sothat later it will open outeasily for the writing Fig. 8

    Your C2 billet is now ready foraction.

    Replace the bottom paper clip overthree sections of the bottom of thefolded card as seen in Fig. 11.

    Remove the bottom paper clip andmake a tear to form a flap 1/4 thewid tho f the car d. Th is is sh 0 wn in Fig.10. DO NOT USE SCISSORS OR A SHARPKNIFE TO MAKE THE TEAR. You must makethe tear by hand. The tear must be arough one. La ter on you can blame theVIP for tearing the card Nhen openingit.

    NOTE: The rubber-cementcan be used also in thispresent a solid wadded card.

    is sincerely hoped that this treatise starts a new line ofconcerning the nail writer. A new trend. Too many layknow about nail writers these days. So it is well tothe possible presence of one.

    Too many people know that if a magician holdshis hand, writing will surely appear.

    There surely must be another one dozen ways of doingpalm-writing. The reader no doubt can find some. Take a look atFig. 17. Fig. 17 is a floor view of the Mentalist's right hand.

    From above as seen by the audience the hand looks like aclosed fist and it is motionless. An index card that can behidden by the hand is folded accordion fashion and treated withrubber cement. The Mentalist can write easily on the exposed sideof the card. In the Fig. an undernail writer is used.

    One fault with nail-writer writing is that the writingappears very small, cramped up at the edge of the card or in acorner and is hardly legible. If you put on four boon writers oneat each finger tip you could then write clear across the length ofthe card, one letter with each finger. Think about it.
