Dear Parent/Guardians Welcome to the Curriculum newsletter outlining what your child will be studying over the next fortnight at Al Jazeera Academy and also providing some information about the forthcoming Mid Term Assessment Tasks. pupils in Years 7-10. The purpose is to provide an indication of students’ learning and current progress, identifying strengths and areas for development. This will enable teachers to devise suitable work for the individual student as we move towards the End of Year exams.

Unlike the formal End of Semester 1 and End of Year exams the Assessment tasks take place during the normal school week and within normal lessons. There will be no specific timetable though teachers will indicate to their pupils when the tasks are likely to take place. They are part of the regular learning process and we wish to avoid unnecessary disruption to the flow of teaching and learning.

We also confirm the following details:

The relevant Learning Objectives are published on the school website (under Secondary exams)

A proportion of the marks for the Semester (50%) are awarded for classwork, participation and homework to emphasise that learning and assessment happen every day in regular classroom practice and involve both teachers and learners in reflection and dialogue.

Mid Semester 2 tasks will be marked by the subject teacher in each case.

Mid semester 2 Assessment tasks are not standardised across the three Ta’allum schools.

Year 7 will do their assessment tasks online in Arabic, English and Science at the times indicated below. It is essential that all Year 7 students have a working tablet with them at these times.

Sunday, 1st April Period 3 (Y7) Science

Monday, 2nd April Period 3 (Y7) English

Tuesday, 3rd April Period 3 (Y7) Arabic

For Year 11 and 12 students there will be Mock Exams where required. This will enable students to be fully prepared for the actual exams ahead in May and June. Many students have already completed some of their external and IGCSE exams in January. Teachers will notify students where Mock exams are required.

The intended date of publication for the Mid Semester Report card will be

We thank you for your continued support and we wish your child well next week. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you require any further clarification of the detail
