AL-HIDĀYAH PUBLICATIONS Lessons from the Life and Death of Mawlānā Adam Loonat ṣāḥib v by Shaykh-ul-Ḥadīth, Ḥaḍrat Mawlānā Muhammad Saleem Dhorat ḥafiẓahullāh On Sunday 7th October 2018, a gradu- ate of the Islāmic Da‘wah Academy and the principal and head teacher of Al-Hidāyah Foundation, Mawlānā Adam Loonat ṣāḥib v of Walsall, de- parted from this temporary abode to meet His Creator at the age of 34. May Allāh S forgive his shortcomings, ele- vate his status in Jannat-ul-Firdaws and grant him the company of the Ambiyā u, ṣiddīqīn, shuhadā and the ṣāliḥīn. Āmīn. His departure was a surprise to every- one. He had come to meet me just a couple of days before on Friday eve- ning after the weekly majlis. When we met there was nothing to suggest that this would be our last meeting. As a matter of fact, I had never heard of him being afflicted with any sort of illness which required even a blood test or a hospital appointment. Due to his obligations of running the daily evening madrasah, he was never able to reach in time to take part in the tazkiyah programme on Friday, but nevertheless he came and always participated in the ‘informal majlis’. Once someone asked him as to why he would do this, he simply said, ‘For me to see my Shaykh is enough.’ I met him briefly on Friday evening assuming that we would meet again on Sunday at the Annual Youth Con- ference. On Saturday, he held a meet- ing in the morning at his madrasah with regards to taking coaches for the conference and fulfilled all of his other madrasah duties. He performed all of his ṣalāh that day in congrega- tion and then sat down to eat with his family after the ‘Ishā Ṣalāh. Suddenly he started feeling severe pain in his head which eventually led to him col- lapsing. He was taken to hospital im- mediately and diagnosed with brain haemorrhage. The doctors gave him a slim chance of survival. I had already retired to bed when his condition was brought to my knowl- edge by Mawlānā Ahmad ṣāḥib. De- spite ill health and the conference the next day, my heart compelled me to visit my dear student, hence myself, Mawlānā Ahmad ṣāḥib and some of the senior teachers and figures at the IDA: Mawlānā Ayadh ṣāḥib; Muftī Su- layman ṣāḥib; Mawlānā Yasin ṣāḥib; Mawlānā Sulayman ṣāḥib and my dear respected elder brother, Ḥāfiẓ Ahmad Ali left for Walsall and re- turned back at 4:00 am. three things: ṣadaqah jāriyah (charity that continues), ‘ilm from which benefit is derived and a pious child who supplicates for him. May Allāh S look af- ter them, adorn them with ‘ilm and ‘amal and make them true ṣadaqah jāriyah for Mawlānā Adam ṣāḥib. Āmīn. With regards to other forms of ṣadaqah jāriyah, there are two things which will, inshā’allāh, result in con- tinuous reward for him: a) Establishment of an institute, Al- Hidāyah Foundation – Mawlānā established this institute through the Grace of Allāh S in 2011. This institute has been serving the local community from its inception till today. Inshā’allāh Mawlānā will receive a share of all the activities carried out there. b) Mawlānā was the first student in the history of the IDA to recite the entire Qur’ān from memory in one sitting. It was decided that he re- cite the final verses in the 8th An- nual Youth Conference 2001 in or- der to encourage other ḥuffāẓ. Alḥamdulillāh, many other stu- dents of the IDA have since fol- lowed with 41 students this year alone reciting the whole Qur’ān in one sitting. Other institutes may have also started to follow this practice and encourage their stu- dents to achieve the same. In- shā’allāh, Mawlānā Adam ṣāḥib will receive reward for these com- pletions too as Nabī s has said, “He who introduced some good practice in Islām which was followed after him (by people) he would be assured of reward like one who followed it, without their rewards being diminished in any re- spect.” (Muslim) Death can strike at any moment and it does not discriminate between young and old, healthy and sick, rich and poor. Hence we must always be prepared to depart from this world. By living a life of goodness and piety, we will earn a good departure from this world. Similarly, by living a sinful life, we will earn a bad death. Maw- lānā Adam was bestowed with honour through dozens participating in his janāzah and hundreds making du‘ā for him. May Allāh S grant Mawlānā a high status in Jannah, may He grant him a place in the company of the Ambiyā, ṣiddīqīn, shuhadā and the ṣāliḥīn, and may He grant his parents, wife, chil- dren and all other family members good ṣabr and immense reward. Lessons from the Life and Death of Mawlānā

Adam Loonat ṣāḥib v by Shaykh-ul-Ḥadīth, Ḥaḍrat Mawlānā Muhammad Saleem Dhorat ḥafiẓahullāh

On Sunday 7th October 2018, a gradu-ate of the Islāmic Da‘wah Academy and the principal and head teacher of Al-Hidāyah Foundation, Mawlānā

Adam Loonat ṣāḥib v of Walsall, de-parted from this temporary abode to meet His Creator at the age of 34. May Allāh S forgive his shortcomings, ele-vate his status in Jannat-ul-Firdaws and grant him the company of the Ambiyā u, ṣiddīqīn, shuhadā and the ṣāliḥīn. Āmīn.

His departure was a surprise to every-one. He had come to meet me just a couple of days before on Friday eve-ning after the weekly majlis.

Once someone asked him as to why he would do this, he simply said, ‘For me to see my Shaykh is enough.’

I met him briefly on Friday evening assuming that we would meet again on Sunday at the Annual Youth Con-ference. On Saturday, he held a meet-ing in the morning at his madrasah with regards to taking coaches for the conference and fulfilled all of his other madrasah duties. He performed all of his ṣalāh that day in congrega-tion and then sat down to eat with his family after the ‘Ishā Ṣalāh. Suddenly he started feeling severe pain in his head which eventually led to him col-lapsing. He was taken to hospital im-mediately and diagnosed with brain haemorrhage. With regards to children, Mawlānā has left behind four children; the eld-est being seven. May Allāh S look af-ter them, adorn them with ‘ilm and ‘amal and make them true ṣadaqah jāriyah for Mawlānā Adam ṣāḥib. Āmīn.

With regards to other forms of ṣadaqah jāriyah, there are two things which will, inshā’allāh, result in con-tinuous reward for him:

By living a life of goodness and piety, we will earn a good departure from this world. Similarly, by living a sinful life, we will earn a bad death. Maw-lānā Adam was bestowed with honour through dozens participating in his janāzah and hundreds making du‘ā for him.

May Allāh S grant Mawlānā a high status in Jannah, may He grant him a place in the company of the Ambiyā, ṣiddīqīn, shuhadā and the ṣāliḥīn, and may He grant his parents, wife, chil-dren and all other family members good ṣabr and immense reward. Āmīn.

The following day during the confer-ence speech, I encouraged the youth to prepare for the Hereafter and in-formed them that death could strike at any time. It was the will of Allāh S that He made me use Mawlānā Adam ṣāḥib as an example of how death could strike at any moment. As I made mention of Mawlānā, I naturally requested the audience to make du‘ā for his health and also for a good death as only Allāh S knew as to whether he would survive or not, to which thousands of people said ‘Āmīn’. This was a blessing for Maw-lānā.

I had the intention of visiting him straight after the conference, but I was informed that the doctors were slightly optimistic of a recovery and had decided to leave Mawlānā on the life support machine a little longer. After some more checks however, the doctors came to the conclusion that, in their opinion, there was nothing they could do and that Mawlānā should be taken off the ventilating machine and let fate take its course.

A group of teachers and graduates of the IDA, including Muftī Ayyub ṣāḥib, who had left for Walsall straight after the conference in order to visit Maw-lānā Adam ṣāḥib reached the hospital in time and engaged in recitation of the Glorious Qur’ān and dhikr by his bedside. It was a sign of good fortune for Mawlānā that he departed from this world whilst his teachers and col-

leagues were around him praying for him.

Whilst naturally feeling sadness upon the departure of Mawlānā Adam ṣāḥib, I also experienced a feeling of happiness due to the life of piety he had lived and the condition in which he departed. I would like to mention some of the qualities of Mawlānā Adam ṣāḥib which will hopefully prove to be a lesson for all.

1. Preparation for the Hereafter

Mawlānā Muhammad Ali, a graduate of the IDA, shared with me that the wife of Mawlānā Adam said to his wife that Mawlānā has nothing to worry about as he has made his hereafter and left. There is no better person to testify to a person being good than his wife as she is aware of all his good and bad habits. For the wife of Maw-lānā Adam ṣāḥib to say that he has made his Hereafter is a strong testi-mony to the fact that Mawlānā spent his life in a manner which sought to please His Creator.

2. Feeling for others

Mawlānā Ibrahim Esaakji, a respected ‘ālim in Walsall, said that there was a time when he was going through some difficulty. Mawlānā Adam ṣāḥib one day took him out for tea. He later revealed that he did this because he saw Mawlānā Ibrahim looking stressed and so wanted to help to relieve his stress.

3. Not causing inconvenience to any-one

At the time of my last visit to Walsall, Mawlānā had moved in to his own house and it was his desire for me to visit and make du‘ā. We were also scheduled to go to Al-Hidāyah Foun-dation. On the way there, we passed by his house and Mawlānā merely pointed out his house and requested for du‘ā whilst we were sat in the car. Later he informed Mawlānā Ahmad ṣāḥib that even though it was his de-sire for me to visit his home, he de-cided to do what he did as it was al-ready late and he did not want to cause me any inconvenience by ask-ing me to do something which would delay my return to Leicester.

Mawlānā used to travel to other cities to collect donations for his institute. However, he would not contact his friends in that locality so as to not cause them the least inconvenience. The associate would only know of his arrival if they happened to coinciden-tally meet.

4. Love for others and being loved by others

After my father passed away and I re-turned to Darul Uloom Bury, my dear beloved respected teacher, Ḥaḍrat Mawlānā Hashim Ṣāḥib dāmat bara-kātuhum, asked me to describe my fa-ther in one sentence, I replied by say-ing that he left this world in a state that he was neither unhappy with anyone nor did he leave anyone un-happy. Ḥaḍrat Mawlānā said to me, ‘Mawlānā, this is a sign of a very lofty status.’ I can also say the same for

Mawlānā Adam, as this quality was evident in him. A senior ‘ālim of Wal-sall and the imām of Masjid-ul-Faruq, Mawlānā Abdul Awwal ṣāḥib, said re-garding him that he was beloved to all.

5. Humbleness

Mawlānā was a very simple and hum-ble person. He would never argue or quarrel with anyone. Even if someone made a negative remark, he would simply smile and lower his gaze. He always consulted his seniors and sought their guidance. He had no ego that would prevent from consulting even his colleagues. Along with this, even though Mawlānā was leading an institute, there was no sign of pride in him. From the time he was a student at the IDA until my last meeting with him, I did not see any change in his demeanour.

6. Sacrifice for Dīn

One of our graduates, Mawlānā Farhan Vali of London, informed me that Mawlānā Adam ṣāḥib’s practice was that whenever he would go to other cities for collection for his Ma-drasah he would bear all the costs from his own pocket and not take any recompense from the institute’s funds. Thus he would sacrifice both time and money.

7. Ṣadaqah Jāriyah

Rasūlullāh s has said:

When a person passes away, his ac-tions come to an end except for
