Smart Grid: Where Computing, Communication and Power Systems Meet

A talk on 'Smart Grid: Where Computing, Communication and Power Systems Meet' was held on July 4, 2014 for the S5 students of ECE, CSE and EEE. Dr. Sandeep K. Shukla, professor, department o f E l e c t r i c a l a n d C o m p u t e r Engineering, Virginia Tech, USA, IEEE Fellow and an ACM Distinguished Speaker was the resource person.

The vision of a smart grid is predicated on the pervasive use of modern digital communication techniques to today's power system. As wide area measurements and control techniques are being developed and deployed for a more resilient power system, the role of communication network becomes prominent. Power system dynamics are influenced by the communication delays in the network. Therefore, extensive integration of power system and its communication infrastructure mandates that the two systems are studied as a single distributed cyber-physical system. The seminar was informative for the upcoming techies. Dr. Sandeep K. Shukla made the session very interactive.
