Runway markings enhance the visibility of the runway for pilots as they approach for landing. The Kansas Airport Improvement Program will reimburse the City 75% up to a maximum of $15,000 for the project. Staff estimates the project's total cost between $28,000 and $30,000, making the City's share between $13,000 to $15,000. This funding allows the City to leverage its resources to provide much needed maintenance on the runways, which also enhances the safety of incoming pilots. The City of Abilene is grateful to KDOT for its continued investment in the Abilene Municip al Airpor t, says City Manager David Dillner. The program's funding was divided up between twenty-eight projects out of a total of 109 applications submitted. The applications received by KDOT represented over $32 million in total project cost. The City s share will be funded from the Airport budget, which was increased with the approval of the Fiscal Year 2012 budget to provide sufficient funds for maintenance projects such as the runway markings. Qualified contractors interested in submitting bids for this project should contact City Engineer John Gough at (785) 263-3510.
