Installing Modems (AirBox Slide Models Only)

Note:Make sure that the AirBox X2 Slide is turned off before you install yourmodems.

Note:The AirBox X2 Slide has two adjustable modem tracks.

Remove the cover of the AirBox by unscrewing the two knobs located on the rearof the router. After removing the cover, locate the adjustable modem track.Unscrew the modem track by turning it counter clockwise. Slide the knob towardthe routers back edge to allow room for the modem when inserting.

Note:On the AirBox X2 there are two cellular modem card slots. Slot one (cell 1)is the closet to the connectors. Slot two (cell 2) is further away from theconnectors, and closest to the side of the case.

After connecting the proper antenna pigtail to your modem (see below), slideyour modem into theAirBoxs cards slots. Once the modems are inserted, adjust

the modem track knobs and twist to tighten them.

Once your modems have been installed, it should look like the example above.

Changing Antenna Pigtails (AirBox Slide Only)

The AirBox comes standard with antenna pigtails for supported modems. Thesmall end of the pigtail should be inserted into the modem gently. Do not forcethe pigtail into the modem as it could break. If the modems antenna connectionis on the side of the modem (Novatel 720, Pantech PX-500, UT Starcom PC

5750, etc.) then the industrial black elastic (included) should be used to keep theantenna pigtail on the modem. The included black elastic can also be used tokeep a SIM card inside the modem as well.

When changing pigtails for other types of modems, the entire case top can beremoved by removing the screws on the sides of the case. Replace the pigtail forthe given modem using two 9/16 wrenches to remove and installthe new pigtail, and put back the case top.

CAUTION: Never operate the AirBox with loose pigtails that are not attached! This could damage the motherboard or cause dangerous shorts. All antenna

pigtails should be secured to the case, connected to modems, and any unusedpigtails should be removed from the router or secured in the black clips inside.

Low Profile Antenna:The low profile antenna mounts to the inside of a windowor windshield. Remove adhesive and mount the antenna to a flat clean surface.Be sure to mount the low profile antenna vertically.

Magnetic Mount Antenna:Mount to a metal surface for a ground plane. Keepvertical.

Trunk Mount:Select a location on the trunk for mounting the antenna. Slide thetrunk mount bracket on the trunk or hood lid in the selected location, and tightenthe two set screws on the bottom lip underneath the trunk or hood with an Allenwrench. Route the cable between mount and AirBox location. Screw antenna coilinto place. Drilling holes in metal ground planes (roof, etc) will help yourantenna get the best signal strength.

Marine Mount: Mount fiberglass antenna as high as possible. Place signalbooster (optional) in between antenna and AirBox. Always mount AirBox in a cool

    dry place.

    Mounting Options

There are mounting brackets included with your purchase of the AirBox. You mayscrew these L brackets into the sides of the AirBox to mount it to a flat, cleansurface. If you do not want to drill permanent holes, you can use heavy-dutyadhesives available at any hardware store. We would recommend mounting the

AirBox in an accessible area, for swapping modems and access to antenna

connections. Additionally, the WiFi antenna and cellular antennas should not beobstructed.

    Optional GPS Receiver

The permanent mount or magnetic-mount GPS receiver should be mounted onthe outside of a vehicle for the best satellite reception. Use the GPS power portand plug directly on the back of the unit.Note:For CM3 models, the receiver must be plugged into the Y-cable.

    GPS Tracking Options

If you purchased a Control Room Module with your Router and GPS, login tohttp://control.waav.com with your WAAV Control Room username and password. If you do not know or have lost your username and password, contact yourWAAV representative and they will be able to assist you.

Note:Please make sure that the GPS Enable icon is selected. GPS will not workwithout this being active. Reboot router if there were changes made.

    GPS FTP Option

GPS FTP allows you to put an XML file with GPS coordinates on the ftp server ofyour choice. You can then run a program on that computer that can parse the

    data for custom applications.

    Dynamic DNS

Dynamic DNS is used to find the IP address of a device that

does not have static IP address. This is done by setting a DNS

name that will resolve to a changing or non-static IP address. To

set your AirBox to talk to the proper Dynamic DNS service

provider use the Dynamic DNS Settings page in the web admin

tool. You will need to register an account with a dynamic DNS

provider. This is set per interface on multiple connection

    models.

    Content Filtering (Transit Edition Only)

To enable content filtering select OpenDNS from the drop down menu and insertthe Device ID given to you by WAAV for your content filtering selections.

    Port Forwarding

Port forwarding is used to access a device behind the AirBox from the Internet.Such devices include IP cameras (different from video encoders - see below),DVRs, etc. Set port forwarding in the port forwarding page of the web admintool.Note - Some network operators drop common ports such as port 80. You canbypass this issue by mapping another incoming port such as 8080 the internalport 80 address.

    Firewall Configuration

Limit & Allow Web Admin Access

Allow web admin access over cellular (not enabled by default). Thisuses the alternate port 9229 to get around certain carriers droppingport 80 traffic. This also requires mobile termination at the carrierlevel, something many GSM carriers do not allow by default.

Allow web admin over WiFi (enabled by default). This should be turnedoff for any public hotspot deployments.

Allow GPS on cellular will enable the GPSD daemon to listen oncellular.

    UDP Load Balancing

Disabled Outgoing UDP packets are treated in streams. This is thedefault and should be kept unless using a specialized application.

Adaptive Outgoing UDP packets will be split dynamically overuplinks based on available upload bandwidth.

Alternating Outgoing UDP packets are balanced over the outgoingcellular interfaces on an exact every other / round robin configuration.

Random Outgoing UDP packets are balanced over the outgoinginterfaces in a random fashion of short flows.

Note: Outbound TCP data is treated as TCP streams and balancedover the connections on a stream-by- stream basis. A stream is aconnection between a source IP address port and a destination IPaddress port. Each stream will get the bandwidth of only one link.

    14/17

    13

Proportional Bandwidth QoS (Transit Edition Only)

This feature gives all the WiFi users an even experience.

Total Bandwidthshould be set to the estimated total downlink availableon all combined cellular interfaces. For example, on a single connection

AirBox that averages 2Mbps down, this would be set to 2000. On a dualconnection AirBox that averages 2Mbps on each link this should be set to4000 or 4Mbps.

Rate should be set to thelimit per user when all slots are full (a lot ofusers).

Limit should be set to the max per user when there is additionalbandwidth available.
