How Much Does It Cost?
Virginia residents• $145.25 per credit
Non-Virginia residents• Out of state :
– $340.00 per credit
• Military contract-out of state : – $160.75 per credit
• Business contract-out of state : – $220.75 per credit
• AIR courses are 3 or 4 credits eachPlus textbooks and safety glasses

How Long is Each Course?
• 16 week semester• Course meetings – one class per week• 4 to 5 hours long– Class time is usually half lecture, half lab.

How many courses should I take?
• If you are already working full-time:– We recommend only 1 or 2 courses per semester
• If you want to go to NOVA full-time: – We recommend 16 to 18 credits per semester

Must I get a certificate or degree?
• No, you may take whatever courses you like.– However, employers like certificates and degrees
• First level is a Career Studies Certificate– Five AIR program courses, one elective
• Second level is A/C and Refrigeration Certificate– One more AIR course, English, Physics or Math, elective
• The Associate Degree (a 2-year college degree)– Six more AIR courses, three electives

How much study time outside each class?
• About 1 hour per week for each course credit.– Example: a 3-credit course requires 3 hours of
study per week• This is an average depending on your study habits• The Student Development (SDV 100) course teaches
study skills, test taking, and more.

How soon can I get a job in HVAC?
• When you have the basic skills for HVACR – Employers prefer a Career Studies Certificate: • Two courses in Air Conditioning & Refrigeration• Two courses in Electricity & Controls• One course in Basic Heating Systems

Is there financial aid available?
• Yes, apply at the financial aid office– Many NOVA students are receiving financial help
• Most employers help pay for learning– They cover your tuition to continue HVACR studies
