    8071. Tem porary grade of colonel in th e Air Fo rce : appointment of womenThe President may appoint one female Air Force officer to be onactive duty in the temporary grade of colonel in the Air Force forfour years, unless the appointm ent is sooner term inated. Ho wever, except for a female officer retired in the grade of colonel and

    recalled to active duty in that grade, only one appointment may bein effect at a time . Th is section does not lim it the auth ori ty to prom otewomen designated under section 8067 of this title to the temporarygrade of colonel.8072. Jud ge Advocate Gen eral: appointm ent; duties

    (a) There is a Judge Advocate General in the Air Force, whois appointed by the President, by and with the advice and consentof the Sen ate , from officers of the A ir F orce. The term of office isfour years, but may be sooner terminated or extended by the President. A n appointee who holds a lower regu lar grad e shall be appointed in the regu lar grad e of major general.(b) The Judge Advocate General of the Air Force shall be ap- ointed from those officers who at the time of appointment are mem-ers of the bar of a Federal court or the highest court of a State orTerritory, and who have had at least eight years of experience inlegal du ties as commissioned officers.(c) Th e Ju dg e Advo cate General shall, in addition to other dutiesprescribed by law(1) receive, revise, and have recorded the proceedings of cou rtsof inquiry and m ilitary com missions; and(2) perform such other legal duties as may be directed by th eSecretary of the A ir Forc e.8074.
