Message from the Prez . . .May has been one of those up and down months. Westarted out with our drive and eat to Andover wherewe were treated to a buffet of roast beef and chicken. Thanks Rex and Candy for the scenic drive that tookus to dinner.

The following weekend 27 cars participated in theRiver Festival parade to support our sponsor JimHattan as he continued his obligation as Admiral WindWagon Smith. Jim was very thankful for the great turnout of cars.

I was told by one of the members who went to Texasthat it was a great event and it was too bad I missed it(again). Seems that the event gets bigger and bettereach year.

This month we also lost one of our current memberswho had been an active participant in many club

events. Ken McGrew passed away on May 19.Several members were able to attend a memorialservice on May 24 driving their corvettes by request ofhis family. Gene Brown introduced his very special guest Jerry Salter whoco-founded Air Capital Corvette Club with him. The motion was made andpassed to accept the minutes as printed. Vice President – Greg Esping reported we still have 58 paid members. Treasurer – Jack Crossman reported $683.86 in checking and $1288.45 insavings. Officer at Large – Lin Smith reported the points standings: 1st Battaglears,2nd Espings, 3rd Michaels, 4th Mehls, 5th Rans. Secretary – Marsha Battaglear had no report.NCCC Governor – Gary Jones was absent. (He gave- in to the Siren Songof the Grand Canyon).Newsletter – Kent Michael invited anyone who had old pictures to sharewith him. He also is including them in the newsletter.

Old Business Marsha Battaglear gave the club an up-date on the search for a place forthe Friday night Social. Discussion was initiated regarding the wishes of theclub as to whether we wanted an informal or formal social on the Fridaynight of our Anniversary Celebration. Most members in attendancepreferred an in-side facility vs. a park shelter because of the “unknown”Kansas weather. Daryl Burbach made a motion with a preface; that sincethe committee was comprised of responsible individuals; the AnniversaryCommittee should be given the pre-approval to spend as much money asnecessary (around $500.00 or whatever it takes) to secure an acceptablevenue for the social. The motion was seconded by Don Crigler and passed.Matt Hoofer asked for the money to order the anniversary banner. Themotion was made and seconded. The club asked that Don HattanChevrolet’s name be added to the banner and all literature. The motion waspassed as amended. The least said about the Buster’s Run the better. The drive through the GypHills made it all worthwhile for some of us though.Monte stated that he had visited with Ron Britt and the trip to Abilene is set.If we plan to go to Brookville we will need to get a count and decidewhether we will take the morning or afternoon train. Kent Michael then gave information on the River Festival parade. Although many members scrambled to get copies of theirinsurance in by the deadline, Kent had to admit that he recently found out that club insurance was sufficient. Jim Hattanpaid our $100.00 entry fee. Five buttons were included. Since all participants must wear a button, a drawing wasconducted to distribute the “free” buttons among parade participants. Rex Corbin, Dick Volkman, Kent Michael, MonteRans, and Gene Brown were the lucky recipients. Kent gave instructions on where the staging area would be and theparade route. We will meet at Don Hattan at 4:30 and caravan to the staging area. Wear your club shirt. We had some discussion on the possible trip to the Salt Mines in Hutchinson. Because of their rules we cannot set up atime as a club. The motion was made and passed to set up a time and let everyone make their own reservations ifinterested. The date is Aug. 25th and the time is 2:10pm or 2:30pm.

New BusinessLake Afton is June 10th and accommodations are the same as last year.We discussed the importance of getting the entries in for the Zoo Father’s Day Car Show as a group and to write “CorvetteClub” for club affiliation. We will invite Southwinds to be with us. Kevin gave us information on the Corvette Museum’s Alaskan Cruise. It sails May 30 and has an elective extended landtour. Daryl suggested we do a drive-by for Ken McGrew. He will check with Jean. Mike McKee announced that he will be ordering more T-shirts if anyone is interested.Jay Wohlgemuth won the 50/50 pot.Randy King won the door prize. The meeting was adjoiurned. Secretary,Marsha Battaglear

We also discussed resurrecting and revising therecruiting letter. We also could update the new member letter. Marsha, Kent and Greg will work on them. JimHattan used to give a 10% discount to members who showed their cards. Monte will check to see if this is stilltrue Kent also mentioned that we used to give a free membership to anyone who bought a Corvette from thedealership as a goodwill gesture. That was clarified to be an associate membership for one year. We wouldneed to check with Jim Hattan to see if he was interested.

Old Business

Monte has talked to Ron Britt and our Abilenetrip is set. We are still searching for a venue forthe anniversary celebration. There was somediscussion as to possible places that had notbeen called. All other trips are on track. Marshamentioned that the Salt Mines trip did not workout because of the many restrictions on groups. After discussion we decided to drop the idea andallow members to make their own reservationsas individuals; we would not arrange it as agroup. We also decided rather amusingly thatthere will be no more Busters runs.

New Business

We discussed the importance of getting theentries in for the Zoo Father’s Day Car Show. You get four free tickets with a registration madeby June 1st.

The up-coming t r ips a re s t i l l a “go” fo rBloomington, Vettes on the Rockies andFlagstaff. Our club will extend an invitation toSouthwinds members to join us if interested.

The meeting was adjourned.
