Generally, when patent application is filed to two or more countries based on the Paris Convention for Protection of Industrial Property, these patents and patent applications form a "patent family."

In the upper model, P-2 and P-3 have P-1 as a common priority number. P-4 and P-5 have P-2 as a common priority number. P-6 has P-3 as a priority number.

The patent family that AIPN defines is explained based on the upper model.

1) When you use the application number P-1 or the priority number P-1 as a search key:

P-1, P-2, and P-3 form a patent family. 1) When you use the application number P-2 or the priority number P-2 as a search key:

P-2, P-3, P-4 and P-5 form a patent family.
