Hotchkiss Word has been received here of the death of Dr. Walter T. Hotchkiss, 69, of 5763 North Bay Road, Miami Beach, Fla. unex- pectedly on Sunday (Dec. 26, 1965). A native of Jamestown, he was s the son of the late Dr. W.W. and Mrs. Hotchkiss of James- town and a graduate of James- town High School Class of 1915. He had resided in Miami Beach since 1926, going there from Cleveland, Ohio, and-was one of the first eye, ear, nose and throat doctors in Miami Beach. A graduate aU0ne University of Michigan Medical School, he was-a former president of the Miami Hard of Hearing Society; the American College of Sur- geons; and the Southeastern Group of Otolarynhology; the Dade County, Fla., and Ameri- can Medical' Associations; and the Coast Guard Auxiliary. , Surviving are a son, Walter T. Cheek, 84, of 625 Prendergast Ave v widow of Thomas Cheek, died at 5:15 a.m. Sunday (Jan. 2, I960) in W.C.A. Hospital. Mrs. Cheek was born May 17, 1681, near Franklin, Pa. to Noah and Clara Barr Jackson. She had been an entertainer in her early life, singing in addition to composing songs: Later she was employed as a companion and nurse. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Mary Critoph, Sarasota, Fla.; three grandchildren, Mrs. Clover DeMarr Jenkins, Cleve- land, Ohio, Morten Williams and Francis Williams, both of Jamestown; 12 great grandchil- dren; two brothers, Lee R. Brooks Funeral services for Mark H. Brooks, 70, of 515 W. 4th St., were heid at 3 p.m. today at the Henderson-Lincoln Chapel. The Very Rev. Canon George F. O'Pray, rector of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, officiated. Burial was in Sunset Hill Ceme- tery. Mr. Brooks died at 8:45 a.m. Friday (Dec! 31, 1985) at the Veterans Hospital in Buffalo aft- er an illness of several months. He had been a patient much of the time at the WCA Hospital. Mr. Brooks was born in Corry Pa., May 19, 1895, the son of Mark H. and Mertie Williams Brooks Sr. He was a veteran of World War I, serving overseas with the 28th Division of Com- pany A, United States Army. He was a member of Earl Morley Barracks, Veterans of World War I, and of John W. Tiffany Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States* He had been manager of the Smith Boys Store and was em- ployed in the Jamestown Area by the Goodyear Rubber and Tire Co. for 25 years before his retirement about five years ago. His marriage to the former Dorothy, Schnell, well known musician,' took place Feb.* 6, 1922,,in Ripley. They had resid- ed in the Erie area until 1939 when they moved to Jamestown. Mr. Brooks was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church; Mt. Moriah Lodge, F. & A.M.; Jamestown Consistory, Scottish Rite; Empire State Association of the Blind; and of Jamestown Moose Lodge. He belonged to the Golden Age Society and was on the board of directors of the Senior Citizens Center and of the Good Neighbor Society. Volunteering his time at the Veterans Hospital in Buffalo, the Dunkirk County Home, North Warren and Gowanda State Hospitals and the Senior Citizens Center, Mr. Brooks led the group singing and sang solos. He became well enough acquainted, with the talents of members of his audiences to call on them to participate in the programs. He was generous in providing transportation to the out of town hospitals. Besides his wife, Dorothy Brooks, Mr. Brooks is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Lillian M. Holdsworth of s Lakewood; three grandchildren, Dorothy, TJianne and Mark Holdsworth, also of Lakewood; a sister, Mrs. Ger- trude Bell of Erie, Pa.; a niece, Mrs. Russell Vaughn of James- town and several other nieces and nephews in Erie and Corry, Pa. , .. , Mrs. Norman Lind Mrs. Luella M. Lind, 45, of 11 Highland Ave., Lakewood, died al 10:50 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 1, 1966) in Roswell Park Memorial Institution, Buffalo. She was the wife of Norman C. Lind. Mrs. Lind was bom in Farm- ingdale, Long Island, Sept. 19, 1920, the daughter of Fred W. and Margaret Hanson Otten. She had resided in this area most of her life. She was confirmed in the Bethel Lutheran Church. She assisted her husband in the management of Linds Fruit Bas- ket in Lakewood. Survivors, besides her hus- band, are a son, Richard C. Lind, airman third class serving in Libya; a daughter, Mrs. Nor- ma Stone, East Aurora, N.Y;,- two grandsons, Brian and Mark Stone of East Aurora; a brother, Fred Otten of Celoron; five sis- ters, Mrs. Blanche Layman, Jamestown; Mrs. Silpha Bivona, Gerry; Miss Frances Otten, Randolph; Miss Cora Otten, White Plains, and Mrs. Bernice Winston, San Rafael, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. McGrew was the daugh- ter of George and Josephine Chatfield, members of a prom- inent Jamestown family. She was born and educated in Jamestown and had lived for many years in Parkersburg, W.Va. Besides her husband, Mrs. Mc- Grew is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Mary Jo Mullenix and three grandchildren, all in Park- ersburg; a brother, Walter Chatfield, Albion, N.Y.; a neph- ew, Dr. George Sisson, noted Syracuse physician, and a niece, Mrs. Carlyle Schumacher, Short Hills, N.J. Her sister, Mrs. Alberta Sis- son died in July, 1964. Services and burial took place today in Parkersburg. Lawrence R. Myers Lawrence R. Myers, 66, of 329 Crossman St., formerly of 604 Murray Ave., died at 6 a.m. to- day (Jan. 3, 1966) at W.C.A. Hospital. Mr. Myers retired a year ago' having worked at Jamestown Units Parts and for- merly had been a partner in the Service Station Supply Co. He was born in Kenton, Ohio, March 27, 1899, the son of Fred A. and Emma Sheffstall Myers. He had resided in Jamestown most of his life until his retire- ment when he moved to Largo, Fla. In June of 1965 he returned to Jamestown because of illness. He was a member of First Covenant Church; and the Unit- ed Commercial Travelers. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Beatrice C. She lived in Frewsburg until 1925, when she moved to Clymer and had been a resident of Jamestown the past 10 years. Surviving are several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Claude Martin, Homesdale, Pa., in 1952, and George Martin of Frewsburg in 1954. He was born April 14, 1908, the son of Charles and Amanda Lundquist Swanson, in Russell, Pa. and lived there most of his life Survivors are his wife, Faye Prittyman Swanson; a son, Frank Swanson of Findley Lake; seven daughters, Mrs. Charles Panebianco and Mrs. Dons Swan of Jamestown; Mrs. Charles Briggs of Stow; Miss Bertha Swanson, Miss Beatrice Swanson, Mrs. Bertha Frye and Miss Vernice Swanson of Ash- ville; two step-daughters, Amel- ia Pangborn and Arlene Pang- born of Vowinckel; and 16 grandchildren. Mary P. Dangelo Mrs. Mary Paterniti Dangelo, 71, a former Jamestown resi- dent, died unexpectedly at her home, 2445 Lynwood Ave., Niag- ara Falls, at 2 a.m. Sunday (Jan. 2, 1966). She was the wife of Louis Dangelo. During her residency in Jamestown, Mrs. Dangelo was a member of St. James Roman Catholic Church. She left this city about 34 years ago. She was the daughter of Frank and Josephine Comita Cacca- mise. Besides her husband, Mrs. Dangelo is survived by four sons, Mathew Paterniti,' Capt. Frank Paterniti of the Niagara Falls Police Department, Antho- ny Dangelo and Louis Dangelo Jr., all of Niagara Falls; a daughter, Mrs. Vincent Barone, Sanborn, N.Y.; a sister, Mrs. Fred V. Landy, Jamestown; two brothers, Russell Caccamise and Charles R. Caccamise, both of Jamestown, and a number of nieces and nephews in James- town. Riley, died at 11 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 1, 1061) in the Warren General Hospital follow- ing a short illness. Born Nov. 6, 1896 in Kane, Pa., she had resided in Russell for the past 19 years. Prior to retiring seven years ago, she had been employed as an occu- pational therapist at the Warren State Hospital for 11 years. She was a member of the Trinity Memorial Episcopal Church; and the Russell Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. Her hus- band died in 1945. Surviving are a son, Dr. George W. A stone mason by trade, Mr. Niles worked for the Allegany State Park Commission during the construction of the park and later was self-employed, retiring 13 years ago. Active in Boy Scouting foi many years, Mr. Anderson was scoutmaster of troop 2 of Celo- ron for 15 years and later as- sistant scoutmaster of Troop 65 of Bethel Lutheran Churcn. For his outstanding work in scouting he was awarded the Silver Beaver. Mr. Anderson was a former member of the Celoron District School Board and served as coach at Celoron High School. He coached the undefeated six man football team of 1943. Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Wayne Anderson and Barry Anderson of Celoron; two daughters, Mrs. Beverly Eck- strom, W. Mrs. Wing was born Sept. 2, 1898, in Jamestown to Gust A. and Jennie Hedlund Anderson and attended schools in this city. For 17 years she was in charge of the kitchen at the Gustavus Adolphus Home. Lat- er she was employed in the kitchens at The Town Club, The Warner Home for the Aged and the Agnes Home. Mrs. Wing was a member and past commander of the Robert P. Illig Post, 47, Disabled Amer- ican Veterans Auxiliary. She also belonged to the Immanue! Lutheran Church and spent her lifetime in Jamestown. Her husband died May 8, 1926.     Dr. W. T. Hotchkiss Word has been received here

    of the death of Dr. Walter T. Hotchkiss, 69, of 5763 North Bay Road, Miami Beach, Fla. unex-pectedly on Sunday (Dec. 26, 1965).

    A native of Jamestown, he was sthe son of the late Dr. W.W. and Mrs. Hotchkiss of James-town and a graduate of James-town High School Class of 1915.

    He had resided in Miami Beach since 1926, going there from Cleveland, Ohio, and-was one of the first eye, ear, nose and throat doctors in Miami Beach.

    A graduate aU0ne University of Michigan Medical School, he was-a former president of the Miami Hard of Hearing Society; the American College of Sur-geons; and the Southeastern Group of Otolarynhology; the Dade County, Fla., and Ameri-can Medical' Associations; and the Coast Guard Auxiliary. ,

    Surviving are a son, Walter T. Hotchkiss 2d, Miami; and a brother, Dr. Robert S. Hotch-kiss, New York City.

    Tha Philbrick-Vickers Miami Shores Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

    Laura L. Cheek Mrs. Laura L. Cheek, 84, of

    625 Prendergast Avev widow of Thomas Cheek, died at 5:15 a.m. Sunday (Jan. 2, I960) in W.C.A. Hospital.

    Mrs. Cheek was born May 17, 1681, near Franklin, Pa. to Noah and Clara Barr Jackson. She had been an entertainer in her early life, singing in addition to composing songs: Later she was employed as a companion and nurse.

    Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Mary Critoph, Sarasota, Fla.; three grandchildren, Mrs. Clover DeMarr Jenkins, Cleve-land, Ohio, Morten Williams and Francis Williams, both of Jamestown; 12 great grandchil-dren; two brothers, Lee R. Jackson, Franklin, Pa. and G. Andrew Jackson, Rock Hill, N.Y.; a sister, Mrs. Royal Gil-key, Ithaca, and several nieces and., nephews.

    Committal services will be held at II a.m. Tuesday at the family lot in Pine Hill Cemetery, Falconer. The Rev. Phillip W. Schlick, pastor of Falconer Methodist Church, will officiate. Powers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

    Mrs. Ada Waterman RIPLEY - Mrs. Ada Water-

    man, 84, of West Main Street died Saturday night (Jan. 1, 1966) at the Caldwell Nursing Home in Westfield after a long illness. She was the widow of Milton Waterman.

    * Mrs. Waterman was born

    Jan. 18, 1880, in Ripley, a daugh-ter of Daniel and Lenora Stetson Forbes. She had lived in Ripley all her life and belonged to the Ripley Baptist Church.

    Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Florence Hurst of Sher-man; three sons, Fred Water-man of Dunkirk; Perry Water, man and Paul Waterman of Ripley; 16 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.

    Friends may call at Mathews Funeral Home in Ripley from i to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday.

    Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the fu-neral home with the Rev. Claude Eggleston of the Ripley Baptist Church officiating. Buri-al will be in East Ripley.Ceme-tery.

    Grew, of Parkersburg, W.Va., c former Jamestown resident and wife of Clyde McGrew, died at the University Hospital, Colum-bus, Ohio, New Years Day 1966.

    Mrs. McGrew was the daugh-ter of George and Josephine Chatfield, members of a prom-inent Jamestown family. She was born and educated in Jamestown and had lived for many years in Parkersburg, W.Va.

    Besides her husband, Mrs. Mc-Grew is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Mary Jo Mullenix and three grandchildren, all in Park-ersburg; a brother, Walter Chatfield, Albion, N.Y.; a neph-ew, Dr. George Sisson, noted Syracuse physician, and a niece, Mrs. Carlyle Schumacher, Short Hills, N.J.

    Her sister, Mrs. Alberta Sis-son died in July, 1964.

    Services and burial took place today in Parkersburg.

    Crossman St., formerly of 604 Murray Ave., died at 6 a.m. to-day (Jan. 3, 1966) at W.C.A. Hospital. Mr. Myers retired a year ago' having worked at Jamestown Units Parts and for-merly had been a partner in the Service Station Supply Co.

    He was born in Kenton, Ohio, March 27, 1899, the son of Fred A. and Emma Sheffstall Myers. He had resided in Jamestown most of his life until his retire-ment when he moved to Largo, Fla. In June of 1965 he returned to Jamestown because of illness.

    He was a member of First Covenant Church; and the Unit-ed Commercial Travelers.

    Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Beatrice C. Peterson Myers; one step-son, Robert S. Olson, and one grandson, Jeffrey Olson, both of Jamestown. ' Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Hen-derson-Lincoln Funeral Home. The Rev. Paul W. Peterson of First Covenant Church, will of-ficiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.

    Mrs. Eva Martin Smith Mrs. Eva Martin Smith, 63, of

    128 Chandler St., died at 3 a.m. today (Jan. 3, 1966) in W.C.A. Hospital.

    She was born Opt. 16, 1902, in the Town of Carroll, the daugh-ter of George and Hattie Pang-born Martin. She lived in Frewsburg until 1925, when she moved to Clymer and had been a resident of Jamestown the past 10 years.

    Surviving are several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Claude Martin, Homesdale, Pa., in 1952, and George Martin of Frewsburg in 1954.

    Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Pe-terson Funeral Home, Frews-burg. The Rev. Stanley Smith, pastor of Frewsburg Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Ceme-tery.

    He was born in Jamestown, July 6, 1924, the son of Carl T. and Hazel A. Smith Hanson.

    Surviving are his father of the Falconer address; one brother, C. Calvin Hanson, Falconer; two sisters, Miss Mary A. Hanson, Falconer, and Mrs. William Baudy, Jamestown.

    hir, 80, of Chautauqua Road, Fredonia, died unexpectedly Sunday morning (Jan. 2, 1966) at his home. He formerly worked for the Kling Furniture Co., Brocton, as a machine oper-ator, prior to his retirement.

    He was born in West Portland, Oct. 1, 1885, the son of John and Mary Gibb Mawhir.

    Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Irene Hillbert, Dunkirk; three sons, Minford J. Mawhir Jr., Westfield, George Mawhir, Moravia, N.Y., and Donald Mawhir, Mayville; 13 grandchil-dren; 12 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Agnes Yon-kers, Mayville, Mrs. Anna Morse, Fredonia, Mabel How-ard, Brocton, and Mrs. Mildred Hopwood, Westfield.

    Floyd Hurd COTTAGE—Floyd Hurd, 78, a

    resident of this community, died Friday (Dec. 31, 1965). He was a retired farmer.

    He was bom Oct. 22, 1887, in the Town of Dayton, the son of Wilber and Josephine Merrill Hurd. He was a member of the Cottage Grange.

    Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Minnie Hurd; three daughters, Mrs. Wilbur Moss, Cottage, Mrs. Herbert Wells, Albany, Ga., and Mrs. George Nobles, South Dayton; one son, Walter Wallen, Derby; one brother, Ward Hurd, Otto; and nine grandchildren. ??

    71, a former Jamestown resi-dent, died unexpectedly at her home, 2445 Lynwood Ave., Niag-ara Falls, at 2 a.m. Sunday (Jan. 2, 1966). She was the wife of Louis Dangelo.

    During her residency in Jamestown, Mrs. Dangelo was a member of St. James Roman Catholic Church. She left this city about 34 years ago.

    She was the daughter of Frank and Josephine Comita Cacca-mise.

    Besides her husband, Mrs. Dangelo is survived by four sons, Mathew Paterniti,' Capt. Frank Paterniti of the Niagara Falls Police Department, Antho-ny Dangelo and Louis Dangelo Jr., all of Niagara Falls; a daughter, Mrs. Vincent Barone, Sanborn, N.Y.; a sister, Mrs. Fred V. Landy, Jamestown; two brothers, Russell Caccamise and Charles R. Caccamise, both of Jamestown, and a number of nieces and nephews in James-town.

    vieve Riley, 69, 100 Conewango Ave., Russell, Pa., widow of George W. Riley, died at 11 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 1, 1061) in the Warren General Hospital follow-ing a short illness.

    Born Nov. 6, 1896 in Kane, Pa., she had resided in Russell for the past 19 years. Prior to retiring seven years ago, she had been employed as an occu-pational therapist at the Warren State Hospital for 11 years. She was a member of the Trinity Memorial Episcopal Church; and the Russell Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. Her hus-band died in 1945.

    Surviving are a son, Dr. George W. Riley, i Russell; two granddaughters; a brother, Howard Mayers, Warren; three sisters, Mrs. Merle Schulze, Kane; Mrs. Maud Russell, Rus-sell; and Mrs. Edith Clenenger, Kenmore, N.Y.

    T. Atchison, 68, of 212 Main St., died Saturday (Jan. 1, 1966) in the Sun Coast Orthopedic Hospi-tal, Largo, Fla. She was the wife of William S. Atchison.

    She was born Aug. 19, 1897, in Brocton, the daughter of George and Harriet Miller Thompson. She was married to James Stewart in 1917 in Winnepeg, Canada. He died in 1938. In 1940 she was married to Mr. Atchi-son.

    She had been a resident of Jamestown for many years pri-or to moving to Randolph in 1940.

    Surviving are her husband; one son, Ross Stewart, Roches-ter; two step-daughters, Mrs. Lois Baird, Elmira, and Mrs. Ann Lester, Larkspur, Calif.; two grandsons, James Stewart, Rochester, and William Baird, Elmira: and one sister, Mrs Nina Potter of Texas.

    Claude Niles FREWSBURG—Claude Niles,

    72, of R.D. I, died Sunday morn-ing (Jan. 2, 1966).

    He was born in Onoville, March 21, 1893, the son of Al-mond and Emeretta Cole Niles. A stone mason by trade, Mr. Niles worked for the Allegany State Park Commission during the construction of the park and later was self-employed, retiring 13 years ago.

    Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lillian Abbey Niles, to whom he was married Nov. 25, 1918; two sons, Elton Niles, Frews-burg, and Donald Niles, Kenne-dy; one daughter, Mrs. Leon Gleockler, Ellicottville; seven grandchildren; one brother, Peary Niles, Frewsburg; two sisters, Mrs. Adessa Bennett, Warren, Pa., and Mrs. Carmon Jackson, Russell, Pa.

    of 312 Lafayette St. died Satur-day (Jan- I, 1966) in James-town General Hospital. She was the wife of Franklin D. Newber-ry, who died Feb. 28, 1961.

    A resident of Jamestown since 1910, she was born in Bradford, Pa. Sept. 17, 1891, a daughter of Henry and Gertrude Dew«y O'Connell. Mrs. Newberry was a member of St. Lukes Episco-pal Church.

    Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Arnold Benson; a grand-daughter, Mrs. Sandra Wimmer, and two great grandchildren, all of Rutherford, N.J.; also a sis-ter-in-law Mrs. Florence E. An-derson, Jamestown.

    A resident of Celoron for | years, Mr. Anderson was boi in Greensburg, Pa., Oct. 2 1913, a son of August and Joha: na Nelson Anderson. After con ing to Jamestown Mr. Anderso made his home with a siste Mrs. Carl Seiberg, until his mai riage 28 years ago to the forme Lucille Gotts.

    Mr. Anderson was employe for 26 years by Seiberg Dair\ two years by Lake County Dair and at present was an employi of Ring Punch and Die Co. H< was a member of Bethel Luther an Church, the Bethel Church men and a former member o the church council. He was alsc a member of the Fraternal Or der of Eagles and United Com mercial Travelers.

    Active in Boy Scouting foi many years, Mr. Anderson was scoutmaster of troop 2 of Celo-ron for 15 years and later as-sistant scoutmaster of Troop 65 of Bethel Lutheran Churcn. For his outstanding work in scouting he was awarded the Silver Beaver.

    Mr. Anderson was a former member of the Celoron District School Board and served as coach at Celoron High School. He coached the undefeated six man football team of 1943.

    Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Wayne Anderson and Barry Anderson of Celoron; two daughters, Mrs. Beverly Eck-strom, W. Milton, Ohio and Bar-bara Anderson, Celoron; three grandsons, Michael Anderso'i, Randall Anderson and David An-derson; and four brothers, Albin Anderson, Walter Anderson, and Paul Anderson, all of Greens-burg, Pa.; and Harold Anderson of Saltsburg, Pa.; three sisters, Mrs. Minnie Bateman, Lake-wood; Mrs. Carl Seiberg, Baker St. Ext., and Mrs. Albert Ander-son, Greensburg, Pa.; several nieces and nephews.

    A sister, Mrs. Hildur Baird, died in 1950.

    356# E. 4th St., the widow of W. Morris Wing, died at 3:15 p.m. New Year's Day 1966 in Jamestown General Hospital.

    Mrs. Wing was born Sept. 2, 1898, in Jamestown to Gust A. and Jennie Hedlund Anderson and attended schools in this city. For 17 years she was in charge of the kitchen at the Gustavus Adolphus Home. Lat-er she was employed in the kitchens at The Town Club, The Warner Home for the Aged and the Agnes Home.

    Mrs. Wing was a member and past commander of the Robert P. Illig Post, 47, Disabled Amer-ican Veterans Auxiliary. She also belonged to the Immanue! Lutheran Church and spent her lifetime in Jamestown.

    Her husband died May 8, 1926. Surviving are a brother, Abert

    T. Anderson, Dania, Fla.; a niece, Mrs. Sally L. Blair, Greenhurst; three nephews, Paul T. Anderson, Greenhurst, .'"ichard O. Anderson, James-town, and William Wright, Ken-more.

    ST. CHARLES, 111. (UPI) -Funeral services will be held today for noted graphic artist Ralph F. Seymour, 89, who was killed in a traffic accident Friday. Seymour was publisher of Real Estate Magazine and was well known for the design and printing of books.

    CHICAGO (UPI) — Funeral services will be conducted today for Mrs. Esther Kurgans, 83, mother-in-law of United Nations Ambassador Arthur Goldberg. She died Friday night, three weeks after under-going surgery.
