CRITICAL THINKING

Working independently, generate a list of as many characteristics of critical thinking and behaviors of a critical thinker as possible.

Working independently, review your list and determine the TOP FIVE characteristics/behaviors.

Working in a small group, compare your TOP FIVE lists, noting similarities and differences. Create a SUPER TOP FIVE list. Post each item on your list to AnswerGarden.

Higher Order Thinking

• …is HOT!• …can be learned.• …can be improved with practice.• …can be improved with practice for both

children and adults.• …should be practiced often in all of our

schools, all of our classes, with all of our students

25

More about HOT…

• No one thinks perfectly or poorly all the time. • Memorizing something is not the same as thinking

about it. • You can memorize something without understanding

it. • Thinking is done in both words and pictures. • Thinking is useful in our everyday lives. • You can improve your thinking skills by understanding

the processes involved in thinking. • Metacognition-thinking about thinking-is part of

higher order thinking.
