AIG Computer Services Limited was
established in 1982 as an IBM mid-range
software house specialising in high quality
consultancy and systems development.
Under the leadership of managing director,
Dave Farr, the company went on, in 1990, to
pioneer significant developments in the
AS/400 and Client/Server environments;
notably the delivery of many of the first
Client/Server applications for the AS/400.
Today, whilst retaining its original
objectives of delivering high quality systems
design and development, AIG is also now
highly focussed on the provision of strategic
and technical consultancy to existing and
new customers in the Client/Server and
AS/400 arenas.

AIG has always been at the forefront of software
implementation for mid-range systems, represented
today by the IBM AS/400. The company's success has
been recognised by numerous accolades, including its
appointment to develop a product under licence for IBM.
In the early 90s, we broadened our technology base; the
Client/Server division quickly matched the achievements
of its AS/400 counterpart. Together, they participated in
the development of SOLUS/DDM - a product which, by
setting the standard for AS/400 to PC connectivity, is
today delivering performance benefits worldwide. Our
Client/Server projects have incorporated a wide range of
databases and operating systems, extending our
capabilities with products such as Microsoft SQLServer,
IBM DB2, Sybase, Oracle and Microsoft Windows NT.
AIG has a comprehensive appreciation of the highly
specialised requirements of companies operating across
diverse markets. Our experience has been enhanced by
strategic partnerships with both industry colleagues and
clients alike. As a consequence, AIG has gained expertise
in software systems for the financial sector and for
manufacturing by working with the leading
software vendors in these fields. Similarly,
our knowledge of wholesaling and retailing
has been honed by assisting FMCG (fast
moving consumer goods) clients to identify
and develop their EDI (electronic data
interchange) systems.
As a result, we have developed specialist
solutions across all commercial sectors
including applications for banking, petro
chemicals, commodity trading, drinks,
publishing, property management, manufacturing, fleet
management, travel, shipping and many more. Services
include not only systems consultancy, project
management, design and development, but also legacy
maintenance, outsourcing, rightsizing, EDI, user training
and quality audits.
JH^J'^ observer with a wider perspective, national boundaries are invisible. Increasingly, they
present less of a barrier to trade - and thus force increased market competition. For success in
tomorrow's world, companies must be prepared to do business wherever opportunities arise and
constantly strive for a unique business 'edge' in the markets they enter
the experience to build success...
AIG continues to set industry standards in the design of
systems capable of supporting the operations of
multinational customers both in-country and around the
world. By addressing the issues of multiple currencies,
multiple languages and cross-border trading, AIG has
been viewed with favour by industry partners such as IBM
and Powersoft for international projects. Working with
these and other organisations, AIG has assisted a number
of corporations in the United States and Canada, and
more recently in Asia and the Middle East.

With new SOLUS/DDM you can achieve performance
improvements of more than 1000% over SQL or ODBC, even
when accessing single records. These improvements are even
more significant when you're accessing multiple records. For
example, to validate a screen you might need 8 separate lookups,
using ODBC or SQL this could take as long as 16 seconds; validating
the same number of lookups with SOLUS/DDM will take you less than
a second.
And, because it has the flexibility to co-exist with SQL and ODBC without
impacting their performance, SOLUS/DDM gives you the best of both worlds
— outstanding performance whatever your data volume.
Truly Open Environment
Originally ciesigned as a PC router for SQL Windows, the latest
version of SOLUS/DDM works with any development tool that
supports Microsoft Windows DLLs including PowerBuilder, Visual
Basic, Developer 2000, CDE, Delphi, C++, SQL Windows and more;
letting you take advantage of your existing technology investment and
achieve massive performance improvements at the same time.
Plus, SOLUS/DDM comes with a hypertext help facility and Tast
Start' demo applications for popular development tools like
Powersoft's PowerBuilder, Microsoft Visual Basic and Centura
(Gupta) SQL Windows, so if you're not already familiar with
SOLUS/DDM, you'll be up and running in no time.
International Language Support eluding Double-byte Character Sets
SQLUS/DDM 2.0 handles all national languages seamlessly, including
double-byte character sets, so whether you're developing for Telford,
Tokyo, Turin or the world, you can write all of your PC-based applications
without having to worry about code page conversions on the AS/400.
^ Advanced Management Capabilities
SOLUS/DDM 2.0 comes with a number of additional built-in features
specifically designed to simplify and streamline the management of
your AS/400. Like OS/400 level check support to minimise file and
data corruption by your PC users, and full run-time error handling to
reduce the number of errors you need to code before taking your
applications live. What's more, because SOLUS/DDM uses the native
architecture of the AS/400, you won't need to write additional
programs on your host to retrieve data to a PC, so it's much easier to
manage and there's no overhead on your AS/400.
SOLUS/DDM Highlights # More than 10 times the performance
of ODBC/SQL
# Supports all development tools that use IVIicrosoft Windows DLLs
# Will co-exist with other routers without negatively effecting performance
% Single CPU charge regardless of size
9 Full run-time error handling for smoother operation
# No Host Code requirements eliminate the need for additional programming on the AS/400
9 OS/400 level check support minimises the risk of data corruption
% Fast Start demo applications for Powersoft PowerBuilder, Microsoft Visual Basic and Centura (Gupta) SQL Windows are included with sample code
% Double-byte character support provides no-worry language conversion
9 Local cache of file definitions for fast file access
Minimum System Requirements • AS/400 - OS/400 version 2 release 3
or later
• PC Support/400, CA/400 or NetSoft
# PC-IBM compatible 386 with 4MB RAM
# DOS 5.0 or later
