Information is the seed for an idea, and only grows when it's watered.Heinz. V Bergen.
Information is the most important fundamental for development. Before you can proceed with your goals
that can link with AIESEC; you have to know what AIESEC provide and which pathway you can step on.
AIESEC Emergence Day was held to convey information about AIESEC in more details to potential
members and also to provide activities for members that are being recruited to interact with each other.
Briefly introduction about the departments available was presented by each Vice President respectively
and simulation for certain department was shown
for clearer picture.
The best part of this event was all of the new
recruited members were playing the AIESEC Gamewhich is a team building game that relates on every
department in AIESEC and how the departments are
working together to build and sustain on our organi-
zation.
After this event has ended, we officially opened the
application for the Leadership Opportunity to our
newly recruited members.

First AIESEC Gathering
It was our first ever AIESEC Gathering for the term 2011/12.
It was also our first time ever to record such high number of
participants attended in the AIESEC Gathering. We were
grateful to have our current and new AIESECers attended
this event.
In this event as well, we started to mix around between eachother in this session called the EDDIE FM. We were having a several current world and national
issues to discuss in small group and afterwards shared their opinion regarding these issues to
everyone.
In this gathering as well, all of us were writing on our short and long
term goals that wanted be achieved in future in a piece of paper.
Writing it down making it more realistic and defined our goals
clearer. Whether our goals can be achieved or not, it all depend on
our own! After that, all the papers were collected and will be
returned to them by the end of the semester for them to review on
their own goals set by themselves in the beginning of the semester.
Afterwards, we were having the rewards and recognition to our
Member of the Month for the month of July and August. For the month
of July, it was rewarded to Chin Ee Mei, Organizing Committee
President of RED Wave Initiative through her amazing contribution to
our AIESEC in UUM for the month of July.
Meanwhile, for the month of August, it was rewarded to Lim Han Wei,
Manager of Non-Corporate Relations for her excellent performance in the month of August and
shown a great supporting to her team during the semester break.
Lastly, the most exciting slot for the AIESEC Gathering was the announcement for the Team
Member Programme results. We had 75 applicants applied for the
positions in the Team Member Programme and it was a tough
decision for us to select 43 applicants into the positions. Our
Executive Board members were very excited and curious to work
with the new faces that were freshly selected.

Karri Takki, Our Beloved Intern
Karri Takki was our first intern for Berjaya University College of Hospitality in Kuala
Lumpur. He started his internship in Malaysia from May 2010 until May 2011. Here
is his testimonial after his one year internship in Malaysia.
1. Your working experience in BERJAYA UCH (what was your responsibilities)
I was working at BERJAYA University College of Hospitality (BERJAYA UCH) as a trainee in the Mar-keting Department. My work included; managing the front desk, arranging campus tours and events,
assisting in administrative tasks, attending road shows and educational exhibitions in Kuala Lumpur
and all over the Malaysia. I also had chance to coordinate one Corporate Social Responsibility project
together with my immediate superior.
2. The working culture in BERJAYA UCH
Working at BERJAYA UCH was a very interesting experience.
The Marketing team where I worked with was like a small family-
where everyone was considered more or less an equal. My
colleagues were very funny people and it was easy to get along
with them. Even sometimes on the road shows or at exhibitions
days were long, we still kept joking and laughing together.
The Director of Marketing and Sales was very open to hear ideas and opinions from anyone. Sometimes
the Director would come to me and ask for my opinion on advertisement posters or ideas for marketing
strategies. I was surprised how easy it was to approach the Management. I felt totally free to express my
ideas and opinions: Also dealing with the rest of the Senior Management was easier than I expected -
based what I knew about Asian working culture and hierarchy in companies. The culture in the BER-
JAYA UCH was totally opposite compared to what I had expected from
Asian corporations.
I expected conservative and hierarchic environment, but I experienced a
very dynamic, professional and relaxed environment to work in. Even the
Chief Operating Officer was very warm and easy to approach person and
my immediate Supervisor became such a close friend to me that we were
able to have open conversations and make very personal jokes of each
other. Who

would expect to work as a trainee in an Asian company and say to
your immediate supervisor Your idea totally sucks! (and not getting
fired after that!).
3. What you enjoyed about working at BERJAYA UCH
Definitely the people and chance to travel all over the Malaysia for e
xhibitions and schools visits!
4. What you liked about Malaysia
Malaysia is a multicultural country where many Asian cultures are
cohabiting. In Malaysia I liked the chance to experience all the
different cultures. I also loved the location of Kuala Lumpur, middle of Southeast Asia which
made it easy to travel around on my free time.
5. Why did you choose BERJAYA UCH (through AIESEC) to do your internship.
I chose AIESEC as it was my next obvious step in my @XP. After four years in AIESEC; two years
as a member in HR team, one year as Vice President of Talent Management and one year as a
Local Committee President, my options was to continue my @XP and either apply for Member
Committee or go for an exchange programme.
I chose the internship programme, as I expected it to be more useful for my career path. I was
offered place at BERJAYA UCH by AIESEC Malaysia, but I was in doubt as the job description
stated that they require someone with in the hospitality background and is able to speak
Mandarin or Indonesian. I didnt have either one of these skills, but after talking with TN
manager from AIESEC Malaysia, I decided to pursue this option. Though I was coming from a
very different educational background with my engineering studies (Industrial Marketing,International Business Management and Energy Technology), I thought that working in a very
different industry like in hospitality education could be a very good learning experience for me.
And it was a good experience overall! Sekarang saya bercakap sedikit bahasa! (Translation: I can
now speak a little bit of Malay language!)
AIESEC in UUM, thanks Karri for his job well done throughout his one year internship in
Malaysia. We wish him all the best in his future undertakings. You will be always in our hearts.

Another 150 students of Universiti Utara Malaysia
