Project name: Balya Background: BALYA is a free home for orphan/destitute children, established by Annapoorna Charitable Trust, which provides shelter, education, healthcare, food and other day-to-day needs for these children. Balya is presently in a rented accommodation of about 2500 sq. feet distributed in two floors at 162, Manganhalli Cross, Ullal Main Road, Bangalore, 560056. Presently there are 55 children accommodated in this premises out of which 30 are Boys and 25 are Girls. The premises where the children are currently accommodated has a capacity for 50 children with some difficulty. The Trust is planning to accommodate many more orphan children in the years to come and to cater to this need, it is planning to have its own bigger premises. This project has been supported by AID Cincinnati since 2011. Amount approved: $9000 2. Project name: SPS (Samaj Parivartan Samudaya) Background: Samaj Parivartana Samudaya (SPS) is a voluntary organization working in rural and Tribal areas of India for over 25 years, focusing on empowerment of the rural poor. Community Control over Natural Resources for protection, development and judicious utilization of these natural resources; focus on meeting livelihood needs of the marginalized sections; and self-rule (empowerment of Gram Sabha and Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs)) have been the major focus of the activities of SPS. The SPS project has also, in the previous years, filed PILs in the Supreme Court against illegal mining in parts of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, eventually leading to a stay on illegal mining by the Reddy brothers in the region. This project has been supported by AID Cincinnati since 2003. Amount Approved: $8900 3. Project name: Malur Project Background: Malur Project is a project started by Jai Shri Krishna Charitable Trust, an NGO started with the objective to render social service to the population of local and surrounding remote villages with the following objectives: · to provide free medical aid by monitoring BP, ECG and Blood Sugar · to provide free medicines to these patients This project was taken up by AID Cincinnati in 2012 Amount Approved: $12923 4. 4. Project Name: Vijaynagaram Project

Background: The Mithila Vidyalayam (Angirasa) is a private school run under the

CIRCLE of GOODWILL to provide free education to the children of poor people. It was

established in 2002 and follows the State Government syllabus. Besides free education,

all the students are provided with two sets of uniform, slates, books and snacks.

Presently, education is provided up to 5th grade but the administration is planning to

upgrade up to 7th grade initially and then finally to 10th grade. The school is being

maintained by service oriented people and by collecting donations.

Current number of teachers: 6

Strength of the students: 124

Expected number of students:170

Teachers needed: 13

This project was taken up by AID Cincinnati in 2012 and this is one of the projects we

will continue to support in the coming year.
