SAKG NEWS

This fortnight in the kitchen, we are continuing to use our harvest of Jerusalem artichokes plus our preserved olives which were harvested earlier in the year. We are using a wide selection of herbs and rocket from the garden, as well as our increasing harvest of lemons. I would like thank all our parents and other volunteers finding the time to assist in the kitchen, despite recent changes to days and times for certain classes due to production rehearsals, etc. Your support is always greatly appreciated. I hope to see you in the kitchen. Thanks Gregg

PROFESSOR MATHS - ’PROBLEMS TO PONDER’ Jumpy Jacks Mr. Seymour had to pack some food for his students for an excursion. He had red and green apples. He gave each student 1 red and 1 green apple. He had 10 students. How many apples did he give in total? Dorset Dazzlers! Mr. Buultjens was organising cooking for the grade 1/2 students. He needed to give each student 3 small cherry tomatoes to cut up. There were 15 students in the class. How many cherry tomatoes did he need to hand out? Next level Geniuses! Miss Young was asked how many students she had in her grade today. She couldn’t remember but she knew that she had just given out 6 pieces of carrot to each student in her grade to promote healthy eating. She started off with 80 pieces of carrot and she had 14 pieces of carrot leftover. How many students were in her grade that day? Any Day Einsteins! Mr. Jones had just ordered fresh Italian pasta for his grade to celebrate cultural diversity. There was 2.4kg of pasta in total. 1/4 of the pasta was spiral pasta. 1/3 of the pasta was spaghetti. The rest was macaroni. How many grams of macaroni was there?

CHAPLAIN’S CHAT WITH DAVE

So what are friends for? More than you might imagine. Everyone should have at least one good friend in their life, because friends provide things we all need. Perspective. A friend can help us see things in a different light. We all have days where we feel lost and confused, and a good friend can provide fresh ideas and an approach we may not have considered. Friends also provide company and comfort—especially when things aren’t going our way. When we need someone to laugh or cry with, a good friend is always there with a willing ear and a dry shoulder. And friends provide accountability. They keep us in line when we veer off course, and can even help us during times of crisis. When we fall, they’re always there to pick us back up. So if you don’t have a good friend, get one. It’s something no one should be without.

EARN AND LEARN PROGRAM The ‘earn and learn’ program at Woolworth shopping centre begins

on 26th July. Anyone from the school community – staff, parents,

grandparents, neighbours and friends – who shop at Woolworths

can collect stickers. Here’s how it works:

1. Shop: Anyone can earn a sticker for every $10 spent at

Woolworths between 26th July until the 19th September.

2. Stick: Complete a sticker sheet.

3. Give back: Sticker sheets can be dropped into a collection box at

your school or local Woolworths before 19th September.

Depending on how many stickers we collect as a community, we

may then be able to use those stickers to choose items from Modern

Teaching Aids. They are Australia’s largest

supplier of resources to schools. This means our

school can choose resources based on specific

needs, across all curriculum areas, including

Maths, English, Science, Art and Craft, Digital

Technologies, Sports and more. Every sticker

counts and your support is always appreciated!

BREAKFAST CLUB Breakfast Club is on in the staffroom every morning before school. Students from all year levels love to attend and have some toast and a milo before they go to class. With the increasing number of students attending we are in need of some more supplies. Bread and margarine donations are always more than appreciated! We are happy to accept any bread, Woolworths and Coles brand sandwich/toast bread is perfect. The children also love their milo and strawberry jam or vegemite. If you would like to make a donation please hand it in to the office. We are so appreciative of your support as it allows us to continue this before-school club. If you would like to volunteer a morning every now and then helping out with breakfast club please let the office know. We are always in need of more helpers!
