The Agua Nueva Water Reclamaon Facility (WRF) replaces the now-decommissioned Roger Road Wastewater Treatment Facility. The Agua Nueva WRF has a capacity of 32 million gallons a day (MGD). RWRD decreased the amount of nutrients (ammonia and nitrogen) in the reclaimed water produced at the Agua Nueva WRF. The facility meets new water higher quality standards for discharge into the Santa Cruz River and provides an improved and higher quality reclaimed water to the City of Tucson’s Reclaimed Water System. The project delivery method - Design Build Operate - saved Pima County more than $75 million in construcon costs. The Agua Nueva WRF is owned by Pima County but will be operated by CH2MHill for 15 years. At the end of 15 years, Pima County has the right to extend CH2MHill’s contract for an addional five years or take over operaons of the facility.
