INTERVIEW | MR. VIJAY IYER
MAxiMize AtM UptiMe With SecUrevAlUe
In 2012, Securevalue India Ltd., was incorporated as a Cash Management
Services company and wholly owned subsidiary of AGS Transact
Technologies. In just 2.5 years, Securevalue has crossed servicing more
than 10,000+ ATMs. In an exclusive interview, Mr. Vijay Iyer discusses the
company’s focus and growth strategy with Sandeep Kannan:
Securevalue has achieved the landmark of cash servicing of more than 10,000 ATMs. How do you plan to increase this number? In the coming year FY16, we have plans to increase
our geographical presence in the states of Gujarat,
HP and UP. In addition, we have signed contracts
with various MSP/IAD/WLA operators and will start
servicing their ATMs soon.
Has Securevalue set any target for FY: 2015-16? Is this achievable, considering your presence across 15 locations in India? We are in the process of setting up the target. We
will increase our geographical footprint of vault
from the current 15 to 50.
What have been the recent trends in the cash management sector which have been noticed in the Indian Banking Sector?Cash Management services company have
recently formed a Cash Logistic Association (CLA)
primarily to ensure they engage with the concerned
regulators, industry bodies and other stake holders
to ensure formulation and implementation of the
guidelines.
What is your edge or your value addition vis-à-vis other cash management agencies? We have a world class vaulting and secured
processing area. Our SOPs are audited and
approved by the renowned bankers and security
Our operations ensure maximum ATMs are up with Cash CLM, combining FLM + Basic SLM enabling maximum ATM uptime.

experts. We start operations before dawn,
which benefits the bank to load their ATMs in
the shortest possible time without causing any
inconvenience to the customers. And, we ensure
our maximum machines are up with Cash CLM,
combining FLM + Basic SLM so that the uptime
of the ATM is maximized.
Lastly, our SVIL audit team comprising of
Managers and supervisors ensure that all the
ATMs/Retail customer points are audited once
in a month and ensure that the process is
adhered every time. Apart from the internal
team, external company audits the process/
operations from time to time.
Who are your customers? Our customers include Banks, Retailers,
Managed Service Providers, Individual ATM
deployers, White Label ATM companies.
What is your view of the recent home ministry diktat that cash van security companies should have 51% Indian shareholding? We welcome the view of the ministry. We at
SVIL have more than 51% Indian shareholding.
However, this will be a stumbling block for the
Multinational companies who plan to enter
India and work as a majority stakeholder.
What are the new areas where you see
developments in Cash Management in the Indian scenario? In India, currency processing is predominantly
done by Bank and we see a huge potential in
this area. Banks are thinking of outsourcing the
activity and we feel there will be a huge scope for
CIT companies in supporting Banks to effectively
render the services and ensure sufficient
processed cash is available within the system.
Introduction of Intelligent Cash Deposit (ICD)
for Retailers – with the introduction of these
machines the CIT companies can collect cash any
time during the day and bring the sealed bags to
the vault for processing. This will also ensure the
customers get a real time credit in their account.
The machine also has the capability to detect
counterfeit currency.
What according to you are the critical concern areas that need to be addressed in this area?Banks/MSPs/WLA operators need to ensure all
the ATMs are fitted with One Time combination
(OTC) lock and get rid of the manual / electronic
lock. The traditional method of doing cash
replenishment through an ADD cash method to
be changed to Cassette swap method. Banks/
MSPs/ WLA operators need to ensure that the
reconciliation of transaction need to done within
3/4 days and ensure there are no transactions
pending for reconciliation. Currently, this is a
burning issue with all the CIT companies.
The SVIL mission:
To be the preffered
partner in Cash
Management
Services and
Secure Logistics
by providing
Reliable, Safe
and Customized
solutions that are
delivered on time,
every time.
The SVIL assurance:
We offer Complete
Line Maintenance
that supports our
clients with the
highest levels of
efficiency.

COVER STORY | MOBILE PAYMENTS – THE CASHLESS FUTURE
During the last decade or so, India has made steady progress in the field of electronic
payments. The innovations in this area have leveraged major technological
developments of each era. With the usage of smartphones and gadgets continuously
rising, there is tremendous growth potential for retail electronic payments being
made on mobile phones.
According to research firm IDC, India is the fastest growing smartphone market in
the Asia Pacific region with about 72.5 million units sold in the third quarter of 2014,
representing a 15% quarter-on-quarter growth. India’s online payments industry has
witnessed a compound annual growth rate of 50% between 2007-2014.
Mobile devices have become the favourite among consumers for more than just
communication. An increasing number of people now use smartphones to shop
both online and offline, as well as find various sources of entertainment and connect
with friends and family throughout the world. Mobile payments have become quite
popular due to the adoption of mobile technology.
Payments are driven by customer demands of convenience, ease of use, access, and
with the future of payment transactions being cashless, or probably cardless, mobile
payments will probably witness explosive growth.
Mobile payments are gaining popularity with more and more consumers using this
platform to buy tickets, pay bills, shop online, and transfer funds. The opportunity to
expand reach, grow revenues and gain operating efficiencies have also persuaded
several banks to encourage their customers in doing their transactions through
mobile devices.

ROLE OF NPCI ON CASHLESS PAYMENTSEstablished in 2008, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has
produced a unified payment interface API, which can be used by banks,
merchants, and other institutional entities to support mobile transactions. The
API is designed to make it easier for businesses to connect with consumers that
have become reliant on mobile devices.
NPCI is introducing a new payment system which is meant to provide a
unified infrastructure for organizations interested in mobile payments. Using
this system, businesses will be able to receive money from a mobile device
using a single identifier such as a phone number or virtual payment address.
The success of the new payment system could bring more attention to the
mobile payments space.
The new system is expected to make mobile payments in India more
convenient than they already are and NPCI is preparing to launch the new
system in the middle of 2015. Its success could add further momentum to
the growth of India’s mobile payments sector, which has been receiving
strong support from retailers throughout the country.
TRENDS IN 2015-16The future of digital banking is being shaped by the increase in use of
Mobile wallets. In FY: 2015-16, Mobile Wallets are projected to become
more common for a variety of consumer services. Mobile applications that
support transactions are likely to become more common and consumers
are expected to rely more on the payment applications when they are
shopping. In the coming years, online and offline retailers are also expected
to place additional focus on mobile and digital spaces in the hope of
connecting with more consumers.
COVER STORY | MOBILE PAYMENTS – THE CASHLESS FUTURE
“With growing number in usage of smartphones, mobile payments will lead the future of payments in India. It can transform the lives of people with latest digital payment advancements whether it is for utility bills, fund transfers or retail payments”Mr. Stanley Johnson, President – Transaction Business
“As far as Mobile Payments are concerned, I believe Near Field Communication (NFC) will open the floodgates for profound changes in the way we use our mobile devices.
It will dominate the way consumers secure coupons and deliver payments and our phones will become our wallets. If retailers are not using mobile marketing to attract
new customers till now, this is the right time to invest”.Mr. Surya Singh, Head – Retail Business

PLAYERS IN MOBILE PAYMENTSOver the last few years, new companies and systems have emerged on
the payments landscape, each has brought in newer technologies and
improvements on the payments experience, including easier access to
payments networks that include payment gateways and online wallet
services.
The latest to enter the space is India Transact Services Limited (ITSL), a
wholly owned subsidiary of AGS Transact Technologies Limited, providing
payment solutions for diverse applications. The solution provided by ITSL
caters to the requirements of both consumers and retailers. As a policy,
ITSL is aiming to help create a ‘less cash’ society by providing solutions for
electronification of transactions.
To be able to do so on a mass scale, each stakeholder must see value and
ease of use for them in the solution provided, to be able to embrace it.
This is something ITSL is focused on and the wide range of services and
solutions that they offer in the electronic transaction space testifies their
goal. mWallet and mPOS solutions offers include options for the young
generation who are adept at using a smartphone as well as for traditional
