§ Gujarat holds the highest share in total fish production in the country with 22.35% share during 2006-07
§ Gujarat imparts 30.71% to nation’s marine exports in quantity and 15.12% in value terms

Fisheries: Major Initiatives § With a separate leasing policy, there is a provision of allotment of state
owned land to multi-national companies
§ Provisions are made by Government of Gujarat in the leasing policy for
village ponds land. Some of them are:
ü Leasing period is 10 years
ü Leasing procedure is carried out by F.F.D.A.
ü Concerned village Panchayat is responsible for providing lease
for fish culture
ü Lease amount is paid to the respective Panchayat after
deducting expenditure
§ VAT reimbursement scheme: Fisheries department provides diesel on a
subsidized rate (VAT is paid by the fisheries department)
§ Jaynti Rohu seeds are introduced for an enhanced fish production
§ Financial assistance to the farmers/fishermen
§ To provide information about the latest development in the Aquaculture,
periodical workshops are arranged in the selected FFDAs
§ As per Fisherman Group Accident Insurance scheme, incase of
accidental death, premium is being paid by the government.
