About Women Science CongressThe role of women in society is vital for itsprogress and their contribution to thedevelopment of knowledge base and use oftechnology is essential if the millenniumchallenges are to be met. Women have madeimportant contributions in all walks of lifeand made in roads into new fields of scienceand technology. Women constitute 50% ofhuman resource thus contributing a majorstrength, the socio-economic developmentof the country. According to recent survey, the enrollment of Women to persueeducation in Science and Technology is equalto men, however only 8% of them continuetheir career in Science after education. Thereis need to narrow down this gap and utilizepotentiality of women who could do wondersin Science. The participation of women is stillrestricted and limited because of widespreaddiscrimination at the basic education level andlack of opportunities for pursuing science asa career, predominantly in rural areas, wherethey will f ind it diff icult to participate inscience owing to the formidable barriers thatstand in their way such as harsh livingconditions, religious traditions, negativeattitude arising from the orthodox etc. In thiscontext, the Women Science Congressprovides an excellent platform to presentwomen achievers from all walks of life toshare ideas and experiences to motivate theyounger women to actively participate inscience to identify and find simpler solutionsthrough Science and Technology.
