160 aos dur la construccin de sta iglesia (1.605-1.765), considerada como el mejor ejemplo del Barroco Quiteo. Su impresionante fachada tallada en piedra es la puerta de ingreso a su extraordinario interior decorado con 7 toneladas de oro.

160 years lasted the construction of this church (1.605-1.765); considered the best example of the Baroque style in Quito. Its impressive facade carved in stone is the entrance to its extraordinary interior decorated with 7 tons of gold leaf.

Iglesia deEl Sagrario

Pequea Iglesia construida en el siglo XVIII y ubicada junto a la Catedral de Quito. Merecen especial atencin su fachada exterior construida en piedra y en el interior la mampara con decoracin Barroca y los frescos de su cpula.

Small Church constructed in the 18th century and located next to the Cathedral of Quito. Special attention deserves its stone faade, the Baroque style interior door and the Frescos paintings of its cupola.

Quito en la mitad del mundo latitud 000

En 1.736, es decir hace ya 276 aos se realiza la primera Misin Geodsica Francesa con el objetivo de medir el arco de meridiano de la tierra. Estos estudios permitieron determinar la Latitud Cero grados, Cero minutos y Cero segundos (0 - 0 - 0), misma que divide al planeta en dos Hemisferios: Norte y Sur.

Las investigaciones terminaron en 1.745 y partir de entonces se empez a llamar a los alrededores de la ciudad de Quito Las Tierras del Ecuador en alusin a su ubicacin en el centro de la Tierra.

Mucho antes de eso, los Quitus, antiguos habitantes de estas tierras conocan a este sitio como el Inti-an o Camino del Sol haciendo referencia a la ruta que recorre el sol desde que sale hasta que se oculta. Actualmente en este sitio ahora conocido como La Mitad del Mundo se encuentra un Complejo de varios atractivos donde se destaca el monumento localizado en la Lnea Ecuatorial en la Latitud 0 - 0 - 0 y que se ha convertido en un cono no solo de la ciudad de Quito sino en general del Ecuador y sitio obligado de visita a 15 km. de Quito y a una altura de 2.483 msnm (8.146 pies).

Se destacan en este complejo:Monumento a la Mitad del Mundo & Museo Etnogrfico

Su icnica forma piramidalcuadrangular con cuatro monolitos en los ngulos, tiene la orientacin geogrfica de los cuatro puntos cardinales y representa la lnea que pasa por diversos pases y continentes del mundo y de los cuales solo uno lleva su nombre La Repblica del Ecuador.

Se destaca una esfera metlica que representa la Tierra, con sus 5 continentes y sus mares en alto y bajo relieve. Esta esfera tiene un dimetro de 4.5 metros.

Al interior del Monumento se encuentra el Museo que cuenta con informacin acerca de la riqueza cultural del Ecuador a travs de la recreacin de las diversas nacionalidades y culturas existentes en las diferentes provincias del pas de acuerdo a las cuatro regiones naturales.

Quito Colonial en MiniaturaExhibe en su interior la rplica del Centro Histrico de Quito; trabajo que requiri una extensa investigacin de campo, fotografa area y de casa en casa a lo largo de 9 aos. Una reproduccin exacta de 140 manzanas, a una escala de 1 a 200 cm.

These studies allowed determining the Latitude Zero degrees, Zero minutes and Zero seconds (0 - 0 - 0 ), which divides the Earth into two hemispheres: the Northern and the southern one.

The Investigations ended at 1,745, and thereafter the outskirts of the city of Quito started to be recognized as The lands of the Equator line referring to its location in the center of the Earth.

Long before that, the Quitus, ancient inhabitants of these lands have known this site as the Inti-Nan or Path of the Sun making reference to the course of the Sun from the Sunrise to the Sunset.

Currently on this site now known as The Middle of the world you will find a complex of several attractions where stands the Monument located on the Equatorial line at Latitude 0 - 0 - 0 and that has become an icon not only of the city of Quito but in general of Ecuador and a must-see place 15 km. North from Quito at an altitude of 2.483 m. (8.146 feet).

Some of its main attractions are: Monument to The Middle of the World & Ethnographic MuseumIts iconic pyramid-square shape with four monoliths in the angles has the geographical orientation of the four cardinal points and represents the line that passes through various countries and continents of the world and of which only one is named The Republic of Ecuador.

A metallic sphere representing the Earth, with its 5 continents and their seas in high and low relief stands out. This area has a diameter of 4.5 meters.

Inside this Monument you will find a Museum that counts on information about the countrys cultural wealth through the recreation of the diverse nationalities and cultures found in the different provinces of Ecuador according to its four natural regions.

Miniature Model of Colonial QuitoIt displays a scale model of Quitos Historical Center; this work required an extensive field investigation, aerial photography and specific houses images throughout 9 years. This is an exact reproduction of 140 blocks, on a scale of 1 to 200 cm.

PlanetarioSitio de visita ideal para los nios, las familias y los amantes de la Astronoma debido a su particular ubicacin en la latitud 000, considerando que desde este sitio son visibles muchas de las estrellas y cuerpos celestes que se pueden observar en el hemisferio norte as como en el hemisferio sur del planeta.

Artesana, Gastronoma & EventosAdems de todos los sitios de inters con los que cuenta la Ciudad Mitad del Mundo existen tambin restaurantes, cafeteras y una gran oferta de tiendas de artesanas con objetos de varios sitios y culturas del pas y una Plaza Central cubierta en la que tienen lugar varios espectculos, programaciones artsticas y eventos culturales.

Pabellones CulturalesAl costado sur de la Avenida de los Geodsicos, se levantan cuatro pabellones destinados a ilustrar la ciencia y la cultura.

Ecuador InsectariumIniciativa eco-naturalista que incorpora gran variedad de insectos del mundo e incluye una maravillosa y completa muestra de insectos vivos ecuatorianos.

Sabas Que? En la Mitad del Mundo, una persona puede

poner un pie en el Hemisferio Norte y otro en el Hemisferio Sur, al mismo tiempo. Es la fotografa ms comn que toman los Visitantes.

En la Mitad del Mundo se puede pasar de un Hemisferio a otro de un solo salto.

Puedes adquirir un certificado por haber llegado a la Mitad del Mundo y poner tus pies en los dos hemisferios.

La Misin Geodsica lleg a donde hoy es el Ecuador en 1.736, esto es 202 aos despus de la Fundacin Espaola de Quito.

Disminucin del peso de los cuerpos: Si te paras sobre una balanza en la Mitad del Mundo, pesars menos que en cualquier otro lugar de la Tierra (Ley de Newton).

En el Ecuador y en otra regin en Kenia son los nicos lugares en el Mundo donde se puede sentir un clima Fro en contraste del conocido Clima Clido Ecuatorial.

Las Fiestas del equinoccio se realizan el 21 de marzo y 23 de septiembre cada ao.

Debido a la Importancia de este sitio se est planificando una nueva Estructura de dimensiones astronmicas en conjunto con el reconocido Arq. Rafael Violy. Mire la Maqueta al interior del Monumento.

El Panecillo

Esta elevacin natural fue bautizada as por su parecido con un pequeo pan. Se erige en medio de la ciudad como un mirador natural. La colina de El Panecillo, con 3.000 m. de altitud sobre el nivel del mar, marca la divisin entre el sur y el centro de la ciudad. En 1976, el artista espaol Agustn de la Herrn Matorras realiz en aluminio el monumento a La Virgen que se encuentra en la cspide del cerro.

This natural hill was baptized due to its similarity with a small piece of bread (Panecillo). Located in the middle of the city this place stands as a natural viewpoint. The Panecillo hill, with 3,000 mts. (9,842 ft.) above the sea level, marks the division between the south and the old town. In 1976, the Spanish artist Agustn de la Herrn Matorras built in aluminum, the monument to the Virgin at the top of this hill.

San Juan

Parque Metropolitano

Con una extensin de 557 Ha, es el principal pulmn de la ciudad. Se encuentra ubicado a 2.890 metros sobre el nivel del mar. Los visitantes pueden disfrutar de la naturaleza y del aire puro. Aqu se pueden observar las ms de 10 especies de colibres y 70 de aves que habitan en el lugar. Adems, hay zonas BBQ. Es el sitio ideal para los amantes del ciclismo de montaa.

With an extension of 557 hectares this park - forest, is the main lung of the city. This park lies at an altitude of 2,890 m. (9,481 Ft.) above the sea level. The visitors can enjoy its nature and the fresh air. This park is inhabited by more than 10 species of hummingbirds and 70 species of birds. In addition it also counts on BBQ areas. This park is the ideal site for mountain bike lovers.

Parque La Carolina

Con 67 Ha de terreno, este es uno de los parques urbanos -en medio de la ciudad-, ms grandes de Quito y del pas. Posee una amplia infraestructura que incluye: canchas de ftbol, baloncesto, tenis, voleibol, trayecto atltico, circuito de bicicross, pista de patinaje, juegos infantiles, reas de ejercitacin, centro de exposiciones, un pequeo lago con botes, estacionamientos y ms.

With 67 hectares this park -in the middle of the city- is one of the largest urban parks of Quito and in the country. It features a wide variety of places and activities including: soccer fields, volleyball, basketball and tennis courts; jogging path, a BMX circuit, rollers and skating park, childs playground exercising areas, an exhibition center, a small artificial lake with pedal boats, parking and more.

Parque de Las Cuadras

Este parque, que es a la vez el vivero de la ciudad, ofrece amplios espacios destinados a la recreacin y el esparcimiento, tales como canchas deportivas, ciclovas, juegos infantiles, piletas, reas administrativas, bateras sanitarias, entre otros. Es uno de los parques ms grandes y bonitos del sur de la ciudad.

This park, also a plants breeding ground of the city, offers wide spaces for recreation and to relax, it has many facilities such as sport fields, cycling paths, childrens playground, administration offices and toilets among others. This is one of the largest and most beautiful parks in the south of the city.

Parque El Ejido

El Ejido marca la divisin entre el Quito antiguo y el Quito moderno, en l habitan alrededor de 1.470 especies de plantas nativas. Cada fin de semana se juegan partidos de Ecuavoley (Volleyball ecuatoriano) que atraen la atencin del pblico. En este parque se encuentran todos los fines de semana exposiciones de pintura, un mercado artesanal adems de presentaciones culturales y de entretenimiento.

El Ejido Park could be considered as the division line between the old and the modern Quito. Around 1,470 species of native plants inhabit its area. Every weekend the practice of Ecuavoley (Ecuadorian volleyball) attract the attention of the public. In this park you can also find every week end, painting exhibitions and an artisan market besides of cultural and entertainment presentations.

El Jardn Botnico

En este lugar se pueden apreciar y conocer una amplia variedad de orqudeas y otras especies de flora que habitan en las estribaciones de los Andes ecuatorianos. En las reas verdes que circundan al Orquideario se encuentra una representacin de los distintos escenarios ambientales de la cordillera.

Es el parque ms antiguo de la capital. Se encuentra en la parroquia San Blas y ocupa 6 Ha. Aqu est el primer Observatorio Astronmico de Quito. Teatro Sucre

Inaugurado en 1886; este teatro de estilo neoclsico fue el primer teatro emblemtico de Quito. Tiene capacidad para 804 personas y ha sido escenario no solo de las ms grandes obras teatrales y orquestales que han pasado por el pas, sino tambin de importantes acontecimientos de la ciudad. Su interior est decorado con obras de arte que datan en su mayora del siglo XIX.

Inaugurated in 1886; this theater of neoclassic style was the first emblematic theater of Quito. It has capacity for 804 people and has been the scenery not only for the greatest theater and orchestral works presented in the country, but also for important events of the city. Its interior is decorated with art works dating mostly from the 20th century.

Teatro Variedades E. Albn

Se inaugur en 1913 bajo el nombre de Teatro Variedades y funcion exclusivamente como sala de cine hasta 1994, cuando cerr sus puertas. 11 aos despus, la edificacin pas a manos del Municipio, el cual se encarg de su rehabilitacin, que al cabo de 20 meses permiti su reapertura con el nombre de uno de los actores ms representativos de la ciudad y con una capacidad para 250 personas.

It was inaugurated in 1913 under the name of Teatro Variedades and functioned exclusively as a cinema until 1994, when it closed its doors. 11 years later, this building passed on to the hands of the Municipality, institution that was in charge of its rehabilitation. After 20 months of works, this theater re-opened with the name of one of the most representative actors of the city and with a capacity for 250 seats.

El 3 de abril de 1957, Alberto Mena Caamao don al Municipio de Quito su valiosa coleccin de objetos de arte y documentos. Buena parte de la exposicin est apoyada por figuras de cera de personajes relevantes de la historia del pas.

Estadio Casa Blanca

Este estadio pertenece a LIGA, uno de los equipos ms populares del Ecuador. Tiene capacidad para 55.000 personas. Cuenta con cafeteras, capilla y muy pronto con un museo donde se exhibirn los trofeos obtenidos en campeonatos nacionales e internacionales, camisetas de jugadores emblemticos, una maqueta del estadio, piezas y fotografas histricas.

Pista La Carolina

Ubicada en el extremo suroriental del parque, en esta amplia y funcional pista se pueden desarrollar actividades tanto con patines, patineta como con bicicleta. Esta plataforma incluye desniveles y diferentes grados de dificultad, el ms alto de ellos incluye un tnel de 180. Aqu inician los circuitos de Ciclova y Trote que rodean el permetro del parque.

Todos los domingos en Quito, varias de las principales avenidas de la ciudad se cierran al trnsito vehicular y se habilitan para la circulacin exclusiva de bicicletas o similares. El Ciclopaseo va desde la Av. 10 de Agosto, cruza las avenidas y calles Amazonas, Guayaquil, Venezuela, Teniente Hugo Ortiz y otras hasta llegar a Quitumbe en el sur de la ciudad. Esta pista de patinaje en hielo se encuentra en el Centro Comercial Iaquito (CCI) en pleno centro comercial y financiero de la ciudad.
