An average grain of table salt is 100

micrometers across (100 µm)

What is particle pollution?

• Particle pollution is a complex mixture of extremely small particles and liquid droplets.

• Some of these particles – called fine particles – are just 2.5 micrometers in diameter. That’s 40 times smaller than the average grain of table salt!

• The size of particles is directly linked to their potential for causing health problems.

• Particle pollution also contributes to reduced visibility, or haze.

The particles in particle pollution are so small, you can’t see just

one of them ...

Page 13: Agnihotra Industry

Krishna Barad13

Many sources; occurs year-roundMany sources; occurs year-round

Particle pollution comes from a variety of sources, including: wind-blown dust (larger particles) combustion sources

cars and trucks industry power plants fires

Fine particles can be emitted directly into the air, or they can form from gases that react in the atmosphere.

Particle pollution can occur year-round -- and may be worse in the fall and winter, depending on where you live.

Page 14: Agnihotra Industry

Krishna Barad14

Particle pollution affects your lungsParticle pollution affects your lungsYou are exposed to particle pollution simply by breathing polluted air.

Exposure increases when you exercise, because you breathe more vigorously and deeply than usual.

People exposed to particles may experience a number of respiratory symptoms, including:

• airway irritation;

• cough;

• phlegm;

• decreased lung function;

• airway inflammation;

• asthma attacks; and

• chronic bronchitis

Particle pollution can penetrate into the part of your lungs known as the alveoli, which deliver oxygen to the bloodstream.

Page 15: Agnihotra Industry

Krishna Barad15

And particle pollution affects your heartAnd particle pollution affects your heart

Particle pollution has been linked to changes that indicate your heart isn’t as healthy as it should be. Those include:

• Arrhythmias and changes in heart rate.

• Changes in the variability of your heart rate. Your heart rate should increase, for example, when you run and return to normal when you sit quietly. Decreased variability is a risk factor for heart attacks.

• Blood component changes that signal inflammation, and increased likelihood of potential blood clots, which can lead to heart attacks.

Some studies have shown that particle exposure causes heart attacks. And particles are linked with death from heart disease.

Particle exposure has been linked to heart attacks.

Page 16: Agnihotra Industry

Krishna Barad16

Some groups are at greater riskSome groups are at greater risk

People with heart or lung diseases are more vulnerable to particle pollution

because of their conditions (such as congestive heart disease, coronary artery disease, asthma, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.)

Older adults also are considered at risk, because they are more likely to have

heart and lung disease. (The risk of heart attack increases for men 45 and older and women 55 and older.)

Children are at risk (primarily from chronic exposure), because they are more likely

to be active, they breathe more air per pound of body weight than adults, and their bodies are still developing.

Page 17: Agnihotra Industry

Krishna Barad17

It’s a serious public health concernIt’s a serious public health concern

• When particles aggravate heart and lung diseases, that, in turn, means increases in:

Hospital admissions Doctor and emergency room visits Medication use; and Absences from work or school.

• Particle pollution is linked to significant public health risks – including premature death from heart and lung disease.

Page 18: Agnihotra Industry

And it damages the viewAnd it damages the view

• High concentrations of fine particles are a major component of haze.

• Haze dramatically reduces visibility. In the West, a normal “visual range” is about 140 miles when it’s clear. Because of haze, the current range is 33 to 90 miles.

• In the East, a normal range is 90 miles (it’s shorter in the East because of higher humidity). Haze has cut that range to 14 to 24 miles – and in the summer, often less than 10!

The pictures above show the difference between clear and hazy days in Chicago in the summer of 2000. Both photos were taken from the same location.

Origin

Has its origin in the Veda The word Veda comes from the

Sanskrit root ' VID' which means 'to know'.

Veda means 'pure knowledge'. This knowledge is given at the

time of creation for the entire humanity. Hence it is universal.

It is the invaluable treasure of all irrespective of caste, creed, religion, sect, colour, creed or country.

Page 24: Agnihotra Industry

Krishna Barad24

Why AGNIHOTRA is need of hour ?

It is for purification and healing of the atmosphere.

The atmosphere in which we live today is polluted in all respects.

Many complex problems which the world witnesses today have their origin in pollution.

Page 34: Agnihotra Industry

1. Begin by breaking up some pieces of dried cow-dung.

Page 35: Agnihotra Industry

Krishna Barad35

2. Place one small, approximately square, flat piece of dung in the bottom of the pyramid.

Page 36: Agnihotra Industry

3. Arrange other pieces to allow a good flow of air through the pyramid.

Page 37: Agnihotra Industry

Krishna Barad374. Continue building on opposite corners of the pyramid.

Page 38: Agnihotra Industry

5. Continue building in an alternate fashion, log cabin style.

Page 39: Agnihotra Industry

Krishna Barad39

6. When you have completed building there should be a small hole in the middle of the stack. Add a few drops of ghee to the completed stack. Only cow's ghee should be used for Agnihotra.

Page 40: Agnihotra Industry

7. A few minutes before sunrise/sunset apply a little ghee to one piece of dung.

Page 41: Agnihotra Industry

Krishna Barad418. Light this piece of dung. Lighter fluid, kerosene, or other ignitable materials should

never be used for lighting the Agnihotra fire.

Page 42: Agnihotra Industry

Krishna Barad429. Insert this lit piece in the hole in the centre of the stack.

Page 43: Agnihotra Industry

Krishna Barad43

10. Slowly the whole stack catches alight. You may use a hand- fan if necessary but you should never blow on the fire.

Page 44: Agnihotra Industry

Krishna Barad44

11. Prepare two portions of unpolished rice. The quantity of rice that you can hold in the tips of your fingers constitutes one portion.

Page 45: Agnihotra Industry

Krishna Barad4512. Separate the broken grains of rice and discard.

Page 46: Agnihotra Industry

Krishna Barad46

13. Add a few drops of ghee and mix with the rice.

Page 47: Agnihotra Industry

Krishna Barad4714. Divide the rice and ghee mixture into two portions.

Page 48: Agnihotra Industry

Krishna Barad48

15. Exactly at sunrise or sunset the fire should be fully ablaze. Take the first portion of rice/ ghee mixture between 2nd and 3rd fingers and thumb of right hand only with index finger and pinkie outstretched.

Page 49: Agnihotra Industry

Krishna Barad49

16. At the exact second of sunrise or sunset (according to computer-generated timetable, available free upon request for your exact location) reach your hand out from the heart towards the flame and utter the first Mantra. Drop the first portion of rice/ghee on to the fire on word "swaha."

Page 50: Agnihotra Industry

Krishna Barad50

17. Then take the second portion of rice/ghee in the same manner and drop it on to the fire while uttering the second Mantra. The mantras are uttered once only at each Agnihotra.

Page 51: Agnihotra Industry

Krishna Barad51

18. Try to sit near the fire for as many minutes as possible after each Agnihotra to experience the peace that comes as a result of its practice. The effects of sunrise Agnihotra last until sunset, and from sunset until sunrise. This completes the Agnihotra procedure.

Neuro Physiological Parameters Thousands of people all over the world are

performing Agnihotra and are immensely benefited in various fields of life. At the defense institute of physiology and allied sciences (DIPAS) New Delhi, Dr. Selvamurthy (Sr. Scientist) studied the physiological effects of Agnihotra on the human mind and body. It was observed that during the performance of Agnihotra, the heart rate showed a declining trend, body temperature was raised, GSR remained significantly higher, ECG showed DC shift in base, EEG showed constant changes, power in Alpha band increased, while there was a tendency of suppression in delta power. t has been concluded that Agnihotra atmosphere has distinct beneficial effects on mind and body leading to mental tranquility.

Alcohol & Drug De-addiction

Practice of Agnihotra has been found useful in drug and alcohol de-addiction programs conducted by Lt. Col. G.R. Golecha, (Sr. Advisor) Dept. of Psychiatry, Indian Army. It gives positive strength to the mind and enhances motivation to quit the addiction.

Bacteriostatic effect

BACTERIOSTATIC EFFECT: In a series of experiments conducted by a group of microbiologists & pathologists under the guidance of Dr A.G. Mondkar and Shri.Y.B. Sohoni the behaviour of microflora was studied in the atmosphere generated by Agnihotra. It was observed that the Agnihotra atmosphere was markedly bacteriostatic. In it more than 96% growth of bacteria was inhibited. Agnihotra atmosphere acted as a shield in which bacteria, especially the pathogenic types were not allowed to grow. In another set of trials conducted in the polluted slums, similar results were noted. It was observed that there is definite reduction in aerial micro flora after performing Agnihotra.

Ecological Farming

Agnihotra ash and its resultant atmosphere is being employed as useful in Ecological-Farming practices. Hundreds of farmers are regularly practicing Agnihotra farming methods. The fruits, vegetables and grains grown by this method are qualitatively better in texture, taste and size as compared to controlled farms where regular use of pesticides and fertilizers is done. Agnihotra atmosphere induces rapid seed germination. Agnihotra ash is an effective fertilizer and helps in releasing soluble phosphate from the soil.

Question 1

Who can perform Agnihotra?

The practice of Agnihotra is simple, easily adoptable and universal. It may be performed by any one irrespective of barriers like religion, sect, cast, creed, nationality, colour, sex and age. Women & children can also practice it .

Page 61: Agnihotra Industry

Krishna Barad61

Question 2

Can Agnihotra be performed at home?

Agnihotra can be performed in any room or place in any house. It can also be performed in the balcony of the house. While performing Agnihotra in a family at one place, only one person should make the offerings. Other members of the family present , too can derive the resultant beneficial effects of the purified and nutritious atmosphere. If two persons from the same family are desirous of performing Agnihotra individually, they should prepare fire in separate Agnihotra pots and make offerings. Agnihotra can also be performed in a farm or a garden adjoining your house.

Page 62: Agnihotra Industry

Krishna Barad62

Question 3

If I start Agnihotra in my house can my other family members perform it ?

Yes, If due to any reason one is not in a position to perform/attend Agnihotra himself on some occasions, any other family member can perform it. Agnihotra can be taken up as a personal discipline or as a family discipline. Even if it is taken up as a personal discipline and if one is unable to perform on a particular occasion any other family member or friend can do it and keep the healing cycle unbroken. When an Agnihotra is practiced in a place then every one including animals and plants, in its atmosphere is benefited.

Page 63: Agnihotra Industry

Krishna Barad63

Question 4

Should all members of the family offer the oblations to fire?

Agnihotra can be taken up as a family discipline where any one member of the family offers the oblations and the rest attend Agnihotra. The others can join in chanting the Agnihotra mantras but only one person should offer oblation to fire in one Agnihotra pot. If all or more than one members of the family wish to take it up as a personal discipline they can do so in the same house in different pots.

Page 64: Agnihotra Industry

Krishna Barad64

Question 5

Can the Agnihotra mantras be translated in to other languages?

Agnihotra mantras should not be translated. A mantra is a unique combination of sound vibrations and purport. Their utterance in esoteric combination produces unique healing sound waves which have wonderful effect on the atoms of the body, mind and atmosphere.. It has tremendous peaceful effect on the mind. This is revealed knowledge and the language used is Sanskrit. Translating the mantras in other language would change the frequency patterns & thus will not produce the vibrational effect of the mantra.

Page 65: Agnihotra Industry

Krishna Barad65

Question 6

Is Cow dung the only material that can be used to prepare Agnihotra fire?

Dried cakes made from the dung of Cow family can be used for preparing the Agnihotra Fire. It need not necessarily be of a cow. The dung of bull or a calf may as well be used to make dried cakes. However any material other than the dung of Cow family should not be used. Fresh cow dung as well as fumes produced by burning dry cow dung cakes have healing properties. It is capable of eradicating harmful bacteria. It is observed that cow-dung and the ash produced from its use in Agnihotra has power to control the dangerous effects of radiation.

Page 66: Agnihotra Industry

Krishna Barad66

Question 7

Which direction should I face while performing Agnihotra?

There is no hard and fast rule about which direction to face while performing Agnihotra. Because Agnihotra is related to Sunrise and Sunset, you may, if you are in a position to determine the direction, face east for performing the sunrise Agnihotra and west for sunset Agnihotra. However please be informed that there is no such rule in the basic disciplines of Agnihotra.

Page 67: Agnihotra Industry

Krishna Barad67

Question 8

What happens when Agnihotra performance is discontinued due to traveling or other reasons?

If the cycle of daily morning-evening Agnihotra performance is by any chance discontinued on an occasion or two do not worry about it. Resume the practice immediately from the next Agnihotra time and continue it. If the person regularly performing the Agnihotra in the home has to go out of station for work or if he is not able to be present in the house at that Agnihotra time, any other member of the family can perform Agnihotra. If the entire family has to go out then a friend or a neighbor can be requested to perform Agnihotra in your house. This helps in keeping the 'healing cycle' of Agnihotra unaffected. The person going out can carry a spare Agnihotra kit with him so that he can perform Agnihotra wherever he is at the local sunrise/sunset time.

Page 68: Agnihotra Industry

Krishna Barad68

Question 9

Are there any tips on how to make the Agnihotra fire?

Fire should be fully ablaze in the pot before Agnihotra time. It consumes offerings forthwith. After the Agnihotra let the fire subside by itself. Do not try to extinguish it by any other method. Do not disturb it in any manner, nor put any other material in it. While lighting the fire a few drops of cow's ghee can be put over the cakes or cow's ghee can be applied on the dry cow dung pieces before lighting them. Dry twigs of 'Vata' (Banayan tree), Audumbara, Palaash, Peepal and Bel can be used .These contain medicinal properties. To start the Fire one may use Gugul, Cotton-Wicks soaked in ghee or Camphor tablets. Arrange the pieces of cowdung in a log cabin fashion .This will allow the air to pass freely Keep the Agnihotra place clean and tidy.

Page 69: Agnihotra Industry

Krishna Barad69

Question 10

What do you do with the pot and ash after Agnihotra?

Remove the Agnihotra ash from the pot and store it in a bag or box. This ash can be used as an effective fertilizer for your kitchen garden and agriculture. Furthermore this ash can also be used as a healing substance. Do not throw this ash in a dustbin .Dropping the Agnihotra ash in wells, rivers and water-reservoirs is extremely beneficial.

Page 70: Agnihotra Industry

Krishna Barad70

Question 11

What do you do before and after an Agnihotra performance?

One may take a bath before the Agnihotra time. If a bath in the evening is not possible, take a wash before the Agnihotra time. After making the Agnihotra offering sit peacefully for a few minutes. After performing Agnihotra you can engage yourself, if that is your regular practice, in other spiritual pursuits like Meditation or Self-study etc.The Agnihotra atmosphere will be an aid in your efforts.
