Nuno Mathias is the Consul General of Portugal in San Francisco since June 5th, 2012. He holds a law degree and a Post Graduation in European Studies. He joined the diplomatic service in 1993 and was posted at the Portuguese Embassy in Washington, DC (1998 to 2003) and later in Maputo (Mozambique) from 2004 to 2008. He was Director for European Institutional Affairs and Bilateral Relations at the Directorate General for European Affairs from 2009 to 2012.

The Consulate General of Portugal in San Francisco covers 13 states: California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Idaho, Utah, Arizona, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, Alaska and Hawaii. It serves the Portuguese and Portuguese-American communities numbering around 500,000. It comprises an Economic and Commercial Section (AICEP’s Office) focusing on attracting investment to Portugal in 4 industries from Southern California: Aeronautical & Space; Auto & Components; Chemical & Petrochemical; and Textiles & Garments – and 4 other major Northern California sectors: Agriculture & Food; Clean Tech; Life Sciences; and of course Information Technology.

Sean Randolph is Senior Director of the Bay Area Council Economic Institute, where he served as President & CEO from 1998-2015. Dr. Randolph previously served as director of international trade for the State of California and was Managing Director of the RSR Pacific Group. Before that, he served as International Director General of the Pacific Basin Economic Council. His professional career also includes extensive experience in the Department of State and the U.S. Government, including Deputy Assistant Secretary of Energy for International Affairs.

The Bay Area Council Economic Institute is a partnership of business with labor, government, higher education and community leaders that works to support the economic vitality and competitiveness of California and the Bay Area. It produces authoritative analyses on key economic issues in the region and the state, and mobilizes leaders from diverse backgrounds around targeted policy initiatives.

Miguel Frasquilho is the Chairman & CEO of the Portuguese Trade and Investment Agency (AICEP). He has previously served as Vice-Minister of Finance and Treasury of Portugal. Several terms a Member of the Portuguese Parliament, he held several leadership roles, such as Chair of the Public Works, Transportation and Communications Committee – the legislative committee for ICT. In the private sector, he worked in investment banking and finance.

aicep Portugal Global is the Portuguese Government Agency responsible for promoting inbound and outbound FDI & Trade, awarding and managing incentives and grants to both; as well as proposing legislation and measures for a business and investment friendly framework, addressing matters of regulation, context costs and market access.

Stephan Morais is an Executive Board Member at Caixa Capital, where he leads Venture Capital, and co-leads Private Equity and Fund of Funds investments. He has a diversified background as investment banker, consultant, entrepreneur and CEO and is non-Executive Director and Advisor to numerous innovative companies and member of Investment Committees of several VC and PE funds. He also heads international partnerships with other investors and institutional investment partners.

Caixa Capital is a pioneering operator in the Portuguese market, with about 500 million euros under management and a total potential capital of 700 million euros for its managed funds. Nuno Sebastiao is co-founder and CEO of Feedzai, a machine learning platform for fighting fraud. Previously, Nuno led the development of the European Space Agency Satellite Simulation Infrastructure, contributing to the history-making Rosetta comet chaser space probe. Today, Nuno and his top team of data scientist and aerospace engineers at Feedzai are keeping commerce safe for the mightiest financial services companies and retailers on earth.

Gadi Shamia is the COO of Talkdesk. Prior to Talkdesk, Gadi founded a company that was acquired by SAP and now generates $500M in global business, was a Senior VP at SAP and a General Manager at ReachLocal (RLOC). He has a passion for creating B2B products, scaling teams through rapid growth and defining processes that help to streamline operations.

Ricardo Oliveira is the co-founder and CTO of ThousandEyes. Ricardo is also the creator of Cyclops, a platform to detect attacks to the Internet routing infrastructure, like the one that brought youtube.com down in Pakistan in 2008. Ricardo is a technologist at heart and a believer in the importance of simplicity and good design in any product.

ThousandEyes is a network intelligence platform that provides immediate insights across all the networks and connected devices organizations rely on. It arms network engineers, operations teams, support/service desk staff, developers, and even business users with an accurate, up-to-the-moment understanding of what’s happening in the network – both inside and outside the organization.

Sofia Pessanha is a growth expert with startups in her DNA. She is co-founder and CMO of Unbabel, responsible for all outgoing marketing, communications and sales. She built her marketing expertise with global mobile content company TIMWE. During this time she developed her love of technology and entrepreneurship leading her to co-found Beta-i, a Lisbon based entrepreneurship program incorporating international accelerator The Lisbon Challenge.

Unbabel is a Y Combinator-backed company combining artificial intelligence with professional translators and bilinguals in order to deliver translation services with a human tone and nuance to businesses. As companies target international markets, speaking their customer's language is a key component of success. Unbabel works with companies including eventbrite, trello, skyscanner and many others to enable their communication in multiple languages.

Pedro Santos Vieira is an engineer turned manager, with deep experience in the tech world. His first venture – GoodGuide – was backed by NEA and DFJ and helps companies sell, and consumers buy, safer and healthier products. He also has been building some experience on the other side of the table, as an angel investor and by scouting and assessing investment opportunities for institutional VCs. More recently Pedro led the creation of West to West.
