Textile Industry occupies a key position in the economy of Karnataka in terms of its

contribution to industrial production, employment and exports. Karnataka

accounts for 20% of garment production and 8% of garment exports of the Country.

It is estimated that the current garment exports of the State are valued at Rs. 4000 crores

accounting for 15% of Karnataka's total exports. Also, Karnataka produces 6% of cotton and

an impressive 65% of raw silk of the country.

v rd thGovernment of Karnataka is organising the Global Investors Meet on 3 and 4 June 2010 to

attract investment in different sectors of the State. As part of GIM, FICCI & Government of

Karnataka are jointly organising Session on "Potential for Textiles, Apparels & Technical thTextiles in Karnataka" on 4 June 2010 at 3.00 p.m.

Karnataka offers immense potential for growth of Textile Sector. During the period 2004-

05 to 2007-08, number of units in Karnataka's Textile sector has more than tripled from

122 in 2004-05 to 380 in 2007-08.

Government of Karnataka has announced a policy namely "Suvarna Vastra Neethi-

2008-13" for strengthening and developing a dynamic and growth-oriented textiles

sector and enhance its contribution to overall industry and economic development of

Karnataka.

The policy aims at sustainable development of all segments of textiles sector. The policy

also aims at removing impediments for exports, facilitating supply of skilled and trained

manpower to the industry and establishment of exclusive Apparel Parks at select

locations for the all round development of the sector.

Government of Karnataka has proposed the following new locations for setting up of

textile units :

Mysore Bellary

Hassan Chikkaballapura

Tumkur Hubli- Dharwad

Kolar Belgaum

Chitradruga Bagalkot

Mandya Shimoga

Infrastructural facilities which form the backbone of any industry like land, roads, water

and power etc have been made available to textiles and garment sector by Karnataka

Government.

454 acres of Textiles and Apparel Park in Doddaballapur

Proposed locations for Textiles and Apparel parks are Bellary, Davanagere, Ramanagaram, Belgaum, Gulbarga, Rabakavi - Banahatti, Bagalkot, Mysore

545 acres of land has already been allotted for garment manufacturing industry by State Level Single Window Clearance Committee/State High Level Clearance Committee

Various Private Industrial estates have been set up

Roads, Water, Power, Common Effluent Treatment Plants, Telecommunication etc. have been facilitated by Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB)

Quality Power supply

Incentives offered under the Textile Policy:

Credit linked capital subsidy

Entry tax reimbursement

Stamp duty reimbursement

Common infrastructure assistance for Greenfield Textile Parks

Power subsidy

Assistance for Common Effluent Treatment Plant and Hazardous waste disposal facility

Capacity building support

Assistance for Skill development
