Harnessing and ligning the Private Sector for Universal Health Coverage Lotus Suite 10, 22 nd  floor 26 January 2016 9 am to 530 pm Background: The Asian Development Bank (ADB), with i ts new Operational Plan for Health (OPH) for 2015-2020, is committed to support the efforts of Developing Member Countries (DMCs) to pursue universal health coverage (UHC)  that is to ensure the provision of health care services to all those who need it without undue financial hardship. There is also a clear recognition that attaining UHC sooner rather than later would require innovative approaches, and pulling the plug on ‘business-as-usual’ attitude. With its years of engagement with the private health and non-health sectors in supporting inclusive growth and reducing poverty in DMCs, ADB sees the private sector as a valuable technical and financial resource that can help fill the public financing, service delivery and management capacity gaps  all too familiar issues of UHC implementation. Harnessing and ligning the Private Sector for Universal Health Coverage

Lotus Suite 10, 22nd floor 26 January 2016

9 am to 530 pm

Background:The Asian Development Bank (ADB), with its new Operational Plan for Health (OPH) for 2015-2020, is committed to

support the efforts of Developing Member Countries (DMCs) to pursue universal health coverage (UHC) – that is toensure the provision of health care services to all those who need it without undue financial hardship. There is also a

clear recognition that attaining UHC sooner rather than later would require innovative approaches, and pulling the

plug on ‘business-as-usual’ attitude.

With its years of engagement with the private health and non-health sectors in supporting inclusive growth and

reducing poverty in DMCs, ADB sees the private sector as a valuable technical and financial resource that can help fill

the public financing, service delivery and management capacity gaps – all too familiar issues of UHC implementation.

ADB seeks to begin the dialogue on how best to harness the potential and align the interests of the private sector

towards UHC goals.

Objectives:

Demonstrate examples of initiatives that harnessed potential and aligned interests of private sector with UHC
