Action: Create an ad hoc committee to prepare a request for GENA action. GENA members at the January meeting will have an opportunity to vote on this committee’s recommendation. Myrick and West Roellig Park have open space for a multi use trail. Josh proposes a trail for mountain biking, hiking, walking, etc. Trail would be dirt, about 2.5 feet wide. Easier access than physically taxing to get to than ORA trails on top of bluff. Low impact that could be sodded over quickly and easily. Currently the trail Mark has marked is an informal fat bike course during winter months City doesn’t have an official stance on biking in the parks Maintenance would likely be done by volunteers, like the multi-use human powered trails Bluffside neighborhood should be included in any discussion around use of East Roellig Park Questions arose about WisCorps building new trails west of Myrick Center Attendees voiced desire to get broader neighborhood buy-in Trail is meant for beginner level, kid-friendly Isaac, J.P., Greg, Glen, Mark volunteered to work with Josh Miner to be on an ad hoc committee to put together a proposal for presentation at the January GENA meeting Committee Reports Executive Committee Approve and Welcome new GENA officers: Motion to split Secretary/Treasurer position into two separate positions (Pat), second (Jake). ● End of 2017 assessment and recommendations for 2018. ○ Nora summarized successes, events, projects for GENA in 2017 ○ Executive committee is looking for member feedback to help GENA run more smoothly.

Please fill out member feedback form (also posted online) ● Announce Land Use Plan Committee and report on beginning of process.

○ Committee will work with city planning on updated land use plan ○ Contact Nora if you would like to receive updates

● Discussion about approving to open a separate money market account for the Memorial Pool 

Fundraiser, as recommended by State Bank since over $5k will earn more interest. Motion to 

approve (Casey), second (Eric) Motion passed 

 

● Review the 2018 Budget draft. The Executive Committee will complete and approve by the end of 

2017. 

 

Communications ● Second semester UWL Intern… stay tuned

○ Intern will work on updating the GENA website, building templates, creating new logo

Environment ● Report on fall tree planting project

○ 35 new trees planted throughout the neighborhood

Membership and Events ● When would a "Spring into Your Neighborhood" event be best to host in GENA? Where? What would 

it look like? Update :Sara Sullivan Award will be given in the fall. 

○ Please share your ideas with the executive committee! 

 

Infrastructure ● Memorial Pool update:   

○ $1.49m in 2018 as well as $250k in 2017.   

○ Please attend the Dec. 7th Finance & Personnel Meeting public hearing on moving 

forward with architecture and engineering (A&E) phase. Additional value-engineering and 

facility characteristics refinement to meet a $4m-$4.5m budget will occur during the A&E 

process.

■ Email executive committee with feedback on these designs 

 

● Currently in the open/public comment about widening of La Crosse St. (to 4 lanes) and Losey (to 6 

lanes). Request from James Longhurst for a statement of response from GENA regarding DOT 

(State) plans to widen La Crosse Street: 

"Grandview Emerson Neighborhood Association opposes the widening of La Crosse St, 

HWY 16 & Losey Blvd and the unnecessary taking of property in our neighborhood as it 

will negatively impact property values and livability for our population."

● Suggestions for potential additions to statement:   

○ Decrease in safety for non-vehicular traffic that come with wider roads 

○ Easier ability to turn from 23rd or 24th onto La Crosse (with a traffic light) 

○ Long-term maintenance costs 

○ Working with neighborhood associations to increase public awareness of 

state’s plan 

 

Open Forum and Thanks: Open Forum

● Charlie Weeth is proposing to build a Little Free Pantry located outside Emerson ○ Charlie will be working with the school district about logistics ○ Looking for support from GENA
