Most organizations today have an array of emerging analytics aspirations, but few have built consensus around what it means to succeed with analytics. Through its ongoing research, IIA has documented examples of how healthcare organizations and leading enterprises across a variety of industries have set their analytics “North Star" to build impactful, data-driven programs. In this session, Jack Phillips will provide an overview of the state of healthcare analytics, give examples of high-performers inside and outside of the industry, and define opportunities for healthcare with analytics.

According to the Black Book™ report, the hospital revenue cycle outsourcing market is growing at 26% annually as an increasing number of hospital leaders are seeing outsourcing as a viable option to deal with challenges brought on by value based reimbursement and escalating costs. However, an equal number of providers are deciding to insource their revenue cycle back in-house after having previously outsourced. These providers can benefit from utilizing Lean methods to rapidly setup revenue cycle operations. This session will take a balanced, educational viewpoint from

both sides of the argument and focus on why the decision to outsource revenue cycle management functions is growing so rapidly, what to consider when outsourcing, and evaluating in-house or hybrid alternatives to outsourcing. This session will also feature Case Studies of health systems that have created Outsourced, Insourced, and Hybrid Models.

Value based reimbursement has accelerated the outsourcing market

Traditional metrics do not align incentives in outsourcing Viewing outsourcing as a vendor relationship can hurt

financial performance Investing in an in-house revenue cycle usually produces

Revenue and Integrity. Two words that mean many different things, but in healthcare like any business venture, Revenue is what keeps the business going and growing, and Integrity is the word that applies to how we want to generate revenue and keep it.

This session will field panelists from hospitals across New England to breakdown the correlation between revenue and integrity that will ensure compliance and fiscal stability. A special focus will be on how each panelist achieved this in their institutions, their initiatives and who within organizations should be involved to build a successful framework to achieve success and withstand the storm of internal and external audits.

You Will Learn:

Many providers and payers have a goal to have 20% to 50%+ of all payment arrangements under a risk-sharing payment methodology by or before 2020. Learn how these payment model changes impact the overall organizational revenue and operating models, decisions about Population Health investments as well as future period revenue and margin

risks. How you transition your organization’s revenue model to a risk sharing payment model while managing all associated financial, operational and competitive risks is the focus of this presentation.

To successfully navigate the multi-year payment transformation journey from volume-to-value, requires: A strategic financial roadmap which defines revenue

risks across managed care contracts and the type of risk sharing payment arrangements.

A strategic operating roadmap which defines the service provider organizations while also addressing organizational margin management.

Building a baseline payer financial model and assessing your market’s speed of transition to value-based payment

Organizational preparedness for risk sharing contracts, funds flow management and population health management

Key administrative, clinical and financial risks associated with risk sharing value-based payment models

Areas where 3rd party revenue disruption and service substitution risks are likely to occur

Healthcare providers are in varying stages of readiness for alternative payment methodologies. While there are many flavors of risk and opportunities to succeed, there are also pitfalls to avoid. This session will offer valuable insights from a provider and a bundled payment convener, and also from the perspective of the Massachusetts Executive Office of Health and Human Services. Each will share their advice about bringing together major stakeholders, preparing for and implementing the transition from fee for service and the key elements of a successful plan. Physician alignment, community alignment, data needs and other organizational competencies will be discussed during this panel session.

The strategies to educate and align physicians based upon drivers of success in the risk model

Methodologies that will align other community stakeholders to insure the most effective and high quality care across the continuum

Denials Management has traditionally been a back end approach mainly because that’s where they are identified. However, it’s the equivalent of closing the door after the revenue horse is out of the barn.

So how then is a business office going to make improvements? The actionable opportunities and the ROI are in focusing on the challenges of insurance eligibility verification, prior-authorizations, and medical necessity, where they originate in the front end departments.

This session will highlight how a dedicated Financial Clearance program can reduce denials using a collaborative approach with clinics to prevent them before they happen and ensure each and every patient is cleared prior to receiving services.

The value for change and critical success factors The return of tracking and reporting of denials back to

front end constituents The importance of a governance structure to support the

The 340B drug pricing program saves many health care covered entities, especially hospitals, billions of dollars a year in purchasing prescription drugs for outpatients. This program has been widely criticized for its lack of oversight, as well as the rapid growth of the program. The long-awaited proposed mega-guidance contains a number of significant changes in many of these criticized areas. The proposed changes could result in large revenue losses by providers, if the guidance is finalized as proposed. Covered entity compliance audits are also on the rise, and 340B hospitals should understand its risks in this area.

You Will Learn:
