What is Agenda 21?The document called “Agenda 21” was adopted in Rio

de Janeiro in 1992 at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development.

Agenda 21 proposes to promote a model of development compatible with environmental problems and the conditions of resources in terms of how quickly they will be used up and whether they can be reproduced or replaced.

In article 28 of the programme, all local authorities are invited to equip themselves with a Local Agenda 21.

Local Agenda 21 is essentially a strategic process to encourage and to keep a check on sustainable development. The preparation, management and realization of this process need all the skills and the instruments of a local authority and its community.

The environmental education is a framework of transversal activity on which the planning process of the school converges more and more.

The provincial administration of Ancona has considered important and essential interacting with scholastic istitution to develope some activities and to create some moments to involve the students, stimulating reflections on:

-environmental problems,

-perception of these problems,

-expectation about this theme from new generations.

Local Agenda 21 of the province of Ancona provides for thematic discussion forum in the schools of all the territory.

The experts organized some activities for the students, together with the teachers, divided into meetings for the sensibilization of the youth about the thematics of the Agenda 21.

At the end of each meeting the students realized collective or individual works about the topics discussed.

The appreciation of the initiative and the success among the students confirmed the validity of the process of Agenda 21.
