51st Symposium Purchasing and Logistics

Agenda 2030: Agile and Connected

The beginning of 2016 clearly showed that the economic outlook is becoming ever more unpredictable and that the risks are increasing. Contrary to expectations, the deceleration of growth in China, the geopolitical crisis in the Middle East and the financial plight of countries that export crude oil have all had an impact on the export-driven German industry. Therefore, it is no surprise that the product markets, and even more so the financial markets, show a dramatic increase of volatility.

The new normal is forcing our companies to keep their business activities closely in step with the markets. Thus agility and strong networks are essential success factors when it comes to working in an intelligent and target-oriented manner.

The future will be shaped by three main factors:

• More intensive networks among the partners in the value chain• Rapidly advancing digitalisation• Increasing global interdependences

The time has come to set up an “Agenda 2030” to correctly pave the course for the future.

Business models and value networks need to be intelligently redesigned.

In the digitalised economy, purchasing, logistics and supply chain management need to implement system solutions and provide the support needed. Advancing digitalisation also needs to be recognised as an enabler of strong networks. Companies need to tap the full potential in order to increase the quality and efficiency of their decision-making processes. Purchasing and supply chain management will play a key role in making the solutions work.

The 51st Symposium will pave the way for the development of your Agenda 2030 and will yet again serve as an important platform for an active best- practice sharing. Come and make the most of Europe‘s largest congress for purchasing, logistics and supply chain management. Grasp this opportunity to connect with your peers and discuss strate-gies for achieving more agility and stronger networks.

We look forward to seeing you at the event!

51st Symposium Purchasing and Logistics

Welcome by our keynote speakers

Dr. Klaus von Dohnanyi Former Federal Minister of Education and Research, Former First Mayor of Hamburg

German anxiety is a poor adviser to political debate in our country. In view of the argument about the correct refugee policy, increasing social inequality and the dangerous growth in populist trends throughout Europe, we need more than ever a fearless but civilised debate throughout Europe on the various routes to further development. We must stand up for what we believe in. I am delighted to make use of the 51st BME (The Association for Supply Chain Management, Procurement and Logistics) symposium to campaign for managers in the industry to stand up more for their beliefs because there are often good reasons for widening public political debate more boldly, including on key domestic and foreign policy issues.

Tobias Schrödel IT Security expert

No-one can protect themselves 100% against cyber-attacks if they operate in the digital world, whether personally or professionally. However, by taking simple steps, anyone can make it more difficult for hackers to steal data or destroy infrastructure. The most important thing is to remain vigilant, not to click on anything without being careful and to inform the right people if anything seems strange. Or, to put it briefly – think before you click! Particularly supply managers exchanging sensitive data with a lot of external and internal partners must bear this in mind. I look forward to giving the large number of attendees at the 51st BME-Symposium practical tips.

Alexander Graf Lambsdorff Vice-President of the European Parliament

Logistics, the supply chain and purchasing form the backbone of the global economy in our ever-shrinking world. Like the rest of us, they too are significantly affected by global political developments. The future of individual states can no longer be regarded in isolation, but must be recognised as a part of the international community, which is why I am happy to take the opportunity presented by the 51st BME-Symposium to discuss the effects of the US presidential election, particularly on Europe and the transatlantic relationship, and to campaign for the preservation of common values and interests.

Hans Lampert CFO and Member of the Board CLAAS KGaA mbH

Life is becoming harsher, with external and internal environments becoming increasingly unpredictable for businesses. Market opportunities and technical progress must be seized with alacrity. A robust corporate structure helps to protect against risk. I am delighted to be able to describe these developments, using the example of CLAAS, a medium-sized family business.

Dr. Bernd Martens Member of the Board of Management Procurement AUDI AG

The automotive sector is currently undergoing an epic upheaval, with megatrends including digitisation and electromobility. We want to be trendsetters and to launch innovations on the market quickly. Digitisation and electrification are presenting Audi with new challenges in procurement. We are obtaining systems which do not yet exist and, to some extent, are yet to be developed. We intend to be the first manufacturer to launch these systems on the market. At the 51st BME-Symposium, I am delighted to have the opportunity to introduce you how we use our procurement strategy to contribute to the future success of our company. I am looking forward to interesting dialogues!

Dr. Hans-Gert Pöttering Former President of the European Parliament Chairman of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation

Not for the first time, but more intensively than ever before, the European integration project is at a critical moment in its development. Almost everywhere in Europe, the ability of the European Union to act is being questioned. In view of the current challenges, it is more imperative than ever to campaign for the future of a united Europe. As a purchaser and supply chain manager, you contribute to shaping European and international relationships. You build bridges with our partners in Europe and throughout the world. So I have great pleasure in being able to present my thoughts on the current EU situation and our common future to you at the 51st purchasing and logistics symposium.

Dr. Klaus Richter Chief Procurement Officer Airbus Group & Airbus, Chairman of the Board of Management Airbus Germany Airbus Group SE

The continuing market growth in civil aviation, complexity of our products and increasing globalization of the supply chain are all major challenges for our supply chain management. But at the same time, new technologies and new concepts in digitalization and automation offer a big opportunity to make the collaboration with our suppliers more effective and efficient. The goal is to foster process integration across the entire value chain, from product development (“virtual product”), through manufacturing (“Factory of the Future”) to maintenance and new after-sales services. Airbus drives the development in association with its industrial and research partners, with the Centre of Applied Aeronautical Research (ZAL) in Hamburg playing an important role. I am looking forward to presenting our approach and discussing the experience at the 51st BME-Symposium.
