History of Agency.. January 17 Hugh Cale presented to the North

Carolina General Assembly House Bill 383 asking for establishment of the State Colored Normal School at Elizabeth City.

From 23 students in 1891

to over 1,600 students in 2014

ECSU has provided coastal North Carolina with a student-centered environment of higher education that emphasizes accountability, diversity and excellence.

A: There are other agencies that provide counseling services

available to students in Elizabeth City , NC .

Q: How accessible is the Counseling & Testing Center ?

A; The Counseling & Testing Center is open 8:00A.M. - 5:00P.M., Monday

through Friday. During certain circumstances at the university hours

may be extended for services.

Erik Eriksson’s Stages of Psychosocial Development

Young Adulthood (ages 18 to 40 yrs). comfortable relationships and a sense of commitment,

safety, and care within a relationship develop.

The transition to adulthood in a college

setting could be difficult for many students.

Young adults are becoming more

independent, and begin to look at the future in

terms of career, relationships, families,

housing, etc. The individual wants to

Community Organization Theory The social work student emphasized active

participation from the students at ECSU. The social work intern was able to develop multiple

outreach methods to evaluate and education students about current social problems.

The social work student was able to identify common problems then implement strategies to

service students in the campus community

The social work student was able to implement systems theory by focusing on specific aspects of college students everyday life.

The social work student attempted to enhance small systems that impact college students by educating with outreach tables and healthy initiatives around campus.

Summary .. The Social work intern was able complete all of her goals listed within her learning contract. The social work student was able to successfully provide and implement services through the Counseling & Testing Center at Elizabeth City State University. Enhancing program development within the agency was a enjoyable learning experiences. The social work student is grateful for all of her experiences within the Counseling Center and guidance from the staff within the agency. Working and educating my campus community through the Counseling Center has given me a preview of the great initiatives the university has to look forward to in the future. The social work student hopes her legacy of ideas and creativity will thrive once she graduates from the Social Work program from Elizabeth City State University.
